  • Welcome back to Minecraft, for the People! This 64 furnace super smelter plows through items, won't break the bank, and is extremely compact! I built this farm in 1.19.2 but it's also compatible with Java versions 1.14+, including 1.20!
    I had a lot of fun making this one, and as usual my videos take many days/weeks of time and effort, so please consider subscribing if you like this farm!

    Another excellent build. Thank you!
    Tips for anyone else building this in survival:
    1. Before first use, check the hoppers and furnaces for items that dropped into them during the build.
    2. The ender chest is not necessary.
    3. Smooth stone can be substituted with any other building block.
    A bit of feedback
    Some of the material counts are slightly off such as for rails. Items are missing from the material list including hopper minecart, chest minecart, and water buckets. There was no use of the signs from the material list during the build.
    It is sometimes difficult to follow the build from the video (e.g. 12:49, 14:35, and 16:16 can barely see what is being placed).
    Reference the "Rotating the Farm" section for more information when instructing to place the chests facing east at 11:10 or give another brief explanation why they must be facing a certain direction.

      Thanks for your detailed feedback! I was not aware of the materials list, I think what happened was it was from a slightly different schematic accidentally. The one flaw ive found for it, is just the reload times, but I am doing a build that requires a lot of smelting! Perhaps I am missing something, but loading the bamboo into the furnaces is slow. That is, the minecart is often times not picking up any bamboo. I could easily see smelting out pacing supply of bamboo. Maybe the buffer chests will help mitigate such a shortage?
    Cool design although I wouldn't consider it easy or compact.

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, the bamboo doesn't grow fast enough to keep up with the furnace array, but it fits the form factor nicely. You'd need to smelt more than around 10 stacks per hour continuously in order to run out of items, which is more than most players will need. Also the buffer chests do help if you have them filled up from AFKing as well

    Is there a way to add a double overflow in case the bamboo storage gets full. Say a trash can or send it to another machine for storage or use. Or how about a shut off so when it gets low on bamboo it doesn't let furnaces fill with smelting items so they dont clog the machine. Or would adding a bigger bamboo farm fix it from running out of bamboo.

    The detector rail at 14:40 that sends the minecart down the side to deposit overflow doesn't work for me, no matter which configuration I have it in. Would you be able to explain? All of the hoppers are full, as is the minecart, but it never goes down the side to dump the overflow

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  11 місяців тому

      Sure, it's a little hard to see, but there's a redstone signal strength of 15 running into the side of that comparator there (I do this with a lever on the underside of the block that also powers the rails on the cart's way up). What that does is it only gives an output from the detector rail whenever the cart is full and will switch the track then
      You can see that bit at 14:37
      Edit: after seeing another comment about this it may be a weird directional glitch? I'll test in creative soon to see, but I feel like comparator outputs from detector rails shouldn't be that broken. I'll check though

I think I am going to change the chest minecart to only release when it's contents equal 1 stack/64 items or 2 stacks/128 items, not sure which yet. I think that would be nicer to get a nice equal burn across all furnaces :-) The only thing I have noticed is that when priming with bamboo at the start, you can end up with the 1st furnaces the chest minecart goes over running out of fuel quick, as the bamboo hopper minecart reaches these last when filling/may not have topped it up much. I think once full up though, it won't be a problem 🙂 Thanks for the great design!

      @@potato_noir cheers :-) I'll take a look! I am having a bit of a problem with the T junctions, as I built my farm, I think, pointing south. Everything works fine except the divert to overflow. I used the torch in place of the repeater to switch the track to be powered, so it pointed the right way (turns right to go under farm). When the farm is full and the minecart is full, the circuit is removing power to the rail fine to send it down the overflow line, but the next detector rail (exit of the overflow) instantly switches it back... making the minecart do a 180 and head back the other way, over the 1st detector rail and down the slope! If I put a normal track in place of the detector rail (exit of overflow), it diverts correctly in to storage, but obviously then can't get triggered to turn left. The default resting position of the track piece with no power is in the turned left, exiting the storage position... so I somehow need to remove the powered signal from the 1st detector to get it to switch........... but I am going crazy trying to figure it out 😀 If you fancy joining our server and having a look, you are most welcome 😆😆

    the first furnace that get my semltable items right after the chest cart goes around the corner seems to get more items. also the bamboo distribution seems to be uneaven. standing in fort on the fartm, the furnaces to the right get more bamboo, getting less the more the cart travels to the left, where the first furnace that i was talking about gets the least amount. or that is because it gets more items to smelt. Any idea what might cause this?

