Smart man. When I would go shopping with my ex I would have a map of the store in my head and as she was rattling off all the stuff she wanted to look at I was going full John Madden.
Bonus points to him if he not only knows where items are but carefully plans out the route to get to them so as to avoid any sections where you would become distracted and be all "OMG I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GLITTER GLUE!"
And sir if you are reading this over her shoulder and are not currently doing that, start doing that.

As a crafty person, I felt really really attacked! 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm not a native English speaker and I rarely understand any stand up (I understand the words but the stand up usually involves cultural differences that I just don't get it). But THIS one is the just the best! I laugh the whole way through it! Good job Jamie!

      My former fiance crafted.
I keep saving my Don Francisco coffee cans.
      I'll never use them myself.
I think part of me hates the idea of throwing away anything crafty she might have used to store stuff in.
It's been 7 years since she left.
I still save things I think she could use to craft or save crafty things in.
I was never the fiance with the carpentry shop in the garage, either.
But, anybody wants any of these, let me know.
Be happy to hook you up.

    • @toddvandell85
      @toddvandell85 5 років тому +4

      @Hanny Mary
      My former fiance crafted.
      All the time.
Well, she really started in earnest when we moved into this really nice, expensive, 2 story condo in Brea.
She was pretty good at it, too.
      Pretty crafty.
Not saying she crafted to avoid spending time with me for those two years but, after she moved out and ended things between us after 9 years, I seem to recall asking how the whole crafting thing was going these days.
      I'm inquisitive that way.😉
"Yeah, I'm not really doing that anymore."
      Oh, there's a big surprise. 😂
No, I didn't actually say it out loud.
      Was trying to stay friendly.
Or, as friendly as a break-up can get, after 9 years together, anyway.😒
But, even if she hadn't taken over the whole second floor landing between bedrooms for her craft room?
She had several other ways to avoid having any actual conversations with me.
She had 6 televisions in the condo.
And never, in the two years we lived there, did she ever watch the same show on the same TV with me.
We did watch her news programs.
Well, she did, while I cleaned the kitchen and got her coffee ready for her morning drive to work.
I saw the writing on the wall.
      Giant craft room.
5 other TVs available to watch, besides the one I watched in the kitchen/family room with our dogs.
I think at that point, the only thing I wasn't quite sure about was why she took 2 years to leave.
Or, why I didn't have the wherewithall and the presence of mind to just pack my stuff and leave before she left.
      Not that I'm bitter.
      I'm not.
But I sensed it was on her mind while we were out looking for a place to move into before we found that condo.
She kept finding places with 2 bedrooms, one for her, one for her daughter.
I always had had my own room, because I snore, and she was a light sleeper, so she was like "you get to have your own room."
      Until we were condo hunting.
      Wasn't 3 bedrooms anymore.
      Just 2.
And she'd point at what would be her bedroom's walk-in closet, and say: "this will be Todd's room."
Once, there was another, different, 2-story condo, with a closet under the stairs.
She said "Oh, this will be your room.
      Just like Harry Potter.
A bedroom in a closet under the stairs."
Not that she ever read Harry Potter, she hated reading, and especially hated fiction.
      She'd been a news producer.
She got her degree in that at college.
      I got mine in Writing.
Fiction made no sense to her.
      At all.
      Not interested.
But, her daughter reads fiction, I read fiction, her step mom reads fiction, and her mom, and her step dad, both read fiction.
And I'm an aspiring author who writes fiction.
So, her daughter had read Harry Potter, as had I.
      So, she was...aware.
      And, she'd seen the movies.
      Anyway.
So, even before we moved into that condo, I could already see she was figuring out ways to move me out of her life.
It was 7 years ago that she left.
      Still in recovery.
So, now, I also craft by...you guessed:
      Endlessly watching UA-cam.
      Small world.☺
Although at 58, I'm older than either of you ladies.
      Anyway.
(Sorry to bring my depressing break-up story in to rain on the parade.)

I'm 35 too but I'm just starting that now. After a life as a successful business woman I decided to have a child and pursue temporarily my dream of being a hippie for a couple of years. Crafting is part of that. But I have to confess that I like more the look of cutting wood with an overall and cute messy hair than actually doing anything. I rarely finish something (although I start a lot of projects). I should definitely had started at 25 so I would be over with, for sure I would be much more patient too.

I used to collect baby food glass jars. That's no small feat once your children are no longer eating Gerber or Beech-Nut pureed food. I'd clean and sterilize the jars and their lids and sack them up. Why? Because at Christmas time, I'd buy tiny little snowmen, elves, Santas, angels, plastic or "silk" holly or mistletoe, evergreen sprigs, and glitter. Armed with an unending supply of classroom tapwater, a hot glue gun, and the high temp glue, my students and I would create little snow globes to give their mother's for Christmas. That is, until the year my spouse tossed the bag of jars in the trash just before I was going to take them to school with me. I was NOT amused.

I use cardboard egg cartons to make fire starters. Just add some dryer lint, sawdust and liquid wax and you have something that can kickstart any fire. I'm responsible for building our charcoal grill fires so yes, I collect cardboard egg cartons.

Once I lost my cash card but didn't want my husband to know, so whenever I needed craft supplies, I had to rely on tricking him to go to Michael's with me so that he could buy my stuff until I was able to find my cash card again. On the way back from his favorite restaurant when we were a minute away from Michael's I'd say something like "OMG I totally forgot - I need some dye fixitive!" (Little did he know that I strategized this turn of events *days* in advance.) Then when we'd get there, I had to trick him into coming into the store with me. He'd prefer to wait in the car so I'd say "I'm afraid I'll buy too much. Can you come in with me to make sure I don't get a bunch of junk we don't need?" That would get him out of the car. He can speed walk to the exact spot wherever the random thing is that I said I needed was. Somehow he had the entire store mapped in his head better than I did - and I USED TO WORK THERE, FFS!

When we moved to our new town my husband loved it. When asked what he liked about it, he said; 'The women are prettier, the people are friendlier and you can take your dog out to eat with you.' (Lots of places with patio dining who welcome well behaved dogs).
So we moved in and began to discover our new area. And then it happened.
He saw the 'Bermuda Triangle of Crafting'.
Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn's. All located within 5 minutes of each other!

I grew up poor/middle class,we kept everything, not for crafting, but to use as containers. Like butter .We kept everything in butter containers,& my dad used jelly jars for nuts & bolt & the like. Crafting was low on the totem pole, though we did do it,containers came 1st.
