Furnace Starting and then Stopping Solved!

  • Winter is coming and my heater was not working. It would start up but the heat would never come on and it would shut down after about a minute. Turns out it was a plugged pressure switch hose. It cost nothing to fix and I just told you the solution so you don't really have to watch the video I guess. But take a look at where the issue was and hopefully, it is as easy as this for you to fix. Sorry about the wobbly camera...it was a tight location.

    If the furnace is lighting but then stopping after about 4 seconds it might be the flame sensor: ua-cam.com/video/aj-SXJheALs/v-deo.html

    Excellent video. It helped solve the on, off, on, etc issue. I first cleaned it the sensor which did have carbon build up. But I found the sensor was loose from the insulator. Went and bought a new one, and did not work correct at first. To anyone doing this for the first time, watch for orientation of how the sensor was positioned (especially if you have one that has a bend to it) when you take it out. After I took it out I found it was not positioned right in to the burner. Sensor cost $32, but would have likely been $200+ if I made a service call.

    So glad I found this video. There was condensation in the tube so I blew it out and now my furnace works again. Thank you so much!

    Until I saw your video, I had completely forgotten about this tube on the Draft Induction Motor.
    We had trouble with this one before.
    This time it was really clogged.
    Nothing a paperclip couldn't handle, but I did employ my Shop Vac to suck the rust out.

    This fixed mine!! Was some ash in there. I used a tooth pick to unclog. Mine ran for 30 seconds then shut off. Cleaned the port to the inducer and works perfect.

    I cleaned the flame sensor and that didn't solve the problem, but I found that nozzle plugged, as you did. Pushed a tiny allen wrench through the clog, and now it works. Thanks!

    That is an inducer motor which draws air to create a vacuum and closeprexsure switch, it doesn't blow air.

      It could be a flame sensor issue. ua-cam.com/video/aj-SXJheALs/v-deo.html But, you might want to have it looked at by a professional if this does not work. I hope it does.

    I tried pulling my hose out, but it's really stuck on there. Any tips to remove the hose???

    • @LordCryptid
      @LordCryptid  Рік тому

      You can use a needlenose pliar to slowly work the hose off. I f that does not work you might consider a light and controlled shot of a lubricant. I use WD-40 for everything. But maybe use a Q-tip to apply it so you don't get flammable gunk everywhere. Too much might corrode the hose so be sparing.

      I used the smallest screwdriver on my Leatherman Tool. A straightened paper clip would have worked just as well.

    My furnace is brand new. It will run and decide to use heat pump or gas. After a while it will shut off and seconds later it will go back on with a loud jet engine sound. Any ideas?

    • @LordCryptid
      @LordCryptid  2 роки тому +1

      If it is new I suggest contacting the company that installed it. I had a heater like that years ago and it made a similar sound but it was due to a leak. Please get yours checked out.

    • @BeaverDaveECV
      @BeaverDaveECV 2 роки тому

      @@LordCryptid According to the company that installed the system, it works on heat pump (electric) and when/if the system deems necessary it shuts off and then goes to propane. I have never had a heat pump before so does that sound correct? The installer said even though it ran on electric for 40 - 50 minutes it was still cheaper than 100% propane.
