I interpret the piano as the 'Music' where they become part of it. Whether it's below ( Hwasa @ 1:52 ) or lying on it ( Hwasa @ 1:12 ) above ( Moonbyul @ 2:50 ), it shows that they are part of the music as the music it self that gives the colors to each of them; to their journey in music.
This song does not talk about love in personal relationships, i think it's about mamamoo and their passion for music and interaction with their fans, moomoo :)

Doing a song like this shows diversity in their singing ability. Its shows they can branch out from their typical style of music. I definitely liked this but I'm more of a fan of their jazz inspired tracks.

Same. Mr Ememoh, Ahh Oop, and You're the Best are what got me into Mamamoo so I definitely miss those kinda songs but this wasn't disappointing
Also to shut down haters that says moonbyul cant sing. She indeed CAN sing, just that in mamamoo, the other 3 girls are just a bit power vocal than her. I hope she can sings more in future. Be more confident in yourself byulie. :)

I've been waiting for a MAMAMOO ballad for so long and I was not disappointed. The distinctiveness and strength in their vocals.. and Moonbyul having a decentish part in contributing to the singing has made this my most favourite MAMAMOO song to date. The fact that it was kept clean by not using a lot of instruments and the tones were kept on the low side to not counteract with the main highlight that being their vocals, made this song for me.
Have you heard Mamamoo's Melting and Memory albums? They have ballads too

Fyi, In her early trainee day, she supposed to be a vocalist but she become the rapper because well, there's Solar, Wheein and Hwasa

well, you should certainly check out their "melting" album cause they're reeeeaally a lot more than what you can see on the titles. they're super funky and playful but so professional at the same time. def one of my all time favourite albums!

You really do have to listen to the lyrics...it makes the video even deeper. Also the piano...it's kind of a love song about all the different emotions loving someone can bring out. Or something...Some people think the piano means the love is for music.
on weekly idol they explained how they will promote for the year. supposedly they will release a mini or so each season with one member at the front. the new release yellow flower is representing hwasa (and she wore yellow in paint me) and Hwasa got a solo song on the mini. i am excited for how the rest will be.
This isn't an official comeback song; it's a "precomeback" song, hence why it's a ballad. RBW does this with Mamamoo like with AZE GAG and New York to prehype the fans for the actual comeback :D. It will probably be on the coming mini-album/album as a B-Side track.

Your review was really spot on! The progression of colors and the night storm in the end actually echoes really well with the song lyrics, which talk about how someone entering their life and painting colors in their life until there's so much color that it actually turns black, leaving behind memories as vast as the night sky to be cherished (along these lines)
You should definitely listen to Mamamoo's side tracks - especially their full length album Melting

I love how I can relate your explication of the set... (black and white and then more and more colorful / + It opens with white and only one girl and it ends with black and the four girls) ... to the lyrics : A woman in love, first as white as a canvas, then yellow as spring (first days of love) then red and passionate, then blue with the first sad moments than black as strong coffee, with multiple colors..... I loved while reading a translation of the lyrics the fact the man loved by this painted woman is the painter, this beautiful metaphore of love, and with what you said, I can add the total MV is in itself a metaphore of the lyrics.
This MV looks like pure, simple, maybe cheap too, but it has a high quality in vocals, in sense, in the video, the choices made......
This MV is perfection.
+ Moonbyul singing made me cry like a baby ^_^ and if I can say, they really did a great job with the choices of the parts, let me explain :
Moonbyul = deep voice = red = passion
Wheein = angelic high tones = white = purity
Hwasa = great vibrato, lots of emotion in her voice = spring = yellow = beggining of the relation
Solar = strong voice when talking about sad moments, but not described as something bad, the couple overcame those sad moment = blue = mix of sadness and strengh.
I LOVE THIS MV. It should be studied in art. This is art. Stan Mamamoo, stan talent.

I enjoyed your discussion about the scene changes, but I wish you would have talked more about their vocals as well. This was a very incredible vocal ballad, and the song itself was great.
I strongly recommend that any non-Korean-speaking person who enjoyed this M/V give it a listen with the subtitles on. The way the lyrics play against the M/V and the colors is breathtaking.
They have a lot of slower songs, angel, words don’t come easy, I miss you, they have such amazing vocals! And moonbyul’s solo track love and hate is awesome too!

