Actually, I did know about the Google hum to find a song feature but NOT about the now playing feature on Google Pixels since I've seen so many ads on UA-cam for the Google song humming feature thing.
Another Google tip is that if you use the Google Clock app for your alarm, you can set a routine to go off when you dismiss your alarm. I have mine set to turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat, tell me the weather, what's on my calendar, and more. No more having to talk to Google in the morning!

I love SoundHound, so many times I'd hum a song and it picks it up so quick. Last one it got for me was Alors Dance (or however it's spelled) even when my humming was atrocious
Googles music thing is def better for non English songs tho. I tried a few songs in different languages and sound hound struggled with those and got them right less than 30 percent of the time while google got them or at least a suggestion of it every time

There's one big pain point I have with this. If I have a google assistant playing a radio station on TuneIn or something similar, and I ask it to identify what's playing, it sees that it's my other device playing and just tells me the metadata from it, which is usually just the radio station name and nothing about the song!
What device do you have? Because I am able to see the song when I hit search on my pixel 6. Also I never experienced Google not being able to tell me the name of the song if it's the one playing it, but it might be different for radio stations I guess.
@@micahjohnson9184 its an issue on Google smart speakers, they can't identify songs from streaming radio directly. Yes you could pull out your phone and have it listen but why can't it do it on the speaker

Google maps historically is way better and more advanced on iOS than on Android… perhaps they spread their app development on Android too thin on multiple problems but keep a more consistent pace on iOS, where they only need to focus on a handful of apps.

And I grew out of it but I recently hummed it after years and have been desperately trying to find it by typing various version of the name of the song and the artist used shazam and every other song finders but nothing worked so I just accepted it but your video just popped up randomly and google found it for me. It was truly a spiritual ascending experience. Thank you.

This is actually pretty old, but glad you're aware of it. You can also say Lumos and Knox to turn your phone's flashlight on and off. You're also able to wipe your hand across the screen to take a screenshot.
Well see some of the stuff you named are phone features. Not google assistant features. Google assistant works on iPhones. That hand wipe for screen shots doesn’t
Or you can use Samsung Registar to turn on flashlight by tapping your phone or navstar or again registar to take screenshot by navigation button or tapping the back of the phone

The most important thing is the melody. You can try humming, playing a flute, or even just sing with a completely wrong lyrics. As long as the melody is correct then Google will detect it.
They literally had a whole advertising campaign with some girls sitting at a table like "Hey Google, What is this song". It was an insanely annoying commercial.

I was mindblown that 20 years of on-off searching finally came to an end with some humming of what I could remember of a melody from such a long time ago.
After trying a lot of robots like this, I finally found the song I had in my head for months on this Google bot. I was very surprised because it was a '60s Italian pop song. But I must say it wasn't very easy to find the functionality at this time - a couple years ago. I hope Google changed its visibility / accessibility of this tool.
Plus: for those who don’t speak English and want to guess a song in English, if you type whatever sound like in your native language that resembles the original music name, it matches 100%. That’s superb.

Google now playing feature uses a database that is locally stored on the device, it doesn't send data outside of the device, it works offline

Almost every response from Google Assistant is "Sorry I don't have that information". Worked once because I sang the lyrics, ut nothing when humming.
Tried this on my Nest mini and she interrupted my beautiful humming with „NOTHING IS PLAYING RIGHT NOW“
