I bought my first Thompson Chain back in 1973, and at that time their premium Bible cost $90. I was so happy with this Bible that I gave both my Father and Sister a copy. When I saw this edition I was shocked with joy. The larger font and the use of colors to enhance the division in the Bible. This update is truly a blessing.
I'm glad it's black letter. Glossary terms in the margins would make this a perfect TCR for me, though. That's one of my favorite things about the Westminster.
Serif font was very important… it looks great! I hope they keep that for the NKJV & NASB. I also really hope they include the footnotes in the NASB. I use them all the time in my NAS77 TCR. I think it would actually be a deal-breaker for me if they weren’t included. Thank you for the review. The paper and print looks phenomenal!
Hiya Randy. The Thompson chain is my all time favorite bible. I was very excited when I heard that Zondervan was going to redo it and clean it up a bit. I had my heart set on the kjv releasing in November with the premium edition as well, as I wanted their new comfort print. I was hearing before the release that they were removing the archaeological supplement, translator notes and the tress of life I believe, as well as, the red letter edition and maybe more subtractions too. I was very disappointed that so much has been removed. The big one was no red letter, which, is a big thing for me. Maybe they will put it in this edition later on, here's hoping! By the way you do a great job in your presentations! Thank you!
Thank you Randy for such a wonderful review! Yeah, I was looking forward to this coming out. But it does bother me that they did not include a glossary or annotations
@@BibleBuyingGuide another reason why the box it comes in is the best case for it is because if you put a bible in a carrying case, it will weaken the spine over a long period of time so, while the case might protect the cover, it weakens the spine. whereas the box the bible originally comes in, doesn't do that.
This Bible vs the open Bible? Which one is best? If Thompson chain reference is better than I will wait till I can get the NASB95 version coming out towards end of the year October.
I personally prefer the Thompson. It has much less theological bias and I like the topics in the margins. The Open Bible has a good index, but it almost feels separate from the biblical text.
@@Giancarlo_1997 no, I mean it's not integrated into the text like the TCR's topics are. The Bible text in the Open Bible is a reference edition that doesn't link to the index in any way. The only thing in the text are a few study notes, that is also a separate tool from the index.
@@Giancarlo_1997 it's actually great for sermons and Bible study. I just prefer the Thompson's approach. Instead of having theological definitions in the tools, it just provides lists of verses on each topic. This allows Scripture to interpret Scripture as non-biased as possible. Great review! This is off topic but I know in your reviews that you talk about preaching. I was just wondering if you have some of your preachings online to view?
Is the 5th edition still the same with this new bible? I know it states its been revised and updated. Great review Randy! You mentioned that the KJV doesn't include translation footnotes. Do you know if the upcoming NKJV edition will have the full translation footnotes?
Would you do a comparison between this Bible and the most current Church Bible publishers platinum with red letter? I can only get one but both are contenders. I am leaning towards CBP due to red letter but can't decide.
Hi John. I'm not sure I can get that one, but I'll try. They haven't provided review copies in a while. I did compare the Zondervan edition to the Kirkbride text block (the same block that CBP uses) in part 2. I do prefer the Zondervan editions to the Kirkbride: ua-cam.com/video/K5heJJa3WhI/v-deo.html

to me, the best case to put any bible in is the box it comes with, if already comes with one like the Premier Collection bibles do.

Is this available yet at retail? I checked Amazon but I don’t see any new comfort print TCR KJV Bibles. Thanks!
It's currently on preorder. It will start shipping in the next week or so.
Great review as always. Thank you for doing it. Did you notice (at 7:56) that on the introduction of the New Testament page it says it’s red letter?
Good catch. For $270 bible this mistake should not be in there
i've seen plenty of reviews of the TCR and i still can't find an explanation of the difference of the "black letter" and the "red letter"
Red letter generally means ‘words of Christ in red’; black letter means all Scripture are black letters.
Big thank you…!!! ;-)
Thanks!
Is the paper in this like the a longprimer with 36gsm?
The TCR's paper is slightly whiter and slightly rougher, but just barely. The thickness feels the same.
Where is the table for weights and measures? I can’t find it anywhere.
Hmm. Good catch. I'll check with Zondervan on this.
Here's Zondervan's response:
The KJV TCR is missing the table of weights and measures. This will be corrected in reprints.
