The first 3 theories about the Colombo murder are passed off as fact in so many books and videos. He really gives a really comprehensive look at the theories behind the Colombo mud er. I have to tell you for a Brit you are extremely well versed in the life. You do great research. When I was a little boy my mother's best friend was Syrian and Sammy was very close to her. Her son at the time and I were best friends and he called Sammy, Uncle Sammy. I remember going to his house which was just a few blocks away from mine, he had cast on his leg and they told he had broken his leg. A Few years later they tried to hit him again and chased him up the block towards 3rd Ave. There was an ice cream parlor on the corner called Zips. There were still bullet holes in the framing of the window 20+ years later. Sammy eventually died peacefully in his bed several years ago. Keep up the great content !!!

@@OCSHORTZ What people forget, is that earlier, Columbo and an associate were arrested and Columbo was brought before a Grand Jury. When asked about a large book from the Italian American Civil Rights, with names, dates and dollar amounts, asked about a $30,000 donation from 'Carl'. Asked who is 'Carl', Columbo, instead of keeping quiet, said 'Carlo Gambino'.
      Automatic death sentence.
Don Carlo was arrested (publicly) right after Columbo opened his mouth.
Can't deny that this was a sanctioned hit by Don Carlo, using Gallo as a pasty.
While Gallo WAS crazy, he was not stupid. He HAD to have known that just going up and whacking Columbo would not get him control of the family, but killed. So, that too tells us that the hit was sanctioned by someone with authority, AND that the other bosses were tired of Columbo being public and his provoking law enforcement.

The shooter (Johnson) definitely had that marginal, wannabe, frustrated personality that could do something like this. I find it interesting, however, that the police couldn't put their finger on Chubby. They were all around Johnson and Chubby comes up, shoots him three times and escapes? The police couldn't find the woman either? It's fun to speculate.

Yes, it is the escaping part that is puzzling. Police were all around Lee Harvey Oswald too when Jack Ruby walks up to Oswald and shoots him point blank. Of course escaping was out of the question, the shooting took place inside the police building. Then again, police headquarters was no problem for Arnie, The Terminator! Robert Kennedy's shooter was easily caught. Even Sqeaky Fromme couldn't get away after firing a wayward missile in a crowd.
Why was Rossillo allowed to escape? Hey, with Johnson dead and his shooter gone too it saved NY taxpayers a lot of money! :>) Carlo Gambino was the real winner with EVERYBODY (including Colombo) out of the picture now (no Johnson pun intended)!

This was a government hit. They were tired of Columbo picketing them pretending to be an Italian Rights organization. The government recruits guys like Johnson. They have no friends and nobody will miss them. How would he get a press pass? He was too dumb to figure out who Joe Columbo was so he needed the woman to identify him. The government knew he would get killed, which is what they wanted. If he somehow escaped, he would easily be discredited in court and given a life sentence.

Make a video of the recent killing a few years back of alleged Gambino boss Frank Cali. They say it was just a crazy random guy, but I feel there could be more to it. Not much has come out since, and that kid still sits in prison untouched, which is a shocker to me. Either that, or it just talks volume regarding the state of the mob today.

It seems unbelievable to me that the police couldn't make a case against Chubby for shooting Jerome, especially since Jerome was in police custody. It is almost as though they didn't want to make a case against him, and that Chubby knew he would be able to get away with it. Why else would anyone shoot someone in police custody? Chubby wouldn't be the only bodyguard who betrayed his boss. It happened to Carmine Galante 8 years later.

Another one was Butch Blasi, the bodyguard of Sam Giancana. Shot his boss in the back of the head in his own basement while he stood frying food for the man who was his guest, bodyguard, and longtime friend. Although apparently he couldn't do the 6 posthumous shots in Sam's mouth, so Johnny No Nose Difronzo and another (who had been waiting outside to make sure Butch did the job) went in and delivered the final shots. The Johnny No Nose element of this story is debatable to. He was a grunt at the time. But Butch is widely accepted to have been the primary shooter.

Using Johnson would obviously implicate Gallo. That's exactly what Colombo's enemies wanted people to believe. Gallo wasn't stupid, that's exactly why I believe he had nothing to do with it. John Gotti's enemies used bombs to destroy some of his family members so that everyone would think it was Zips (Italian Italians) behind it instead of the Genoveses and Luccheses. Bombs were the Zips' weapon of choice.

Gambino was planning on hitting Colombo, but Johnson beat him to the punch.
Gambino was probably planning on making Joe disappear in a quiet way with trusted associates.
I think when Johnson hit Joe; Carlo panicked because everyone knew he was mad at Colombo, so he actually visited Joe at the hospital a few days later to show his support to Joe's family and take away suspicion away from him.
So it means Colombo's days were numbered either way; Johnson only extended Joe's life for 7 years, while Gambino would have not missed when it was his turn to hit Joe.

    • @alexf9381
      @alexf9381 Рік тому

I realize this comment is old but just want to point out, I really don't think that's the case that Gambino wanted Colombo dead. There is actually footage of Carlo Gambino rushing to the hospital to visit Colombo soon after he was shot in 71. The much used footage of Gambino entering his car while ignoring new reporters (that many mob documentaries show) is footage of him leaving the hospital late that same night after spending hours at Colombos bedside.
