At 10:02 I actually prefer the old ones where it actually shows the map than just a table. This new look of the TCR is indeed an improvement but the old look will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing.
I am glad I am not the only one who liked the old material even the footprint maps. the one thing I did not like the the old was the self-pronouncing text. I get that it probably helped a lot of people, especially back when literacy levels were down. I also liked the archeological section, but I am not mad it is gone. I have several old TCRs and a few of the new.
It is ironic that my Bible buying excursion the last year was due to looking to update my Kirkbride. After buying about 15 different Bibles some which I have kept and many I have given away, I still keep coming back to the TCR. I love the handy size NIV I have but in my fantasy world I long for a leather handy size NASB. Until then all the TCR’s I have both old and new will remain with me. I love the TCR because a reader can do serious study without having a study Bible that is skewed toward any particular theology.
Awesome! That's similar to how I started Bible Buying Guide in 2011. My TCR font was too light and small. Plus, I wanted better paper. Now, we have the exact TCR I wanted in 2011.
I like the revised KJV calfskin Thompson Chain, but I'm glad I also have the older version, bonded leather in the NASB 77, since although beautiful, I miss some of things in the back of the Bibles that have changed.
I just bought this in the thumb index version, in the calfskin cover. I've always wanted a nice Bible. I own the Kirkbride Bible from 1986 or 87, in red and black. I need the covers repaired, or replaced, and the binding fixed.
Just got my large print in bonded leather which having both premiere collection and leathersoft editions of many bibles, are very well put together! I'll take the European bonded with the synthetic liner over a leathersoft with paper paste down any day although I do understand the TCR leathersoft editions have synthetic liners too. The bold large print is stunning and very readable. The chain references are that much easier to glean as well. The four column layout is balanced so we'll, I'll be enjoying and learning from this for years. May retire the KJV giant print thinline premiere I have!
Thank you I too think the glossary should not have been removed I too hope they add it back in. There is a font difference between the Cowhide and the Goatskin Cow Hide used 10.5 if you go with the Large-print comfort print where as the Goatskin is only 9.5 I was a bit disappointed in that I would have went with the Goatskin if it was not for that.
I also own the regular, and large print kjv, and the nkjv regular size, in bonded leather and brown leather look. I also own a small kjv, and nkjv, that I keep in my truck, for when I travel, or go to appointments. That's so, I can read basically anywhere. I only take notes in one Bible. I read a few chapters in the kjv in the morning, and the same chapters in the nkjv in the evening, before I go to bed.
I like the newer Thompsons, I have the NKJV but haven't used it much because it is red letter and the red letter was terrible. I've sort moved away from study and reference Bibles and have only been using text only Bibles so that I can focus on the text of scripture. I may try to get the ESV edition when it comes out, but then again I might not because only the premier collection will be all black letter text. It really does look good though and you have done an excellent job at showing these Bibles.
@@BibleBuyingGuide Thanks for your response, and thank you so much for all of the Bible reviews -- I love them :) There is an upcoming (3/7/23) Thomas Nelson Bible yet to be released on Christianbook with the title "KJV Super Giant-Print Reference Bible, Comfort Print--genuine leather, black" I would like to see reviewed :)
Hey Randy I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to use the Digital Thompson Chain Reference on Olive Tree??? I bought it recently and found it to be quite difficult to navigate l!
I love the TCR with the exception of the heft. I have small hands so my leather NASB is so wide that it is not portable. Ironically I fell in love with it because I picked up an old hardcover NIV and was amazed by the study aids. I loved it because it WAS smaller. I just don’t like NIV and I wanted a NASB. I hate the large type in my current TCR.
The black letter has goatskin, overcast stitching, and 36gsm paper. The red letter has 30gsm paper and is available in hardcover, imitation leather, bonded leather, cowhide, and calfskin.
I don’t really know if I’d spend that much money for that, maybe a regular TCR Bible in that cover. Do you know if they are planning on doing one with the regular TCR layout with that leather cover? Also good Bible review!
Currently, the TCR is only available in the 77. When they do produce the Comfort Print update, it will either be the 95 or 2020 (they haven't told which). The 77 will remain in print in its current form even when they update the NASB to Comfort Print.
Question why are some of the verse numbers in red print even though it’s not a paragraph some verses are in red print and some verses are not in red print can you explain this
Hi William. Those that I've seen in the text are to indicate the beginning of a paragraph. Is there something else you're referring to? Can you give an example?
