Thank you Dr Peter Kreeft, for your brilliant commencement address. If your students choose to take heed to your humorous words of wisdom, they will avoid many of life's pitfalls throughout their lives.
A man of truth Dr. Kreeft. Therefore not surprisingly, aligned to God- the creator of truth , light and knowledge. The more we attach ourselves to The Word of God the more we see the lies of this deceptive selfish world,-satan's kingdom. The Bible- handbook how to choose good over evil and get to our Heavenly Birthright. People like Dr Kreeft help keep us on the right path. Thank you good soul.
This is perhaps the most compact exhortation on truth presented in a very consumable and pleasant manner, that I have ever heard. One to be listened to multiple times.
1. You can be/become whatever you want to be/become 4:20 2. The most important person in the whole wide world is you 6:10 3. The world needs you 8:25 4. You need education in creative thinking (thinking that creates a new reality) 9:44 5. You need education in critical thinking (negative skepticism toward anything that claims to be truth) 10:52 6. We must be tolerant of everything except intolerance (all peace is good and all war is bad) 11:50 7. If you want peace, seek justice 13:27 8. Keeping an open mind is the supreme good 14:38 9. All you need is love sweet love 15:42 10. Freedom is the end rather than a means 16:29 "However successful the darkness may be--for however long a time, and however it may increase, and however many more times we continue to lose every battle in the culture war--yet the light is imperishable. All lies die. Truth alone remains." -Dr. Peter Kreeft
This man along with C.S. Lewis changed my life... If ever I have the good fortune of making it to heaven one day, it will be - in no small part - due to Peter Kreeft. Thanks for this speech. I needed to hear this at this time.
Very good words indeed. I'm a Protestant and always enjoy the wise thoughts of many a Catholic brother. I would add one more lie (it is perhaps implied in some of the 10 he mentioned): You are your own person. Paul reminds us in1 Cor. 6:19 that we are NOT our own. The lie that we belong only to ourselves is pervasive. Indeed I struggle with it! Anyway, be blessed all.
1. You can be whatever you want to be. 4:20 2. The most important person in the whole wide world is you. 6:10 3. The world needs you; you can save the world. 8:26 4. You need education in creative thinking. 9:46 5. You need education in critical thinking. 10:50 6. All peace is good. 11:51 7. Christianity can be reduced to peace and justice. 13:28 8. The exaltation of openness and welcoming and tolerance is the supreme good, the summum bonum. 14:39 9. All you need is love, sweet love. 15:44 10. The exaltation of freedom as an end rather than a means. 16:30 God did not put you in this world to be successful. He put you in this world to be faithful.
This is a useless statement. Why on EARTH would God put us here to be faithful? What would God get out of that? I think it is indeed very very valuable if people become faithful, but I cannot understand at all why God would put a bunch of "ay-sayers" there to disturb him all the time with their unfathomably primitive "give-me-this-and-that" prayers? It reminds me about a movie once with someone who became God for some time - and he had to quell all these many prayers people brought to him all the time.
Your conception of God seems to be a man on a cloud listening to prayers come through as we get notifications on our phone. No serious Christian thinks of God this way. God doesn't need us, we need him. God doesn't need our prayer, we need it. We do not pray to change God, we pray to change ourselves. @@davidsvarrer8942
Integrity is one of the most hated words, I believe. Hated without people even knowing what it is they despise so much. Integrity is on the other hand a description of a way of being which can bring such immense happiness to the world and to the person proscribing to it. Character can be born out of integrity, and someone with character truly has integrity. Commitment is only possible via integrity, and with integrity one builds long lasting relationships not only with humans but also with animals. I cannot tell for sure, but I believe that if you have faith with integrity, you are inviting heaven to be present on Earth. Tell me though, how come we are living in a world where our life is on condiiton of that we kill other life, daily. I am a vegetarian, and I still feel that I am killing plants to eat them. I don't like that part of life. I have no problems in being born and dying - that is kind of OK - but I cannot find a proper purpose of life which makes sense while I am still a mass murderer of plants?
