    Hey man, this video is still beyond helpful 3 years later. The gh5 has really stood up and I think will stay an incredibly valuable camera (especially for the price) for years to come still. This has been beyond helpful and I appreciate the work that you guys do. Definitely will be grabbing some gear through your links and checking out your channel :)

    I just bought my GH5, I'm a total noob to photography and using any kind of real camera. This tutorial is AWESOME and so very helpful breaking everything down. I thumbed through the owner's manual before finding this overview and I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed by all of the different features on the camera. Thank you very much for doing this and making the camera a lot less scary.

    Thanks for putting this out for free, Tony (and Chelsea). I know it takes you guys time and money to produce these, so I really, really appreciate it! This is THE best guide I've seen on camera functions, bar none. I will definitely use your amazon link when I buy my grip and extra batteries/charger (I just got my GH5 yesterday and it's a MASSIVE step up from the GH2 and D800 I was shooting with...**MASSIVE**).

    I have been watching a ton of G5 videos and stumbled upon this video by accident. I’m glad I did. Someone in the comments said this is the best G5 video and I have to agree. The fact that you made it free for your audience is just amazing (and turned me into a subscriber!) Than you so much for this video, I have a shoot tomorrow and wanted to learn more about the camera and this video was ultimate. 🙏🏼👊🏼

      Because he jumps all over the topic without any clear structure?

    • @Coopersx1
      @Coopersx1 5 років тому +3

      The GH5's menu system is extensive and and his coverage and explanations are easy to follow. He even points out when he will "cover topics" later in the video when necessary. That way he stays focused on the topic at hand. An Example Would Be:....8:35 sec into the video......after demonstrating how to snap a picture....he states he will discuss the different snap shot modes later in the video. That way the viewer is aware there are more features available (then just snap shot) and helps keep things on track and on point.
      I have found it best to have your camera in hand, and to go through the motions with him as he explains and demonstrates the camera's functions.
      . That is the fastest way to learn your way around the camera. Also have a pen and paper ready so you can jot down notes to refer back to aspects of the system you would like to learn more about. A table of contents menu for this video may have be helpful, but that would have had to been ridiculously long given the GH5's menu structure. Having watched this video enough times myself, I now know whats on here and take from it what I need. Excellent video and in my opinion second to none.

    Thanks for the lens recommendations AND how they perform with AF etc. Lots of people say you can adapt *any* lens but leave off two important considerations: 1. The camera's ability to interact with the lens - AF OR other issues and 2. provide guidance as to which lenses make the most sense and why. I have owned the Lumix FZ1000 (fixed lens) for years and DON'T own any lenses so I need guidance in choosing focal lengths, native and third party lenses and the pros and cons of these choices so I end up with a lens ecosystem that makes sense now and for the future - esp as 3? new mounts have been introduced in just the past year. I have learned that regardless of MFT's future (2020) this sensor delivers the best IBIS, 4K 60fps, no overheating, and excellent still + video quality, great battery life, and "acceptable" AF - and when better AF is needed there is nothing to stop a person from using a second camera in situations that demand great AF like Canon M50 M6 Mk II RL (for AF & Low light) or Sony A6x00 series.

  • @SchipkedIT
    @SchipkedIT 6 років тому +1

    Epic tutorial. I'd say the most detailed on this platform and by far the most educational in terms of beginners to mid-level photographers and videographers. Despite me switching out my GH5 for an A7III (a lot of work I want to do is in low-light) this tutorial enabled far more dynamic utilization out of my GH5 during its tenure. Cheers.

    Tony, I was thinking about getting the Metabones Speedbooster and both the Sigma lenses, not for video but for stills. I have a sensor-stabilized GX8 at the moment, what do you think about this setup? Will there be compromises or will I sacrifice something like AF speed or sharpness etc?

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  7 років тому +1

      Sharpness is great but AF speed is not. Be sure to get the .71X speed booster if you go this route.

    wow Tony. I'm lucky a found you inadvertently tonight. After a long night of searching for GH5 tutorials with no really satisfaction, I landed here. I just bought the S1H and had a bit of a change of heart with all the big money and it was perhaps to much camera for me so I picked up the GH5 to try it. So tomorrow is a day of testing and after watching your video. I'm feeling positive about sending the S1H back and getting into it with the GH5. Looking forward to more from you and now going to watch your Review Video with more about auto focus and focus which was first off what I was looking for. Great Job. Thank you again. Tom

    Is it worth purchasing the GH5 over the G80. I’m no camera expert and currently just film myself training golf direct to camera. Everything up to now is done on auto but using an old cannon camcorder.
    Not sure whether as it’s just me on my own filming I could get the most from the GH5 and thus thought the G80 might be good enough.
    Any thoughts would be much appreciated

    This video has been invaluable so far so thanks for that. I am watching 3-4 times so I understand everything. Wondering of this camera has the proper software. ISO will not go above 6400. There are no other higher numbers. Also can not select variable frame rates. Those words are dim on the menu and if you press on them it says THIS MENU ITEM CANNOT BE SET. The recording format and quality is set to VFR available.

    Love my GH5. Use it professionally for stills and occasional video as it has the best usability of any camera I've ever used. Got a GH3 for video years ago and ended up leaving Nikon because it was surprisingly good for stills with good lenses. Can't stand the clunky DSLRs anymore or the complete lack of progress from Canikon. Considered Sony but no flip screen. GH5 works for me. Thanks for the interesting guide.