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  7 місяців тому

      For the smeltable items, I never had this issue but you could try adding an extra powered rail before the cart hits the furnaces so that it has more speed.
      Sometimes if the bamboo cart doesn't pick up a full stack of items it can distribute them not perfectly evenly at first when it is filled up. Surprisingly in my testing, the disparity between furnaces on initial fill up was just a few blocks for lots of trips, so I let it be. You could add a system that prevents this, but it will further complicate the back redstone and rail system

Be aware that you MUST use a minecart with hopper for this modification instead of a minecart with chest like in the video: www.mediafire.com/folder/zao8ylyppbk6y/Bamboo_Farm_Super_Smelter
    Edit 2: If you built the farm North-South and are having issues flipping the T intersection that sends a full cart into storage, check out this screenshot for an easy fix: www.mediafire.com/view/sbvznlb4lriyi2q/2023-09-29_10.35.53.png/file
    Edit 3: there's a mistake with the hopper with a comparator running out of it at the back of the farm--it should be a stack and 5 items in the hopper instead of just a stack! Otherwise there's a chance the cart will pass through with less than 64 items due to how the comparator reads. This should fix most of the issues with uneven filling after you have overflow items in the chests. Stay tuned as I have a better version of this farm coming out soon though!

    heya! great video, I really like your creations.
    The bamboo farm flying machine broke after several irl weeks with it running fine - it's just stopped in the middle of the bamboo field. Think it's a fairly common problem with flying machine bamboo farms, so not a flaw in your design specifically. I'm guessing it's either a problem with bamboo growing immediately under the machine while it's moving interfering with it, or else it's a rare problem with unloading the machine while it's working (I have been unloading the chunks while the machine is running regularly and it's been fine, but maybe it's a "100% unload proof except when it isn't" situation!)
    Wondering if you've come across this issue in your testing and have a solution? If it's the unload problem, I'll just end up chunkloading it I think. Apologies if you mention this in your video but it's been a while since I watched it!
    At some point if I have time I might carpet tick warp it and deliberately load/unload the chunks and see if that breaks it... would be interesting to see if that is the problem.
    Also do you have a discord server? If not it would be helpful for sharing images to diagnose farm design issues and stuff!

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! I'm fairly certain that's from unloading/reloading the chunks, as I tick warped the farm a lot and never ran into the issue myself. I believe that's also a known "bug" for flying machines in general.
      I don't specifically mention this in the tutorial, but you could power the levers up top before you leave the farm to make it stop running. As others have pointed out, it will be mildly more efficient if you make its path go down and back every time since it will scrape any items off the top of bamboo blocks as well. So really you only should need one lever--just power it before you go and the farm should stop until you get there again.
      May not be the most elegant solution, but I'm not sure that a true fix for this exists. If someone does know a solution, feel free to post it though
      Edit: also I'm planning a discord server right now, I'm just incredibly busy! It might take a few weeks. But it's in the works!

    • @puns_and_ships
      @puns_and_ships 7 місяців тому +1

      @@potato_noir thanks for the really quick response! I'm very happy to believe it's an unloading issue, I guess we'd not noticed it for a while because the machine triggers fairly irregularly so the chances it's running at the instant the chunks are unloaded are small. But it's in a high-traffic area of the server so it'll keep happening unless we chunkload it or a player sticks around while it's running I guess!
      Re the stopping the farm before you leave it solution - I think this furnace array really shines when the time it's smelting is low compared to the time the bamboo farm is running. It's burning 64 bamboo every 2.5 seconds and it's not replenishing it that fast (can't remember the bamboo farm rates exactly but it would have to be like 100k/hr to keep up with that rate which would need a many times larger bamboo growing area). So if you stop the farm immediately after you finish smelting, you'll eventually run out of bamboo and throttle the furnaces unless you specifically afk the area with the farm running to replenish it. Assuming my maths is right? idk!
      It's been great for us just left running in the background, keeps up with our usage just fine and even produces extra bamboo we can skim off the top of the overflow chests which is great, but this only works if it's running all the time the area is loaded. Unfortunately most of the time, people are just passing through or doing other things, so it ends up getting unloaded a lot. Think chunkloading it is the only real solution that works here, which isn't that big a deal because we built Emdy's WAIFU iron farm right next to the furnace array anyway and need to chunkload that so may as well do both at once! As a nice bonus chunkloading it should up the bamboo output considerably, might look into a way to increase the size of the overflow bamboo storage
      Good luck with setting up the discord, will definitely join!

