Hey SRI! Question, how is it possible that 1225 got away with 70 years without an overhaul and other locomotives need much more frequent overhauls. Is this work beyond the 1472 FRA inspection?
@@Wawa111_Mainline I understand that. What I mean is, is this restoration beyond the average 1472? I see a lot of running gear work. Is this the focus?
A 1472 only requires an inspection of the boiler and tube/flue replacement. Anything else is extra. They didn’t have the funds or capability to do running gear work like this a decade ago for that most recent 1472 overhaul. So, yes this is going beyond what that requires. This work was last done, per date stamps found in the running gear, at the Wyoming Shops in 1948.
No, they're talking about an oil distribution system for the main axle bearings. 1225's are friction-based, which is at a disadvantage to roller-bearing designs.
I wish more people would understand that sooner or later all steam will be oil burning. Coal is just going to become too expensive. I hope it is later, rather then sooner, but it is inevitable.
Yes, at some point the rising cost of coal will have to be reckoned with. The fire risks in the western US are already being reckoned with by the D&S and C&T. That’s not something that is a problem in the Midwest but what’s happening out west and in the UK should be a catalyst for many groups to start thinking about it.
I believe when he said they were converting to oil they were talking about a running gear component. But that said, as coal gets more expensive they may have to look into converting it to something else in the future. Some operators in the west (D&S and C&T) are already being forced to do so due to fire risks. That’s not an issue in the Midwest, so there is no immediate need, but it may still be something to do in the interest of controlling costs in the distant future. I anticipate that wouldn’t happen, if it ever does, for at least another decade or more.
@@Fietser1225 Shane was indeed talking about something other then the fuel source. He was talking about modifying the drive axle bearings in such a manner that they give a similar performance to roller bearings, the same way the 4449’s drive axle bearings’ have been modified.

Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Piccadilly Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 67 Octagon and Every 37 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 147MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 147MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units, can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 18 Tonnes for all of those 147MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! So please make sure that the Builders can do as they are told!!!!! And Please do something about these very very important Professional ideas Please? Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Australia, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.
I hope this famous seamer get back in service agin once this big repair is done
It’s back in service already
That’s awsome and great and thankful to hear@@ClinchfieldRailfan921
Man, I guess this will be out of commission for a while. no riding on it for Christmas.
It would be awesome if 1225 reunites again with 765 for a fourth time. Maybe bring 611 too!
Why does the thumbnail look so much like a model train lol!
Hey SRI! Question, how is it possible that 1225 got away with 70 years without an overhaul and other locomotives need much more frequent overhauls. Is this work beyond the 1472 FRA inspection?
1472 is based mostly off the boiler and the tubes
@@Wawa111_Mainline I understand that. What I mean is, is this restoration beyond the average 1472? I see a lot of running gear work. Is this the focus?
A 1472 only requires an inspection of the boiler and tube/flue replacement. Anything else is extra. They didn’t have the funds or capability to do running gear work like this a decade ago for that most recent 1472 overhaul. So, yes this is going beyond what that requires. This work was last done, per date stamps found in the running gear, at the Wyoming Shops in 1948.
@@Fietser1225 ah! thank you very much! that makes good sense. much appreciated.
The Polar Express
They should put sierra#3's whistle on her to seal the deal 😎
Oh my god yes
As if Sierra Railroad would part with that whistle...
Yes definitely yes
Maybe the SRI can acquire a Lima 5 Chime in the future 🤔

What? What do mean L&N 1992?
rebuild the polar express 1225
Will she be ready for the coming North Pole Express?
Nope
It’s the polar express locomotive
it's not going to burn coal anymore? it's not the polar express without coal 😢
No, they're talking about an oil distribution system for the main axle bearings. 1225's are friction-based, which is at a disadvantage to roller-bearing designs.
@@bakerboat4572 phew, that makes me feel alot better, thank you :)
Baker boat thanks for letting me now the the locomotive is never going to burn oil.
What happened? I was going to admit that 1225 was in service.
On October 7th, 2022, PM 1225 was pulled from service for unknown reasons.
Ohhh, I thought you were talking about jobs and an honest government,, but yeah the train is cool too
Love what there doing but keep it coal berning please
@@Fietser1225My special needs son recommends torrefied biomass instead of oil 🛢.
Polar express !
Actually, essentially, actually.

You like "basically".....
Another great smelling coal burner 🔥 turned into deep fryer
As far as I can tell they aren't converting the engine to oil, they were talking about the lubricant method for the running gear to help with wear
@@festivelad5079 You nearly had it. It’s not the valve gear getting a new lubrication system, it’s the driving axle bearings.
