The cold shuts will work but I would use 5/16 or 3/8 cold shut on 1/4 chain. It looks like you have a good chain because how tight the links are. For instance I have a 3/8 chain, when I got it 30 years ago it was two 10' pieces. I used a 1/2" cold shut. I have pulled bull dozers out with it. Numerous stuck tractors. Chain is on a large farm and gets used a lot. Your video is very good.
atleast with the prices down here in texas with all the cold shuts and missing links you had used on that old chain you could have spent that money on a new chain idk bout up there
When you push the male end of the cold shut throw the female end, you only need push it through about til about 1/8" is sticking out. Then peen it well, and round it over til it "mushrooms" & it's definitely not coming out.
Weld the lap link. Use a larger any link. I use 1/2" cold shuts on 3/8" chain. Never stretched one or broke one. Pulled out bull dozers with 100 HP 4x4 tractors. Worked and has worked for 30 years now.

@thierry1026 your welcome!
How about lap links for chain repairs. Slide the chains through a beat the lap link down.
+Antonio Coley If one can find them, by all means there good to use as well.
