My father was one of the finest men I've ever known in this world. I loved him very much and there isn't a week goes by when I don't miss. him and wish he was still around. His ashes were scattered about 15 years ago. So believe me when I tell you that I don't do this lightly, that I mean these words with all the gravity such an oath should carry. I swear on the soul of my departed father, that every word of this interview is the truth to the very best of my recollection, so help me God.

We sold every bit of spare equipment and did go in Cargo studio's which became quite 16 in Rochdale. The drummer Brian Schofield was a trained drummer and we got him to do the demo we then sent to John. I have copies of that session as well. The origional tape I have. No drums. Very rough versions of here today, looking inwardly etc. When the session was aired we were all sat at Alistair house and the buzz was incredible. The next day EMI, Factoty, NME ( mick Duffy from iQ zero) were all on the phone to my mums house where I lived at the time. John Walter's, Peels producer tang ul Mark and that's when we did the first Peel session at Langham house. It was an old 8 track. We realised Brian wasn't the drummer for us and auditioned several people where we rehearsed abo d a pub called the railway in Middleton. John Lever turned up with a massive scar down his leg where had fell in the canal in Ashton and there was blood pissing out of his leg. I knew he was the man for the job. He wasn't as tight as Brian but Steve Lillywhite knocked John onto shape playing to a clock track. That's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the Fucking truth! Dave Fielding. Xx

Suite 16 sorry... Hooky, Shan Hira and I thin Chris Hewitt were the owners. Previously it was called cargo. When him and John left the band and formed the sun and the moon. After they split after one album Mark walked in Suite16 and took the tapes of 4tracks which would of been part of the 4th album and released them as " The Tony Fletcher ep"... The other was a live rehearsal for the Free Trade Hall gig and he called it tripping dogs. Me and Reg had to got to a music business in Liverpool and take legal advice. Only then did we get any money. He's a thief as well as a liar! Fact. I have copies of both. He the went to the warehouse in York and sold the remaining stock on the internet! Deny it Burgess? I still have the letter you wrote to me and Reg saying why you did it. You are are one hell of a liar. If only Steve Lamaque knew the truth? Xx

Let me say as a huge Chameleons fan (and bellows) how delightfully gobsmacked I am to find members of the band writing comments here. I mean, I've seen 'Elvis' and 'Lennon' writing comments recently but this is REAL! I've just been writing an essay for my class (about bridges in songs) and made ref to The Chameleons and their wonderful (and for me very conveniently titled) album, The Script of the Bridge. What a great interview here, and all the comments below are fabulous. I'm afraid I'm of an age where I'm well and truly in my autumn before the winter, but it is spring that still that lives within. Truly love all the songs that The Chameleons have produced and love that they were different and that the band stuck to its principles. Fame and fortune are great distractions that overwhelm true greatness. Appreciation by knowing music lovers is a reward you can't put a price on.

@@vv247 Yeah. Again I wrote in on a keyboard as an instrumental ..my solo album is 13 instrumentals. It's as basic as that I wrote it and played it. Silence sea and sky. Paradiso. Home is where the heart is. All the chord progressions were done on my solina that I ended up putting an axe through while it was plugged in and it set on fire... The song title is from the Belgium cartoon tin tin. Called Prisoners of the sun. I did a lot of Chameleons instrumental stuff on my own. I.e. Time. I don't like at all but 'the end of time is me' and I like that part. The end of view from a hill etc. Anyone in the know would know what I did in the band . Me and Reg would come p with the basic riffs , tunes and Nurgess was good at pulling them onto songs. Not always. Swamp thing is a RIP off of Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac tune. Same notes played slightly different. Me and Reg mainly wrote the music side of things and Burgess would do the movies generally off the back of our guitar playing and lyrics. Very often dubious. " The fragrance of Children every where" ? WTF. I don't believe in CND.? I could go on but work it out for yourself. Listen to the Reegs double cd and it's pretty obvious who wrote the music in the Chameleons. Me and Reg! Fact! Xx