I have both as I don’t like bonded leather but got one as I found it for a price that made it something I couldn’t pass up. It is black bonded with silver gilding and is beautiful. I will gift it to someone at some point. I bought leather soft for me which is nice also and oddly cost me more but since it was not leather , I felt more comfortable marking in it. The other was too beautiful to mess up with notes and hi lighters.
Sometimes, but only with new Bibles. We had a huge giveaway last year with over $1400 worth of Bibles and software. We usually do a few smaller giveaways throughout the year, but we haven't been able to do one this year. I keep the review copies to answer questions and do comparisons.
After zondervan bought Thompson chain-reference they gutted the Thompson chain-reference and they took things away out that are not even there and the things they took away that's the things that they like in the Bible the Thompsons chain it had archaeology and maps, in all the original Thompson's chain I wouldn't buy a zondervan, if you're going to buy a Thompson chain-reference at least buy a 4th or 5th edition if not one of the original Thompson chain, if you really look at the zondervan you do know they took things out and change things in that nice Bible but I wouldn't buy a zondervan by the original Thompson's chain.
The things I do not like in bibles are. Yap bibles. Led letter Bible are to distracting. Notes that try to push us one way or another. No Concordance except a tiny one. I like the Thompson Chain except for the red lettering and concordance. Hopefully they will consider one without the red lettering, well, one can hope.
The goatskin edition is black letter. I'd like to see black letter in the lesser expensive covers. Here's my review of the goatskin: ua-cam.com/video/nfZRloSrjmk/v-deo.html

Hi Ryan. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you Randy 😊! I wonder if they would ever do a Handy size Premier?
Unfortunately, they don't plan to do the Premier in handy size or large print.
Just purchased the Large print Thompson thumb indexed and non thumb indexed amazing Bibles!!!

I did order a new NIV handy size TCR as I was able to get a new copy on Amazon for a giveaway price.
That brown leather at 2:25 is beautiful! Are there any other Bibles they make with it?
The NKJV TCR large print is available with that cover. There’s a link to it in the video review part 1.
I bought the comfort print with this cover. I love it. When I finish reading the old testament, I'm going to use this to study topics.
Thank you,Randy🌹🌹🌹🌹
hi. what's the difference between Black Letter & Red Letter Editions?
The black letter has goatskin, overcast stitching, and 36gsm paper. The red letter has 30gsm paper and is available in hardcover, imitation leather, bonded leather, cowhide, and calfskin.
I don’t really know if I’d spend that much money for that, maybe a regular TCR Bible in that cover. Do you know if they are planning on doing one with the regular TCR layout with that leather cover? Also good Bible review!
Thanks! Which leather are you referring to?
@Bible Buying Guide Any of the leathers mostly, maybe the purple one. I’d like to get on for my daughter, but just in a standard format of the TCR.
Thank you Randy! Is the cowhide less floppy than the goatskin Premier version? Thank you😊
They're about the same. The main difference is the goatskin is thicker.
@@BibleBuyingGuide Oh okay, but the cowhide is easier to bring to church; better for carrying and holding. I've got smaller hands.
@@peterpascone6942 the cowhide is excellent. That's actually the one I use.
Brother perhaps I missed it it wasn’t paying attention but what is the footprint of the regular size?
It's 6 7/8 x 9 7/8 x 1 7/8″
So the Premier Edition Doesnt come in Red Letter?
Correct
Randy what is the difference between the 1977 and 1995 NASB Bibles and does the TCR Bible in the 1995 edition?
Currently, the TCR is only available in the 77. When they do produce the Comfort Print update, it will either be the 95 or 2020 (they haven't told which). The 77 will remain in print in its current form even when they update the NASB to Comfort Print.
Does the comfort print have paragraph markers
Question why are some of the verse numbers in red print even though it’s not a paragraph some verses are in red print and some verses are not in red print can you explain this
Hi William. Those that I've seen in the text are to indicate the beginning of a paragraph. Is there something else you're referring to? Can you give an example?
What is your opinion of covers for the handy size? Leather soft or bonded leather?
I've only seen the handy size in bonded leather but compared with the regular edition, I think I prefer the Leathersoft. Both are good, though.
I have both as I don’t like bonded leather but got one as I found it for a price that made it something I couldn’t pass up. It is black bonded with silver gilding and is beautiful. What is the gsm of the large print cakfskin?
Hi Fred. It's the same 30gsm as the other editions. The only one that's different is the Premier Collection (36gsm).
Do you know what translation is next for the revised edition?
Yes. NKJV. It's scheduled for next May.
Awesome review! Can you give me a link to that exact brown calfskin leather Bible
