I grew up here, until i was 10, and I recognise so much. I remember playing in the gardens, and under the clock tower. We left over 17 years ago to move to Australia, and I hope I can go back one day. Thank you for this
@@GimbalWalkTV totally agree with Pauline. Hope I have shared this video properly, because my friend Margaret is a huge Dr Who fan. Think she would enjoy all the history as well. Thank you.
I lived here when I was 8 (now in my 60s) and remember very well going roller skating in the pier pavilion every Saturday morning. My late Mum worked in Macari's coffee bar and they had a juke box which drove mum mad because everyone wanted to hear the same songs! Early 60s so a great era. I also lived in Canterbury and small places called Sturry and also Herne village. Nice memories 🤗
We bought a Caravan last year, and keep it in Kent, which we have never explored. When we stay here, we'd like to visit Herne Bay, Whitstable and Canterbury, plus loads of other places. There's a lot on offer it seems, as most people just pass through on their way to the ferries etc. Lovely video! Thank You....
I have just watched this video of Herne Bay and found it nostalgic and also sad. I spent a great deal of my childhood (I'm now 79!) in Herne Bay as I had several aunts and uncles living in the town. Your video brought back many happy memories but I also found it sad. Sad because much of what I remember has gone. The Casino Cinema has now become an alternative entertainment centre, the Odeon cinema has gone completely and of course the 3/4 mile pier which I used to trot along has long gone along with the Grand Pier Pavilion where I was taken to many shows. All in all I found your video very entertaining and very informative. I now live way out to sea from Herne Bay...in Clacton-on-Sea which faces it on the Essex coast! Regards and praise Bob Grimwood
I love old seaside towns and have recently re visited Margate and Whitstable with my daughter who has the same love. Herne bay is next on the list and I enjoyed your video very much. Look forward to seeing all the sights you have shown us. Thankyou.
You have indeed done enough to make me want to visit Herne Bay because after seeing this i Booked a Place to stay for this weekend and i cant wait to explore in your footsteps thank you
Have just booked a holiday cottage in Herne Bay for a week in July, my wife and I are really looking forward to it and your video was very helpful. Thanks.

Fantastic video, thanks for posting. I grew up in Herne Bay and left in the late 70''s to join the Army. I am now Australian living in the tropics in Queensland, its great to see my old stomping ground bringing back so many memories.

i remember as a child in the 60s, along the arcade. where they sold those air-filled rubber rings and the sort. on a hot day the petroleum coming from that cheap quality plastic was enough to get a little high.
A nice and relaxing place ,but not much to do , drinks on the pier expensive, £5 a pint , usual slot machines on the sea front , nicer pubs inland , The Wine Bar good place to eat , also the Turkish restaurant . Taxi cabs are cheap , a lot of places need a face lift along the front , friendly people 😀
well Herne Bay has given me more than i expected thanks for putting this together. i cant remember when or if i have been there but i am planning on taking some Elderly members of my family , as my Aunt in particular says its her favorite SEASIDE TOWN it will hopefully cheer her up as she isn't mobile enough to take herself there. Our family lived in an apartment in The Dolphin Hotel in 1969 for 2 years. it was very hard for us children because we came from a huge house in Africa with servants, swimming pool etc to dreary Herne Bay. I was 15 and didn't know what depression was until after a few months of feeling so blue, I figured out it was the sky being so grey and there was no wide blue horizon, no open windows. I brought both my parents ashes from Africa to bury in Herne Church as my father had lived there as a boy. I'm 69 now but sill occasionally dream that I'm back the in dolphin and cry and wonder how did I end up back here?! Our family soon moved to Australia and the big horizons and blue sky were back. I was there the day the pier burned down and took a quick swim on the day the first man landed on the moon. Still Kent and the country so close to Herne Bay is quite beautiful and my father tells me hasn't changed since he was a boy. Thank you for your video, very well shot .... why did you not film the pretty beach huts near Hampton? always liked that area of beachfront. If you are wondering, if I disliked the town so much, am I watching your film , morbid curiosity, and I'm at a safe distance in California. Now I'm going to watch your bit about Canterbury, that is a gorgeous town. you do good work.
Lovely video. What is is needed along the sea front is suitable trees and containers full of sessional plants, it will seriously help enliven the area, as it currently looks far too sterile without such lush beauty, clearly needs addressing with the local Council.
Nice little piece of film. A shame it wasn't more in season when the gardens and place in general come alive a bit more. Very nicely filmed though. It would have been better if it was just a bit longer and continued down past the mini golf and showed all of the coloured beach huts at the other end of the beach. Nicely done though !!
Have done that same walk, during the winter, and enjoyed it. Enjoyed your video, well done, truely excellent, I look forward to seeing others. Minor critique, the background music, a bit loud, needs a bit toning down, I had to pull the volume way down low. Keep up the good work.
Went to Hearn Bay about 4 years ago on a coach trip but was in October so not much open but loved it. Your video brought back some lovely memories. Yes you have made me want to go back again but maybe in the summer months. Great Video.

It would have worth walking towards the little beach sheds , ( keep walking after the pier) it’s beautiful with their colours and walk to the other “ part of the beach . That further spot , nice!, ( Hampton way) if someone lucky, they csn see a beautiful 🌅 sunset too
Those coloured houses remind me of Balamoray when I watched it with my grand daughters 😊 they do stand out I must admit 😎 I love to see the sea nothing more calmer I could sit there all day it looks a nice place I bet it’s heaving in the summer
A very informative and enjoyable a video. I grew up in North Kent (plus my sister lived in Herne Bay for quite some years). So LOTS of memories of Herne Bay! The pier has only been open like this over recent years. It used to be used for some kind of sport from memory. Herne Bay seafront gets very busy during the Summer months.
My family spent many summer holidays in Herne Bay and I think I remember seeing barbed wire and concrete tank traps along the seafront in the early 1940's. Can someone confirm or refute this memory? Thanks!
