Expanding on tip 2 (torches): Beast-repellent torch is my fav torch because it can be a life saver in MANY situations. FromSoft has a tendency of swarming you with wolves, rats and similar beasts and this let's you quite literally ignore many packs or take them one at a time, ESPECIALLY in sewer sections. Also, and this is a BIG plus many people don't know about: Basilisks (those frog-like creatures that make clouds of Death) ARE CONSIDERED BEASTS and therefore will never make any smoke if you are weilding the torch. Truly a life-saver on many sections. PSA: Damaging a beast WILL aggro them despite you weilding the torch, but it can de-aggro beasts you haven't hit yet if they are hitting you.
@@grogueQ It is!! If the basilisk is hard-coded to throw smoke when the character approaches it it will still smoke you ONCE, but it won't throw any more after that as long as you don't hit them.
Always crush the glowing skulls you find around the game as they offer a single golden rune 1 and honestly free runes are nice and sometimes you will find many glowing skulls in one area.
I'm not 100 here, but I feel like they drop/spawn in based on enemies killed. They were always things you found commonly"ish," but on one of my more recent playthroughs I made it a goal to kill literally everything perceivable in the area before moving on (like literally everything). And now I _feel_ like I'm getting an absolute boatload of these little skulls everywhere . . .
Rainbow stones are insanely easy to make. All they require is a single ruin fragment and the recipe comes with the crafting kit by default. I have never not had one when I needed one.
Expanding on tip 8 (stone/crystal enemies): There is one melee weapon type that both ignores the recoil stun AND is quite good at taking care of these enemies: The flail line of weapons. These weapons will never bounce off of stone-like enemies and will hit them pretty heavily all the time since they are also strike weapons, making them an amazing addition to your arsenal. These weapons are: Flail Nightrider Flail Chainlink flail Family Heads Bastard's Stars Personally I take Nightrider Flail in every single playthrough as it is found very early in the game, scales more than decently, its stat requirements are fairly low (10 Str 24 Dex) AND it can be infused, so its a great way of dealing with skelleton enemies too trhough Order's Blade incantation. All in all, great weapons to keep in mind for their great versatility.
I can 100% vouch for using your pouch for flasks - took me a while to get the muscle memory right after years of Dark Souls but it's a game changer. Thanks Dom!
To expand on Tips 8 (hard skinned enemies) and 9 (flying enemies) if you're using the Meteoric Ore Blade it will work against hard skinned enemies since it's made of meteorite and it's AoW is Gravitas, so good against birds and such as well. One tip I always throw out for newer players is to learn and use parrying by applying the Storm Wall AoW on a medium shield that has 100% physical damage resistance (like a Heater shield or the Brass Shield), it will have a ton of parry frames, still can be used to block/tank a lot of attacks, and you can even parry out of a block. Trivializes certain fights like the Crucible Knights.
I'd like to add to tip 8 too: in my experience, holy damage like those from Sacred Blade and Discus of Light absolutely _melts_ the miners, even morsoe than fire damage. I first thought it might be due to the fact that my main character has pretty high faith stats, but it seemed to be effective with my STR/INT build second character too, so I'm suspecting they are weak to holy damage, or at least have less damage absorption against holy.
Also, throwables scale on various stats. Fire pots scale on Str, Lightning on Dex, etc. Kukri are extremely OP if you are running either Str or Dex, you can get good bleed off even if you're not spec'ing into Arcane.
A couple of things I know but often forget: Rolling away from the enemy is often a bad idea, rolling through their attack to get to the side of them or their back can open then for an attack. Sometimes sprinting around an enemy is better than rolling. For example certain sphererical enemies AI struggles with that. Edit: Also I die way more to enemies than falling, I rarely die to falling at all. I guess I'm either just good at the jumping "puzzels" or either I REALY REALLY suck at this game lol
dodging sideway can be great as well if you got a long reach weapon with a good dodge attack that has some range like colossal swords can work beautifully. Plus don't forget about being able to crouch under high up attacks or jumping low attacks as well, jumping in particular is good at dodging shock wave abilities since it gives the lower half of body s.
Black Bow stun locks large Dogs as long as you have any little bit of height advantage. Literally makes Caelid a cakewalk. No cap. To get better at dodging delayed attacks: Run when attacked. You hold circle (or whatever button for you it is) if it's not delayed then you release and boom dodge. If it was released you now are able to put a new input for a dodge while also humbling yourself to not dodge early/spam. 🙂

So glad you were thinking about those who couldn’t buy Elden Ring on launch. I’ve been avoiding all videos except for weapon showcases but now that I’ve picked up Elden Ring I’m using literally all of ur guide videos xD
Idea suggestion/request… how do you not miss important NPCs for quest lines without looking up walk throughs that will potentially spoil thing. Like what are the things I’m looking for and listening for to know where to go next. A video on Elden ring quest advice would be good for a game that doesn’t hold your hand. Great video. You have the most enjoyable and educational vids! I’ve played 300 hours and never knew the “attack by a ledge to see if you’ll fall” trick. Thanks for that!
So the other day I was asked by a new player what tips could I offer: #1 Try to stay within a Medium or lower Equip Load. I think this is one of the most important things to tell new players because the rolling and stamina penalty are extremely noticeable at low levels. #2 Use the Pouch. Nothing more needs to be said, although I have a different set-up. I prefer to have my Spirit Ashes on the Pouch but I use them regularly. #3 Use a shield. One of the biggest problems I had was the really fast enemies like dogs and imps, ranged attacks were also a pain. The shield really helps with those encounters. I would recommend not having a Ash of War on the shield in the early game while learning because it could throw you off when you are used to throwing out a skill only to keep parrying. #4 Keep diverse weapons whenever possible. At least one Strike weapon when exploring Catacombs to deal with Imps or other stone enemies makes the trek a little easier. #5 Don't be afraid to upgrade weapons you like to use. I feel most weapons can be used through most of the game with decent success(on the first playthrough) and are there aren't any truly horrible weapons so upgrading them isn't really wasted. Also the fact you can buy most of the upgrade materials towards the mid/late game gives some relief that you don't regret upgrading things.
@@Endemoniada Parrying skills is another layer of combat but it's really confusing especially for new players. When you get experienced enough to switch weapons and power stance without issues than that is a good time to start learning to use the shield skills. That's cool friend, see you around! It's a game I've played on-and-off in my spare time for a few years, I've even streamed it on Twitch before, and I genuinely enjoy it. So when they reached out and offered me a chance to help me pay my bills this month and keep doing what I do whilst providing you endless amounts of free content, I thought it was a great deal! But if it's not for you, I get that.