    • @potato_noir

      @@puns_and_ships cool, yeah chunk loading will solve all your problems. I love Ilmango's new 1.19+ chunk loader as I've had issues with boat types upon server restarts.
      Yep, I definitely designed this with the intent to AFK periodically to refill rates if you don't have a loader. If you do AFK to fill up its reserves, the lever solution should work, but spawn chunks or in your case chunk loading is a much better solution. I'm also working on an overflow protection system as currently that's the only minor flaw of the farm (the full cart will get stuck above the chests when everything is full). Stay tuned for that as well if you'd like to upgrade. I'll probably put it in the pinned comment

Hadn't realised there was an overflow problem, guess we've always tapped off bamboo before it got that full, but coincidentally I was just working on a system to automatically tap off a few stacks of bamboo from each storage chest based off a comparator reading to send it off to a box loader... two birds one stone?
      I'm also considering hooking up a "smart" chunkloader - when the observer for the flying machine fires, toggle the chunkloading on via a slime block line upwards, short delay while they turn on, then fire the flying machine, then toggle off when an observer sees the flying machine return to its station. Avoids having 24/7 chunkloading but prevents unloading while it's running

      I just built it in survival on Bedrock Edition. I am having an issue though. Since we cannot hotkey all of a type of item into a chest minecart, we need to create a minecart loading system. I've come up with a way to do it using a hopper minecart that fills itself from a chest above it. The redstone logic sends the hopper minecart out once either the chest is empty, or the hopper minecart is full. The issue that I have run into is that the hopper minecaft with the smeltable items sometimes runs next to the hopper minecart delivering the bamboo and manages to snag some of it, so then the furnaces can end up with bamboo in the smelting slot. I am currently working on a system that uses a chest minecart that allows us to load it manually, sending it out once we are done loading. Let me know if you attempt to build it in Bedrock!

    Really nice, easy to build and cheap furnace array! I really like it. Perfect for your first base on a small server or in single player.
    There are multiple ways this furnace array might fail, which I think is fine because that fits the design philosophy of keeping it simple. However there is one way the furnace array breaks, that I find rather unintuitive. If all the bamboo buffer chests and hoppers above are completely filled and the minecart has items left in it, it will never leave that part again and will never refill the furnaces again although there is plenty bamboo left. That is because the smart system moving the cart back and forth over the hoppers will never let it out again.
    There are two easy ways of fixing that I have in mind. One is an override to the detection system that keeps the minecraft in that bamboo buffer part when the hopper of the first chest is completely filled. That will keep the cart moving around making sure the furnaces get refilled. The other one is to use two hopper minecarts. One for grabbing the bamboo from the farm and putting it into the buffer chests. And another one for distributing the bamboo from the buffer storage to the furnaces.
    If you are interested I can show you my ideas just hit me up. Otherwise as I said really nice and simple design!

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  7 місяців тому

      Really great analysis, and exactly how I feel about things too. My original idea was to go with a more simplistic/approachable design since the overflow stuck cart is really easy to manually reset, but I should have mentioned this in the video. In hindsight I think you and the other person who commented are right in that it needs overflow protection.
      The way I'm thinking is to put lever powered dust into the side of the overflow comparator and switching it to subtract mode. This wouldn't be automatic exactly, but would be a good solution considering the manual input of items anyway. You would input your items to smelt, then go and throw the lever for a few seconds for the cart to go back through.
      I just did some tinkering and I got a system using a chest comparator working as well, but the only downside of this is it doesn't let you store 5 more stacks in the hoppers as quickly. I think two separate hopper minecarts is likely the best way out of all of these, but I'd need to spend a few more minutes redesigning things

      Bamboo just requires a light level of 9 or greater to grow! That's what the wiki says, so you could build it underground

    Does this work on bedrock?

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  4 місяці тому

      It wouldn't be impossible to get working on bedrock, but I unfortunately don't have the time available to make farms for both versions right now. There's almost certainly a few redstone differences so that it wouldn't work as is

  • @Zizians

    Will this farm work on Bedrock 1.20?

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  10 місяців тому +1

      I can't say for sure as there's a lot of redstone here, but if I had to bet I'd say probably not. I think the rails and rail redstone is likely different. You could play around in creative and possibly come up with a fix though

      @@potato_noir Yeah it won't work on Bedrock, since water can break the rails. But still, some parts of the build can work.

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  6 місяців тому +1

      It can be without optimization mods or with a lot of lag around where you build it. If you can power the hoppers when not using the farm it will be much better though. I mentioned this in my 1.21 version of this farm showcase

    • @brainofeu
      @brainofeu 6 місяців тому

      I just built it in survival, works great, however I have some more notes for others who would like to build it as well. @@potato_noir
      #1 The farm has a cooldown. If you try smelting stuff and furnaces have < 3 bamboo, the farm will soft lock itself. This is because smelting any item takes 4 bamboo, and the furnaces will consume the bamboo before it gets to smelt the item if it has < 4.
      #2 This design specifically can smelt at most 16 stacks, then the cooldown mentioned in #1 applies.
      These are not major drawbacks, just things I felt needed to be mentioned

    • @potato_noir
      @potato_noir  6 місяців тому

      @@brainofeu it will actually be able to smelt more than that at once if all the hoppers are full! 6 x 64 = 384 bamboo / 4 = 96 items per furnace, or 96 stacks total (and it should refill some in that time so you will even get a few more than that). Also my new 1.21 version uses bamboo crafted into planks to not soft lock itself when you smelt too many items! They are a much better fuel source
