- The 25th Uttarakhand Foundation Day was held at IMS Unison University along with DIT University and Valley of Words. The celebration began with a beautiful rendition of the song, ‘Uttarakhand Devbhumi Matribhumi’ by a first year BBA student, Jahnvi. Written by Hemant Bisht, with music by the noted Uttarakhandi folk musician Narendra Singh Negi, the dulcet tone of the song accompanied the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries. Chief amongst them was an eminent personality from Uttarakhand - Dr Sanjeev Chopra, a retired IAS, ex-director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, an author and the director of the foremost literary festival in Uttarakhand, Valley of Words.
A captivating keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Chopra and he quoted from his book, We, the People of the States of Bharat: The Making and Remaking of India's Internal Boundaries, to suit the occasion of Uttarakhand’s statehood. He also spoke of the 8th edition of the Valley of Words, which will take place on 16th and 17th of November in Dehradun, and where both DIT University and IMS Unison University students are undertaking book discussion sessions.
Faculties from the Department of English of DIT and from the School of Liberal Arts of IMS Unison University presented snippets from the books and encouraged the audience to join this one-of-a-kind, international literature and arts festival. This was followed by intellectual activities by the Abhivyakti Club members of IMS Unison University, including a fun quiz and a riveting face-off over gains or losses with Uttarakhand’s statehood.
The audience and dignitaries alike were enthralled by the Garhwali dancers from Sanskriti Club who put up a great show in their authentic costumes and synchronized dance steps. The Honb’le Vice Chancellor of IMS Unison University, Dr Anil S. Paila graced the occasion and applauded the students for hosting such a well-structured and impassioned programme.
