Fantastic video! I just dragged an air-cooled Vanagon out of a field where it had been sitting for 30+ years and something makes me think I'll be seeing similar carnage. Going to follow your rebuild with great interest.
Another great video man. Yup your looking at a SET of pistons and jugs. And possibly 2 new heads. There was a service bulletin a long time ago about not using the head sealing gaskets on a 2.0L . I would also split the case to get a good look at the camshaft and main bearings. Keep at it man your doing great!
@@jeremykonnerth9335 dude you’re the man! Thanks for the input. I’m confused about the head-sealing gasket comment. Do they recommend using sealant as opposed to the metal gaskets?
@ ok great. And what would be the best way to check cyl head “rebuild-ability”? Make sure it’s flat and bore is = ? I’m already planning on new valve guides
@@BenSosid rebuilding heads is a slippery slope.... It's almost better in the long run to replace them instead of rebuilding them .... Or have a machine shop that is familiar with heads take a look at them. The heads on a air cooled VW are the hardest working/most stressed part of the engine. It would Suck to drop a valve seat in 100 miles after your rebuild and have to do do it all over again. After all the Blood, sweat , tears and Money invested

@BenSosid no sealant. You use valve lapping compound to lap the cylinders to the head. I'm almost positive there are a few UA-cam videos on this.
