The title, pronounced like "jer maker" is part of an old, corny joke. Guy #1 says "My wife went on holiday to the West Indies." Guy #2 says "D'yer mak'er"? (which can either sound like "Jamaica" or "did you make her" - as in 'did you make her go?') and Guy #1 says "No, she went of her own accord". It's a bad joke but anyway...the Jamaican style was done for fun, similarly to the James Brown style for The Crunge and they always enjoyed playing around with different styles. They also got a kick out of hearing Americans and other non British speakers try to pronounce the title.
When you have finished the album, and then listen a couple times, full album, then the whole vibe progression, from song to song, will take you away. No Quarter
One of my most favourite Zeppelin songs! I've always loved this! Yes, the rock calibrated with reggae, it just sounds so good!!! The Police has that style. Love it!
👏👏👏 This is my favorite song off this album.... anytime it comes on, I have to move!!🙃 There's one main story about it's origin, However.... I stumbled across a filmed interview with Robert, Jimmy and JPJ a few years ago... Robert and Jimmy said it's also a play on words. Back in their day in England, when guys would ask each other "Did you 'make' her?" 😉😉 in their heavy British dialect/accents it sounded like "d'yer mak'er?".... then they had a good chuckle over it... which story is true??? 🤷♀️ Knowing their history with double entendres, it's probably both!!😂🤣 Anyway, I can't put into words why, but this is my fav off this album!!🤗 You hit the nail on the head 100% Biz.... this music is timeless!! Great reaction!! 😎❤
@@gerhardbraatz6305 Thank you Gerhard!!🤗 When I first heard the Jamaica story, I thought it sounded a little boring for the guys of Zep.... almost every song is about sex (in one way or another)!! 😅 So when I actually saw with my own eyes, Jimmy and Robert say it's a play on words and back in the day (in England) guys used to ask each other after a hot date.... "did you make her?" that it sounded like d'yer mak'er in their heavy accents!! I personally think the Jamaica story is just a cover up for PR reasons!! 🙄 Either way, it's a just a dang good song!!💕
I just read an article about this song. Bonham hated it. JPJ said he thought if he didn't hate it so much, maybe it would've been better. Can't love em all! 😆❤️✌️ I like it.
I haven't listened to this song in a long while. I used to not like it at all, but hearing it again now, it is pretty sweet. There's another band the does a rock reggae fusion brilliantly called The Police. All five of their albums are 🔥
Fairly ground breaking for the time. Before other White, rock bands, were fusing reggae. A couple of years later Eric Clapton covered Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" and then you had The Police, Men at Work, etc... and eventually bands like Sublime incorporating Ska and Reggae.
What did I tell you on the first song of the album after you noted the change of the sound from L Z 4 -- ,,IF you LIKE L ZEP ,you will like this album !**** ...
Hey Biz, I must admit this is not my favorite Led Zeppelin song, but you have to admire them for trying to do songs in every genre. Thanks for your reaction and keep on your musical journey.
Bron-Yr-Aur is a cottage that Jimmy Page & Robert plant did some song writing/composing at.......... The name is a joke they made up pronounced "Jamaica" in a London Cockney accent. It's OK it is missed pronounced by most people who haven't heard the story. My favorite mispronunciation is "Did you make her"? Beach drink: 'Piña Colada' or 'Sex on the Beach'
I've watched a few of your reactions to Led Zep Biz. I enjoy your fresh take and honesty on my favourite band. Your appreciation of their music shines through and you "get" their music. I've subscribed to your channel. Now I'm going to backtrack all your previous LZ reviews 👍
It's hilarious because there was presents and then In Through the Uut Door came out with the brown paper bag sleeve as the album cover more or less, and was their final album before Bonzo kicked it, and it seemed more pop compared to a lot of their earlier stuff and I wasn't so sure I liked it. But what's really strange is somehow I lumped this song into that album, because it feels like it belongs on that album so much! And to be fair it didn't take me long to play the hell out of that final album. And when I listen back today? I honestly feel like it is their crowning masterpiece. It's so strange that Bonzo would die right after that. But I tell you what man the album is put together like a high-dollar movie with an incredible amount of thought behind it and the musicianship on this at this point is just through the roof. It's just mind blowing. And the songs are all memorable beyond belief. Their skills just kept going and going and going.
