As someone who has seen the adaptations and has read the books, I don't expect much from Hallmark adaptations and this was delightfully well done and quite accurate. - The mom, although less present in the book too, definetely could've been better written and acted. - I love how they left in the youngest daughter because some leave her out. - They kinda rushed the engagement of Marrianne and the Colonel because the couple didn't really spent time together between her ilness and him proposing, so that kinda misses the connection they make. - I like the main couple they chose good actors for them. - No use explicit romantic scenes, which is normal from Hallmark, and I prefer that, but nowadays they tend tot do that, so not doing it is a win in my book. I'd really advice you to watch the 1995 S&S with Emma thompson and Hugh grant, that is a really good one. As for setting, I did spot some modern furniture lol😅
I'm guessing that your audience for this critique is people who only watch modern Hallmark movies and have never watched period pieces. I suppose it was a completely unbiased review, but it seemed strange that the reviewer had not only not read the book but also hadn't seen any of the other adaptations, so the comments on the characters and the plot were sometimes odd. I think a better-informed knowledge of period pieces would help would-be watchers have a better understanding of what to expect in a period movie. I have not seen this adaptation which is a reimagining, but I have read the book and seen other adaptations. I'm interested in seeing this reimagining. The clips looked good. All of the Jane Austen adaptations have merits and demerits (except for the latest version of Persuasion, which was a travesty) and it's interesting to see the different interpretations. Of course, reading the book adds to a viewer's appreciation of the adaptations.
Again.. it's so cliche to have some white men pairing with coloured females. What's wrong with having some black dude or non white actors for those roles? Many are good actors...🙄

I appreciate your feedback and, you're right, I was speaking from the viewpoint of a modern Hallmark movie-watcher.
