When Disney are blocking any creators discussing their products negatively, but are no doubt allowing those who speak positively to carry on, it smacks of their desperation. They are realising now that their bottom line is REALLY under threat because word is getting out, and people are finally seeing just how bad their crap really is, but rather than listening to their dissenters and making changes, they prefer to attack and carry on.
It's bullshit people are allowed to discuss and have their own opinions. And the fact that Disney doesn't want that and wants to try to silence. I recently had to take some laughable “anti bias training” (wokification effort) for work. Among other absurd and new-think exercises was one where I had to “put a picture of a black doctor on as your phone wallpaper to challenge negative stereotypes” and so forth.
Today I was at work. I work in the legal field and this diverse man was there for threatening a business full of employees with a gun. It wasn’t even a criminal matter, it was a restraining order hearing. Well, this diverse man caused such a ruckus by acting aggressive, loud and all but challenged the judge directly earned him about five deputies surrounding him and escorting him out of the courtroom. As he was being escorted out, he was rambling about the FBI and child molesters.
So am I supposed to ignore this POS’ behavior and imagine him wearing a lab coat?
My point is that Disney and the rest of Hollywood are engaged in a fruitless, almost impossible and very expensive psy-op. They are trying to convince us that we don’t see what we see and that we don’t notice trends. Pshh, if I see a group of diverse young men walking in my direction, I go to DEFCON 1, I don’t care what Disney movies try to tell me.

Disney/Hollywood has way overplayed their DIE card quota over good storytelling. Now EVERY movie or show will be viewed not with wonder but skepticism. Trust once lost is very hard to earn back Disney.
If you read the book it explains why it was the lost BOYS, which hardly compliments men. So yes that is cannon. Which the mouse as once again dumped all over.
in the story Wendy is the very portrayal of how girls inevitably grow up due to the fact they start menstruating and that they don't have a choice about that. thats where the whole "i dont want to grow up" narrative comes in. this is different in boys since their puberty process is different from that of girls. this is also why people usually say boys mature later than girls.
now nature calls for boys too eventually, but it usually doesn't happen until the age of 14-15 and up whereas in the case of girls it can happen as early as 11-13 (in extreme cases it can be much earlier, but those cases are anomalies).
Wendy is on the cusp of becoming a teenager, which she doesn't want to happen, and thats why she and her brothers go to neverland in the first place. because kids stay kids there.
that's the whole freakin' point of the film, and that they eventually learn that growing up is simply part of life and that even as a kid in neverland you sort of yearn to grow at some point.

It's gonna be so funny watching them try to girlbossify Wendy (and most likely Tiger Lily as well) "for a modern audience", when the 2003 Peter Pan movie already did that, and IMO, did it in a way that wasn't too annoying or in-your-face about it - plus, Peter Pan still got most of the focus. Basically, what I'm saying is, just watch the 2003 Peter Pan if you want a decent live-action adaptation of the book.

I had to stop watching this half way through to send a very lengthy email to Disney plus telling them what I thought of these tactics and their recent programming and why I'd never sub. My last para pretty much told them we may overuse the 1984 references but they're getting pretty close with their rewriting books/movies/history "every week". It's no good them trying to deny what's right in front of our eyes as I left them with a few of their examples.

The fact they added girls to the lost boys made me lose my damn mind 💀 The sole purpose of the lost boys only being boys was for Wendy to serve as the obligatory mother figure for being the only female present. Her role as a motherly figure to the boys ironically makes her feel like she's tapping into her womanhood, aka growing up, which causes a rift between her and Peter. This story takes place in the early 1900s where feminity mostly surrounded a woman's job as a wife and mother, hence why Wendy's instinct was to care for the boys and be attracted to Peter as a romantic partner.

When Disney does "direct to streaming" it's the equivalent of "worst venereal disease possible " to me. I look at both and think, "why would I want this? Why would anybody want this?"
@Charley Yeah, my comment isn't in regards to Disney creating content on D+. It's the fact that all the content created for D+ are varying degrees of dumpster fire. They had success with The Mandalorian, which was good enough, but Star Wars is now a zombie franchise. Just look at Andor. Pretty much everything else, though? Hocus Pocus 2, Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp. Any of the other Star Wars or Marvel series, none of which have come close to the heights of Mandalorian.
Also, they really don't need much original content for D+. They have the entire back catalog of Disney, a lot of which is still absent, and exclusive streaming rights for their theatrical releases. Those two factors alone are enough to get D+ as high as it's going to be. Problem is that's not enough for Disney. They wanted more. They wanted to be what Netflix was when they were the only game in town. However, Disney could never be that because even Netflix isn't what it was.
Bob Iger essentially promised the shareholders the moon when he proposed D+ by saying they'd have a glut of original, amazing content that would make them the king of streaming and generate tons of profit. Unfortunately, the only thing Iger delivered on was a glut of content that, as I stated in my original comment, is the equivalent of the worst venereal disease possible.
"Direct to streaming" is the current-day equivalent to "Direct to video"(tape) was back in the 80s. In both cases, most of it should have been released "direct to landfill" instead. 😛

Disney don't own Peter Pan. PP is in the Public Domain except in the UK that has very "unique" arrangement between original author J.M. Barrie and Great Ormon Street Hospital. That arrangement probably isn't even lawful, but it's bad publicity to go against children's hospital, so every studio pays their dues when they adapt Peter Pan. The Truth is that big entertainment industry is panicking because they lose copyrights every year to Public Domain. Winnie the Pooh and the last of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels were freed last year and more and more are coming...corporate fuckers and their legal lackeys are sweating and that's good.
