  • It's time to take a deep dive into Ducati's first single-cylinder engine since the uber-exclusive Single in the Supermono of the early 1990s. The Superquadro Mono makes its debut inside the Hypermotard 698 Mono, and while on paper it's just half of the 1299 Panigale engine, there has to be more to it than that. We wanted to know more about it, so we spoke to Luca Bandiera, Ducati's Engine Project Manager, who gave us the full rundown of the engine.

    They're no stranger to thumpers, their SUPERMONO from the 1990s is legend, I had the thrill of racing against one in a practice race at Louidon International Speedway when the AMA just let everything out on the track for 8 laps. The 600s were going under us (I was 750 supersport) in the corners but the SUPERMONO was going under them! It was some dentist from NYC, this thing was a $35k thumper race bike!

    That’s a hell of an engine. Amazingly light in weight too. Would like to see it in a Super Sport style and also a more Street, or Roadster guise. Heck, a dual sport too.
    Troy is about the best presenter in the game. Easy going and asks the right questions. Thumbs up!

    As someone who bought a new Ducati engine (the 1200 DVT) in it's second year and watched it blow up at 29k miles, I don't trust Ducati anymore. These are disposable toys for people so rich they won't notice. If you have to work for a living, buy a bike with an engine made by someone who takes reliability seriously.

      So sad its true. Japanese bike is still king in reliability...

      As stupid as it sounds, I gave up on Ducati after their customer service told everyone a decade ago that their electrical problems on their Hypermotards could fuck off. Snowcat wasn't the first. He was just the most vocal on UA-cam about it. Then after that, just issue after issue after issue.

      Told myself after my Ducati experience in 2014 that I wouldn’t ever buy another one

    The thing makes 75 hp, which makes it a middleweight engine … it wouldn’t surprise me if they put it into their multistrada, supersport or panigale (one of those 2 not both), monster and desertx. Being part of the VAG group you are not going to develop such an engine and only use it for the hypermotard platform … and seeing the engineer’s reaction there’s more to come …

    Sooo for all that tech, the lowly 2009 AIR-COOLED Ducati Monster 696 puts out 80 hp, 50 lb or torque and weighs 22lbs more. Sure it has 2 cylinders but its an interesting comparison considering it was such a budget bike for the day.

    Ok great!!! Now, all WE need to do is BEG AuDi to make a single crankcase that will JOIN x4 of these “singles” to make a 2,800cc V4. Yep 4x 698cc pistons on 1 crankshaft. Thank you very much.😊

    Can we all agree that Ducati has created a comparable engine to the KTM 690,. which has been out for YEARS. I think the more impressive piece of this bike is the rider aids which allow you to wheelie and slide with confidence. The engine is not better than the KTM 690/Husk 701/Gasgas700 which has been out for a long time.

      if it in deed has less vibrations that that's a big plus for me. is it 2024 super impressive? ofc not, but also the whole bike looks sick and a lot of pepole, like me, buy with their eyes

    So 1299 engine cut in half is all marketing stunt since nothing is like that engine. Cool

      He said "the same piston, same combustion chamber, the same desmodromic system, intake and titanium valves" at 1:42. That is a lot. What were you expecting?

    • @donkeizluv
      @donkeizluv Місяць тому

      @@jfess1911 same as in measurements and materials. I highly doubt measurements are the same. Just a marketing stunt to avoid the "pass the first gen engine" taboo