TRCNG had a comeback and it's such a cool concept! It's called 'wolf baby' and they've also released a side track called "utopia" which they performed at their comeback showcase :) utopia is my favourite from trcng it's really nice to listen to!

That’s actually a good point that you mentioned none of them are playing the piano, I think it represents that none of them are artists in this song as it is called “Paint Me”, they’re arts.
U should check out the lyrics of the song then the music video would make so much sense- especially the part about why there is always a piano present.
I lost count of how many reactions I did. At this point, I am just watching reactions just to rewatch the music video without feeling pathetic.
I forgot about Pleasantville so I thought of Sin City. I agree about Moonbyul, but for possibly for a different reason. I think you may have been referring to it when you called her voice "smoother". I think there is enough lower range distribution in the song through Hwasa and even WheeIn in addition to Moonbyul. I find that Moonbyul 's counter-point "value" is in her more simple/straight-forward singing style in contrast to the often breathy, throat-y emotive affects performed by the others . Although the others sometime sing without them, I think there are too many of those affects and some of it seems "forced".
I've listened to almost all of Mamamoo's and their individual music and personally I like WheeIn's voice and vocal style the best. Solar is very talented as well but, to me Hwasa is the most talented vocalist in MMM due to her range, and her ability to sing many different types of both music and styles. I am not a ballad person, but I think "Paint Me" might become one of my MMM favs; mostly because it is different from what they have done in the past.
Moonbyul sang a part in one of their stages (for uhm oh ah yeah I think, not sure though). The singers did the rapping and the rappers did the singing for a part of the song (I don't think it was the complete song). Also Moonbyul had a solo song on the purple album called love and hate, where she both raps and sings. The song also got a performance mv uploaded about a month ago I think.

This is a pre-release that teased their 4 Seasons concept. Each member has a colour, season, and element associated to them.
Hwasa was wearing Yellow - and is actually the member of focus for Yellow Flower (Hwasa’s real name, Hyejin, means flower). The album represents spring.
The group’s upcoming album Red Moon represents Moonbyul, and the season of Summer. Moonbyul was wearing red in this music video too.
It is thought that Solar represents Fall, and the Sun. So it is theorized that her album is called Blue Sun. Why Blue? Solar was wearing blue.
Fans think that Wheein will be the last album - representing winter - and will most likely be called White Wind. Wheein was wearing white, the end.

I absolutely love paint me. I was so shook when moonbyul sang. I thought they weren’t showing her in the beginning since she would just be waiting for her part to rap but Nahhh they had me fooled. I think you really need to look at the lyrics. It helps to understand the MV. Every colour is symbolic
I love the reactions to this. You gotta check out the lyrics. It's all about colors bring added to your life through loving someone...and how when it's blank white and simple it can be fine but once you get those colors in your life you can't live without them. My favorite interpretation is that the love is actually for music, hence the piano in the video.
Hello, first video I've seen from you and I like your reaction! I find that a lot of people who make reaction videos don't usually talk about the video in depth, down to the cinematographic techniques etc. Just subscribed. :) Also, I'm a new Mamamoo fan, I just discovered them recently. This was one of the first songs I heard by them and I love their vocals.
I love this song so much and I highly suggest you rewatch with the lyrics on your own time because the lyrics correspond with the cinematography in the music video and the meaning is beautiful

for people who don't know and who were surprised about moonbyul singing, she IS a vocalist. She became an idol to be a vocalist but the music company she was at before literally dropped her and she was forced to become a rapper in mamamoo (i guess bc her vocals aren't as strong as the rest of the girls). So this is a big deal to her, she's struggled with not feeling like she's good enough and she's said before she's not that confident with her singing bc of that. So i hope we can all give her a lot of love bc this is a huge step for her!!

i will admit that i'm moonbyul biased, but i agree that her voice was very much needed in this track. the contrast she offers kind of evens out the power vocals and brings us back to reality after the emotional build-up in a way.