Love, enjoy and learn so much from Dr. Kreeft. His books are wonderful; I've read them all and highly recommend them to everyone. He is gift to our world today. God bless you, Dr. Kreeft. You are always in my prayers.
I'm not an educated graduate, but Peter Kreeft held my full attention with this pithy presentation. I have always considered those ten points to be dangerous and now we are reaping what they have sown.
FANTASTIC!!!! Oh how I wish everyone in high school, college, graduating, teachers, professors, parents, EVERYONE!!! should here this entirely! Truth!!!
I like this we need more people who tell the truth like this we shouldn't compromise on our faith don't give into intolerance but stand up for faith and truth
He was my professor at Boston College. Any of his many books are well-worth the read. If you're not Catholic, warning - if you're a reasonable person and read his books, you will become Catholic.
Many times I've worried for the many I thought would be hurt by the 'You can be anything you want to' notion'. Was pleased to see it come up as number one here. Soldiered on despite waning warm responses. Many will come away having to deal with a thorn that signifies hard truth.
Tried my best to summarize the 10 lies as follows: Lie #1: "You can be anything you want to be." Lie #2: "You're the most important person in the universe." Lie #3: "The world needs you." Lie #4: "You, in your capacity for creative thinking, are the creator of truth, able to create a new reality." Lie #5: "You, with your power of critical thinking, may tear down anything that claims to be truth if it doesn't fit the truth you create." Lie #6: "All peace is good and all conflict or adversity is evil." Lie #7: "Peace can only be attained by demanding justice, not forgiveness, toward your adversaries-justice as you define it." Lie #8: "Tolerance is the supreme good." Lie #9: "All you need is love, certainly not truth or discernment." Lie #10: "Freedom is an end in itself: freedom from responsibility, freedom to do whatever you please."
Kreeft's emphasis on "essential nature" is great. His references to Apple and Microsoft are outstanding. I wonder what the students in his audience thought, since they have grown up in the era when computers & smartphones are in everyone's hands, not just a small tiny few who are technogeeks, or going back further, no such things in anyone's hands. These students have grown up in an era when Jobs and Gates were lauded as heroes and geniuses, rather than the con men they were/are. He's also bang-on about satire. 20 years ago I wrote satire. Today, I can't do it. Reality has become so inverted that satire can't find a place to aim. I'd suggest this hasn't happened without conscious plan by people who operate entertainment and "news" media businesses, and their lackeys who hold "elected" (ha ha ha, more like fixed) offices.
I've got to study this speech because it's so profound. I wasn't aware of a Franciscan University in Steubenville, Pa, I assume. Thanks 👍. No BS in our new paradigm.
Could of wrapped up the whole thing with the ending quote for a one-liner commencement address. "God did not put you in this world to be successful. He put you in this world to be faithful" -- Mother Teressa
Wow. My mind is blown💥 by the first 4 minutes of this address. I have NEVER made the connection between the bitten 🍎 apple, the devil 😈 and Apple/Bill Gates. 💉 💀
I loved his book on a conversation between JFK, CS Lewis and A. Huxley, I read it nearly 40 years ago and really enjoyed it. Can't find it anywhere now
Dr. Kreeft is a lovely speaker, very enjoyable to listen to. Though I personally take issue with some of his faith underpinnings for his ten truths, the fundamental points are well thought out and presented well. Well nine of the truths anyway. His view that critical thinking warps our world view is most flawed, by necessity as religiosity and spirituality unravel when introspected through critical analysis and by dismissing logical fallacies. A necessary part of his intellectual prostitution to a faith institution of higher learning, as he admitted. All other points however are well made and soundly presented (minus the justifications for Catholicism).

