From Greenwood Ms. My dad had people from the production company come to him about places they could film "The Help" . They used his store front, his personal antique refrigerator from the 40's and my grandmother's dining table from the 60's. I actually sold my washing machine to the film crew to use. When they Filmed "Get On Up, they actually came back to my dad and used an antique washing machine I believe. I got to see some of the filming locations. They also fixed "The Duel" with Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth in Greenwood as well. Alot of history there. Great Video man. I remember going to that mall as well. Weekend getaway to shop and eat till it got too dangerous

As a small kid, our elementary school class was given a tour of that CocaCola plant which was in operation at the time. It was the late 1960s. I remember the bottles, the green glass ones, moving rapidly thru the machinery. They cooked us hotdogs in the events room while we watched a movie about CocaCola history. It is very sad to see this once thriving plant now abandoned. So much of Jackson is abandoned. Other cities around the state like Tupelo, New Albany, Oxford, and Laurel just seem to get better and thrive. But Jackson is a mess and just gets worse. What is to become of it?

I lived in Jackson in the late 90s and early 2000s. Definitely not what it used to be. Id love have been there in the 50s to 70s. But to be honest, I'd rather not go there now unless to visit friends in the suburbs. It's sad what that town as a whole as turned into.

Neat..... historical buildings.... Shame most are not kept up..... Will waste away to dust...... malls were fun when I was a kid... wonder how long before they really become a thing of the past... used to have 3 malls in my area, now down to just one.... neat old buildings... like the old neon signs...... don't make them like that anymore.... thanks for sharing.... take care..... have a great day..... thanks.....👍👍👍👍

Awesome video! I work in downtown Jackson. Oh and did two scenes in Get On Up with Chadwick Bozeman and Dan Aykroyd.
    Keep up good work!

Thanks for sharing Micah! “Hey, look kids, Big Ben” 😂 some great sites in this video - such a shame to see some of the buildings now no longer being used.

I grew up in Jackson MS. 1965-1990. Loved being raised there but sad at what it has become. The first larger capital building is the new capital. The second smaller one on state street, at Capital is the old Capital. Jackson was a great city at one time. Such great memories of friends and times in that city.

Your video brought back to mind (I had forgotten about) a Coca Cola bottling company in a town nearby where I grew up in New Hampshire. Every time I went by as a child I would look in the front windows and you could see bottles moving on an assembly line. I haven't been back to that area in over 50 years, so I am sure it is gone. But, fun memories! Thanks for sharing your hometown.

Always used to look at the plant from across the street when I was at Battlefield Park, just wondering how day to day operations went.

It’s too bad you don’t actually know any of the history of the places you are talking about, especially considering it’s your home town. It would make this video a lot more interesting and informative for people watching.

@@worldofmicah You are doing yourself and your audience a disservice. If you can’t take some constructive criticism, stay off UA-cam and social media. Jackson has a lot of problems. I know because I live here. But I also know a lot about the history of Farish Street, Capitol Street, Highway 80, and the restaurants and bars and music venues. That history is rich and interesting, and I just see this as a missed opportunity. I’m not suggesting your video should be some historical guided tour of Jackson, but it could have been more than “my band used to play there” and you reading historical blues marker signs.