The album is really an album of sounds apes. Pictures but in the form of music. I produced it and self fiananced it. I recording most of it in my studio but went into a small studio called Brickbeat in Lincoln to edit and add some extra instruments. It was mixed by Gary Bailey. One thing I don't want is an internet arguments as all ivwas doing was expressing my reaction to Burgesses lies in that one interview! I have always kept myself to myself and don't do social media. I felt compelled to have a go at HIM! Nobody else. Please don't fall out with each other over my comments, I didn't do it for that. I just wanted people to know the real truth not the bullshit 90 percent of that interview was. He believes his own lies. We have never mixed any track in 15 minutes never mind up the down escalator. Ease get on with each other. The world is In turmoil.we should Love each other. I worked with the Great Jack Sobel, Black Swan Lane on Vita Eterna. He restored my faith in humanity. Kind. Generous. Talented beyond belief. I was very poorly leading up to going and I did it to prove to myself I still have a God given talent and to make Jack's album the Best, which it is. I only was ther for a week and two days were travelling but I did my best and I haven't heard a bad word about that album. It is a classic. Love each other. Don't fall out. I can deal will Burgess on ANY level and anyone who knows me knows that! I'm a private ate person with a lot of health issues but after 61 consecutive hospital appointments I had to do it on tha advice of the hospital. There were more other ones but forget that. I just wanted to say don't arg6on my behalf, I'm a Rough Tough Cream puff fro. MANCHESTER and I CAN look after myself. Peace and Love is what this world needs before we destroy ourselves and everything in it. Yes I Don't like Burgess and have kept quiet for the last 16 years but leave it to me so sort that fuck whit out. Be kind to each other cos the common link with you all is the great music we created. When MB talks about how they produced the album themselves, how did they do it if they weren't knowledgeable about recording studios? The album was produced with Colin Richardson but he wasn't even mentioned (??). The album sounds like it could have been produced by Steve Lillywhite. The drums are loud as fuck like on his other productions of U2 Boy and War and Simple Minds Sparkle in the Rain in particular. I don't know how they did it but the whole thing (SOTB) is a magic vibe, a once in a lifetime release. The songs were more like channeled than composed. From the sky down to Earth. 😇

Stay cool girl and look forward to a better life without him. I am so much happier... The Reegs. My life travelling with my ex Snow Queen In a van. Festivals / farm work/ LOVE! ... Becky Ward. One of the nicest girls you could ever meet. He is so irrelevant in my Life. The Chameleons Music. The Reegs. Etc is my strength. Stay cool. Ignore him even. I don't do email. Farce Book etc so I don't see 1 percent of the years of hatred and vile that he despences.... Anyone who doesn't agree with he blocks or shuts them down. Live for NOW! The past has gone. Tomorrow never comes. Live for Now! Lots of Love. Me and Ooshka. Xx

@PoeEternal integrity is a great way of putting it. Keep your self respect and Dignity and Life does not revolve around him or The Chameleons. I co wrote and played on every Chameleons song ever recorded. It's in the Past. NOW! Is what it's all about. He has tried to bait me but I couldn't give a fuck. My Ooshka means more to me than him. I miss John so much and Reg to a point but Burgess? No Way! He is not part of my life. I Live in Peace, happiness, Love that I didn't know existed... Love yourself. Love everybody you meet. The Vile Shit he has been spouting for years now goes right over my head. Listen to BSL. Vita Eterna. That's real Love! Music is Jack's way of expressing his Love. My Love is Ooshka. Friends. Family. Stay positive. Goodnight now babe, I'm exhausted! Lots of Love and Positive vibes. Me and Oo. Xx

I never saw JD live, but watching Chams 3 times
A unique sound and much better all round, I still play Script, not listened to any Joy D, for decades !

You replied mark about Rak studio's! Wasn't the Steve Lamaque interview about ' Script of the bridge?' As you said we did record in 1981 at Rak. In shreds, Nostalgia and The Fan and the Bellows. Script of the bridge was recorded in 1983 at Suite16 in Rochdale. Nostalgia and The fan and the Bellows weren't on Script and the in Shreds version on script isn't the single version produced by Steve Liilywhite, we did the script version in Suite16. Dave.

I was seeing g a girl who was a student in Liverpool for about 6months. My first Love. Vesna Rodic. We used to go to Eric's on Mathew st. The singer from frankie goes to Hollywood was the cloakroom guy. Pete burns worked in Probe records. We saw the cramps. Bauhaus. Loads of great bands. We all lived with our respective parents at that time well before Chameleons were formed. Why the fuck would we move to Liverpool. The girl I was seeing lived in Reading. Another lie Burgess! Xx