Encountered Dr. Kreeft at CS Lewis summer institute at keble college Oxford. So glad to run across this address. Bravo.
You have spoken truth Dr Kreeft and shall be blessed for it 🙏
Awesome to hear TRUTH once in a while!!
My First Listen of the New Year. Truth Truth Truth. Thankyou Dr Kreeft for this beautifully humorous and challenging advice.
What a POWERFUL speech-how tragic the graduates laughed instead of opened their eyes.

Bravo! I rejoice when someone in a position of responsibility behaves with character and integrity.

I am so happy and grateful that Prof. Kreeft is still out there pitching for the Faith.
Love, enjoy and learn so much from Dr. Kreeft. His books are wonderful; I've read them all and highly recommend them to everyone. He is gift to our world today. God bless you, Dr. Kreeft. You are always in my prayers.
That speech is memorably brief and valuable. Excellent examples and important keys
To add to one's tool belt.
Dr Kreft is a legend! Started reading him in 1992. The man helped me think properly after four years of undergrad state secularist indoctrination.
God bless your heart, Dr. Peter Kreeft.
This Man is simultaneously humorous and insightful.
I like that wittiness.
I must admit going in, I have never heard of this Man. But I am going to thoroughly enjoy this, I can tell ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Erudition, salted with pith and puckish humor, based on humble self understanding, make for an irresistible advertisement for Truth!
Bravo Dr. Kreeft.
I think Jordan Peterson would love having sessions with Kreeft.
So glad to hear this stated publicly to young people.
Look at Peter Kreeft doing material! I love it! Hysterical wisdom. We need more of this in the world. 🙏🏻
Brief, with a sharp wit, humorous, and self-effacing. Oh, how I wished all of my college professors were this way. LOL
Thank-you for telling grads the truth!!! God bless!
WOW WOW WOW!!!! Powerful speech and POWERFUL TRUTH!!!!❤
Excellent speech from an excellent professor. Very well said and thank you for telling the truth, Professor ! Watching from California.
I'm not an educated graduate, but Peter Kreeft held my full attention with this pithy presentation. I have always considered those ten points to be dangerous and now we are reaping what they have sown.
What an awesome speech ! So true. That speech should be given at all commencements. A beautiful and thoughtful gift to be given to the graduates.
FANTASTIC!!!! Oh how I wish everyone in high school, college, graduating, teachers, professors, parents, EVERYONE!!! should here this entirely! Truth!!!
Thank you, Dr Kreeft! I hope this sticks in the minds of your listeners.
This man's books have helped me so much in my life. God bless him.
What a great speech - there is so much packed into a few minutes. Need to listen to this at least a dozen times to take it all in.
I so appreciate this talk. From Buenos Aires. God bless you
I like this we need more people who tell the truth like this we shouldn't compromise on our faith don't give into intolerance but stand up for faith and truth
What a wise and insightful speech. Thank you so much ❤
I'm so glad I found this (or this found me). I somehow have not heard of Dr. Kreeft. After this wonderful introduction, I intend to rectify that.
You won't be disappointed. There's a video he has about the 10 (I think) best books everyone should read before they die.
His books are treasures.
He was my professor at Boston College. Any of his many books are well-worth the read. If you're not Catholic, warning - if you're a reasonable person and read his books, you will become Catholic.
@@MPFXT Wow! How incredible to learn from Dr. Kreeft in the classroom!
Amazing speech! God Bless Peter!!!! An amazing catholic and follower of the truth!
Once again, a speaker of truth.

I keep you in prayer. 🙏
This is probably the best commencement speech I have ever heard!Thank you for sharing!❤️
He’s amazing! Congratulations Steubie grads . God bless you all 🌹🙏
Best commencement speech of my lifetime!!!
Many times I've worried for the many I thought would be hurt by the 'You can be anything you want to' notion'. Was pleased to see it come up as number one here. Soldiered on despite waning warm responses. Many will come away having to deal with a thorn that signifies hard truth.
Thank you mr. Peter for sharing your message.
Incredible speech! Great to hear the truth and in such an intelligent and charming style too.
"Love can not stop waring hate" Awesome!
God bless Dr. Kreeft !!!
I will listen to this over and over. Bold and definitive words about our current culture.
I'm 70 yrs old and can say that this Dr. Kreeft is the only one that understands the word "WHATEVER"
“Our new DIETY!”
Brilliance! And cleverly amusing at the same time. Thank you.
Tried my best to summarize the 10 lies as follows:
Lie #1: "You can be anything you want to be."
Lie #2: "You're the most important person in the universe."
Lie #3: "The world needs you."

Lie #8: "Tolerance is the supreme good."
Lie #9: "All you need is love, certainly not truth or discernment."
Lie #10: "Freedom is an end in itself: freedom from responsibility, freedom to do whatever you please."
You don't have to be a catholic (or a believer, for that matter) to appreciate the wit. Thank you very much.
This man is amazing. This speech should be read at every commencement.
What a GREAT commencement address, Dr. Kreeft. Loved it.
Thank you and God bless you 🙏🇭🇷
I am 77, and I'm proud to say that I got the joke about the apple with a bite out of it twice as fast as the students did.
Yes, it was Adam who had bitten of that apple, before the snake...
I have to thank YT's autoplay. I'd have missed this for sure. Fantastic presentation. More books to buy!

This man is a rock star.
Kudos to Dr Kreeft and FUS! Everyone should watch this video!
What he said in 1 hr it's what some graduates learn in a lifetime!

"Men cannot become women."
Yeah wow HUGE lie - never deny reality
And women cannot become men, and women who claim to be men are NOT men who can give birth.
Obvious .
I wanted to like this video ten times.
Can’t stop listening to this often
As an Old Baptist, I sure appreciate Dr. Kreeft's apologetics. I loved his book, "Simble or Substance."
Thank you Dr. Kreeft.
The best speech I have ever heard!!! God bless you!!
Best commencement speech I’ve e ever heard !!!!
This is one of the best talks. Amazing, professor!
This is Gold 🏆
GOD IS THE SAME NOW AND FOREVER. BELIEVERS, THEREFORE NEED NOT WORRY ABOUT CHANGES OR REVISIONS. VERY ENLIGHTENING!
Just trying to imagine a Statue of Responsibilty in San Fran......
I love Dr Kreeft!.
A dense summary of excellent arguments to reflect upon, entertainingly packaged.

The best address in a commencement speech. Congratulations.
This guy had me laughing from the beginning to the end. I couldn't agree more with what he said.
