Thank you so much for this video, Sabrina. I am at the end of my rope with teaching. Toxic environment, undervalued, and no wiggle room for creativity. I can’t wait to pursue my career in ID.
Thank you, Sabrina! Everything you mentioned resonated with me and I am so anxious and nervous about leaving teaching this year after 20 years. However, mental health is a big deal and I know it’s time to go. I have the potential to do much more! Your video gives me inspiration as I navigate my way toward a new career! 🎉
Burnout is no joke. I feel that post-Covid vibes such as increased aggression and apathy in my learners are helping push me out the door as a French teacher. Definitely feeling within the last 5 years that being a teacher is also being a parent...lots of parents are not equipping their children with the "school-ready" skills they need to have a successful day. It can't only fall on us teachers to solve all of this.
Thanks for sharing, you are definitely not alone! That is a sentiment my team and I hear a LOT from current educators. It shouldn't have to fall only on the shoulders of educators to solve such a big problem. There are other options out there!
All of these things could be said for ID as well though. You may know better about how adult learners learn but you need to do hings the way the org has always done them. Thought you could be really creative in storyline? No, you need to do it exactly as the rest of the team does them which may just be the same outcome as a powerpoint. Grass isn't always greener... So think about it before you switch
Very true, Emily. Some roles can definitely be frustrating (I’ve been there). Compared to education, though, I think that most IDs are not dreading going to work every day. But yeah, corporate ID is not perfect by any means. It just generally affords much better quality of life than K12 teaching 😃
@Emily-hn5ee At least your career transition based on your skillset is useful in multiple vertical rather than getting stuck within the school stereotype settings, it's about flexing her creative muscles beyond the bricks and mortals of a workplace called classroom, it's about worklife balanace which 90% of teachers global do NOT have, It's about having opportunities for growth; Can you freelance as a teacher, can you get paid per appearance in the classroom, can you earn what you deserve, more talented teachers take multiple roles within the school system, show me a teacher that has a job description and you'll realize how much the word teacher has lost it's meaning outside of context.
