- The most current of current day shows has arrived, Velma. A show so self referentially progressive it comes across as massive obnoxious and narcissistic. There is NO humour in this "comedy" as it destroys beloved characters with it's basic, no charm, replacements.

A protagonist of the story
- Gaslighted the hell out of a man who didn’t lend her money, knowing that she can take advantage from his feelings for her.
- Framed another guy for murder while also body shamed him in public because he’s white and annoying and doesn’t like her back.
- Committing a drug trafficking.
So inspiring and so brave.

My wife and I decided to watch until we absolutely couldn’t anymore and whoever made it longer won a week of not doing dishes. I assumed I’d make it through episode one and that she could do 2 episodes. I was checked out at the 2 minute mark and she made it to 12 minutes. This was a jaw dropping piece of entertainment for all the worst possible reasons.

I moved on to reading a bunch of classic fantasy, sci-fi and horror books from pre-2000 and they’re giving me way more entertainment, emotion and food for thought than anything being made today.

Honestly, 20 yrs ago, my friends and I thought we would be done with anything “racist” any longer. The older people who were ought right racists would be dead or too old to assemble a bomb or a KKK meeting of any merit at an old folks home.
Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think the kids of 2020 would be purposefully choosing self-segregation and feeling like all of the opportunities provided in America were ascertainable by anyone who put the mind and determination into it.
We were so excited about the internet when it first arrived. The wild days of chat rooms and talking to people from all over the world. Seeing how much we have in common and customs that were different. Inclusion was a great thing and we were achieving it. Most of us taught our kids not to care about differences of minor frivolities like someone’s color, religion, nationalities, or who someone loved. And then the schools diverted all that was inclusive and told everyone of my generation to hold one accountable to one’s character over any of the minor details, switched it up because people coming together was bad for the elites business.
Now, it’s cool to be racist toward other groups, especially a white person who is male and is heterosexual. Young black kids are being told to expect nothing out of their lives because white people are going to oppress them. And we are seeing the absolute divide occurring over political ideological extremists operating on both sides of the aisle who are tied to WEF.
It’s a nightmare. And now, woke is racist, sexist, and downright awful to watch on tv, read in a book, see in everyday rhetoric online.
The great thing is watching Gen-X finally get pissed off enough to stand up and start taking action against the BS on local levels and creating businesses and focusing on their children against the woke teachers. Good luck to us and our kids who will be raised by us OVER the teachers who think they own our kids.

I was reading an article yesterday that the original concept for this show was supposed to be all new characters and had nothing to do with scooby doo characters. It got rejected so she decided to use established characters in the hopes that it would be picked up.
That would certainly explain a few things.
Evil cannot create, only destroy, twist and corrupt something that already exists.
Shows why Scooby isn't there, she has no talent to fit him into the script for a re write.
The best thing about him not being in though is it makes this completely nothing.
Scooby Doo without Scooby is ... nothing, and race changing all the characters means it cannot be canon in any way, shape or form. Just let this thing rot, no one will care about this.
This makes sense. No wonder she attacks the fans. She hates the fact that she had to ride the coattails of an existing show just for her shitty script to be accepted. Instead of being grateful she bites the hand that feeds her.

On a side note: why did they have to change Fred and Daphne so much? Fred had a working class background and recieved a football scholarship to go through college. Daphne, in lore, was the wealthiest member of the team being a heir to her father's fortune. Daphne's father was the one financially backing the group and provided the Mystery Machine to them.
The original Velma was interesting and fun. Plus, how do you have a Scooby-Doo show without him?
I mean in fairness I think a character can get a spin off without characters from their 1st show. So not sure that has anything to do with it being horrible.

On a positive note; I got my order in today of What's New, Scooby Doo on DVD. The return of Casey Kasem as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Fred and Scooby, and a tone that took the original series and simply put it in 2002. THAT is how you update something old for a modern audience. Well worth watching.
That shows intro song was so catchy. Haven't seen the show since I was a kid, but I still remember the intro song.

I grew up in the 80s. The Hanna Barbera Scooby shows were my bread and butter. Loved them all. So much charm, character, mystique and some decent comic moments. Perfect childhood shows that I still enjoy so much now.
I gave the Velma trailer a shot just out of morbid curiosity. It was so detached from everything I've ever known as Scooby Doo (even detaching Scooby himself), the characters were all different, the humour was awful. And that was just the trailer. Yep, steering a million miles clear of this mess.
Poor Velma she has to deal with Mindy’s nonsense.
Soon as I heard what this show was doing when it got announced, I was out. Thanks for suffering through this Az so we don’t have to.

I just want to know how to land such obviously high paying jobs with that much incompetence while being utterly insufferable and self-serving.
As formulaic and basic as the original concept of Scooby-Doo was, the reason I always found it great was because it was just a group of really good friends going on a road trip doing what they love and solving mysteries. They didn't fall to the Hollywood troupe of fighting or mean or teen drama. Just a group of really good friends who loved and supported each other on a road trip and solving mysteries. This is the reason why I never got into Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. It just has a ton more stereotypical Hollywood teen drama troupe and I felt, some of the worse characterizations of said characters.
Let alone HBO Max Velma. This is an atrocity a billion times worse then Mystery Inc. Scratch that, a hundred trillion times worse.
I feel the same about Mystery Inc. (There are a few things that I liked about that show. I liked the main villains, the side characters and the eerie atmosphere of the show). The teen drama was too much! It was awfully melodramatic, angsty and overall, just a chore to get through. Bit even that is miles better than this crapfest. The only versions of Scooby Doo that I like is the original 1969 Scooby Doo, What's New Scooby Doo and Be Cool Scooby Doo (I think that BCSD captured the heart and soul of the gang perfectly after the original series despite making it a bit more comedic).

Why do they think people will like stuff like this? Especially after you dump on fans of the show in your trailer… the trailer being the invitation to watch…but at the same time expect those same fans to turn up to watch? And then are genuinely pissed when the fans don’t! Even the people they’re supposedly catering to aren’t watching it…or maybe they are, there’s only 6 of them. What a colossal waste of time and money.
So, the first thing they do when the get the IP that's about solving mysteries is to sexualize kids.....

The fact they aren't making their own properties to dump on, but taking all of our collective childhoods and history to dump on, means they want to make this personal. I have no problem making my hate for them, their writers and their massaging personal.

I used to hate laugh tracks on old sitcoms, but today's Hollywood "comedies" sorely need it - I can't tell what they think is supposed to be funny!
They really put everything "modern" in it didn't they. Oh boy.
They really hate the old fans. And not saying that every movie or series of Scooby Doo was great, there were a few bad ones yes. But at least fans were not outright HATED by the writers.

I tried to follow the 'Keep your expectations low and you will not be disappointed' but I don't think I can dig myself out of 20ft of manure or disappointment really little difference with this show.

Having seen the first episode, I was constantly thinking "Just because you're meta about how cliché the writing is, doesn't' make it any less cliché," and "Why did they lock this into the Scooby Doo Universe?" Like... did WB think it wouldn't sell if it wasn't attached to the Scooby Doo name?

The best part of the cartoon was the antics of Shaggy and Scooby. The other characters were just scenery. A stoner and a talking dog. Perfection. This is more woke crap.
Even that "stoner" bit is just out of James Gunn's live action movies. There were no drug references in the old cartoons. Shaggy was just a hippie and he ate a lot like Scooby.