Bubblegum was my first impression. The album is my favorite and I saw them on this tour. But not my favorite on first listen. It builds on you after a hundred thousand try’s.
Hi Biz, you mentioned that you struggled with the pronunciation of Bron Yr Aur, it is a Welsh place name . Bron - you have nailed 👏 Yr is pronounced "er" as in her and Aur is said as "ire" like tyre. It means hill of gold.
This was a very tongue in cheek song. A fusion of Doo Wop and Reggae. The proper pronunciation is Jamackher. It an old British joke about Cockney accents. One Cockney says to another where his wife is. He replies in the Caribbean. The first asks Jamaica? (apply Cockney accent here). The second replies no she went willingly. Apply that and the Doo Wop/Reggae fusion and you have a classic song.
You're not the only guy from a hip hop background and usually a lot of other stuff too, sometimes r&b, who knows. But I do hear this reaction a lot from reactors, and I never understand why people would rag on a hip hop reference. If that's your benchmark and your home territory that you know well, it makes the most sense in the world that sometimes you would use it to compare things or reference things or gain insight into things. I'm not a huge fan of Hip Hop but there's a lot of it I like because as musician I give a crap. And so I don't mind at all when these references get pulled in, and in fact I've been driven to go listen to some pretty cool stuff just by somebody that's adamant about it in their feed doing a comparison about some classic rock song. Syed Rewinds did those a lot. More power to you for sure.
It would basically be pronounced "Jer-maker", the way a Brit would say "Jamaica". The "double entendre" here, and the reason it's spelled the way it is, is it's like a Brit (of a certain dialect) saying "Did ya make her", which means "did you hook up with her"... 😎🎱
This is another song from the album that got a lot of radio play. So if you old timers think that you never heard this album, you actually heard a lot of the tracks. (I'm in that group so I can talk like that) Sounds like LZ wanted to do a raggae song....hence D'yer Mak'er
I am one of the few who prefer the "Houses Of The Holy" album over the INCREDIBLE, classic Zeppelin 4. It's such a tough call. Have you checked out "The Ocean" yet, from Houses of The Holy"? OMG.
ODD TRIVIA FACT: The great song "Houses of the Holy" does not even appear on the album of the same name. It is on the iconic "Physical Graffitti" LP. They held on to it for whatever reason, and released it later.
I was wondering the same thing!!🤷♀️ I was taught if you don't have anything nice to say (or at least constructive) then don't say anything at all! There shouldn't even be a dislike button... if someone doesn't like the vid than don't hit the thumbs up and move on.... NO dislike button required PERIOD!! (IMO). 🤗
Little interesting fact- the song is meant to be pronounced like your sayin Jamaica. Led Zeppelin did this as a joke but literally no one got it bc of the spelling 🤷🏼♀️IKR 😂 D'yer (Jur) Maker (Makr)
You mean to tell me that someone would really be pissed about mentioning Kanye along with Zeppelin. How damn childish that is. People just need to lighten up.
Really prefer when you stop and give your opinion throughout the song. I’ve been listening to these songs for over 40 years, there’s no point in just watching you listen to a song, it’s Really boring, I just skip to the end to see what you have to say. Hope you reconsider ✌️
The best Zeppelin album is the one you happen to be listening to at any given moment... 😎🤘
Well put 😁
EXACTLY!!!
D’yer Mak’er its a play on words “Jamaica” 👍👍👍👍
But with a British accent.
Pronounced Jer maker
I love the drum breaks in this one. John Bonham doin' his EPIC hard hittin' drum rolls. Best drummer ever was. PERIOD !
Preach!!!

Houses of the Holy is an amazing album....I don't know if it's their best, but it would definitely be anyone else's best :)

Sorry but Physical Graffiti #1
One of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for the video.
The last two songs are fantastic.
By the sixth song, you can sense the greatness. By the eighth, there's no denying.
🎸💯 Lovin that funky "island vibe"‼🔥
I love this song because I had some friends in high school that had a band and they rocked this song.... such great memories
D'yer Mak'er is the first Zeppelin song I ever heard. I was 12.

Biz, I feel I have a brother in music! You rock!
Because of the island vibe of the song, the title is actually a play on Jamaica and is pronounced like Jermaicer.
