The problem is that the questions don't seem to be written by professional question writers. They seem like that some have been written by a person with low GCSE English grade.
You know far more about life in the UK than I do about life in Austria. Well done on passing your mock test; you'd be an asset to the UK if you took it for real. Keep the vids coming.
I have only just found your channel and this is the second video I have watched. I was very surprised to find out you are Austrian as I thought you were American! I have enjoyed both videos and look forward to seeing more and dipping into previous vlogs when I have time x
I personally think you'll qualify easily your enthusiasm for the British way of life and love of all of our history gives you 100 percent 👍welcome to your new home 👍
The proofreading in this test is appalling - not only 'What composer' but 'Jessica Enis', when her surname is 'Ennis-Hill', and 'henman' needs a leading capital. Are you sure this is legit?
I'm pretty certain that this is not an actual official citizenship test so proof reading was probably never a consideration. Also, Her name WAS Ennis prior to getting married so the test would just pre-date that.
As a Brit I took the test for fun but found that some of the answers were incorrect or ambiguous. Perhaps the questions were set by someone whose knowledge was somewhat lacking in education!
As long as you know how a queue works and you jeer and clap when someone drops a glass in the pub, then you’re golden. A few bloodys and blimeys and you’re native.
If Vanessa is not a native English speaker, she has the best non-native English I've ever heard. Perhaps Nabokov's would have surpassed, but not many's would.
Was there ANY kind of memorials today (29th December 2020), as it's 80 years since the longest night of the blitz in London, over 100,000 bombs (mostly incendiaries to light up main targets) and produced the 2nd great London fire. RIP to all whom died in the blitz, and gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can have the freedoms we have today. Lest we forget.
I don't know what the pass mark is, but I was born in the UK and I am not sure I would have passed that test. I didn't see the relevance of a lot of of those questions to being specifically British.
I used to work in the recycling department sorting the recycling out by hand, so getting ppl to do there own recycling does save the local councils and government lots of money so I would say technically you were right on that question but the government aren't going to say that on a test 🤣🤣🤣
I would agree with this. Recycling doesn't save the council money, but it makes them money. Again, these questions are poorly worded. They don't appear to be written by a professional question writer.
Laughed at how you said 50/50 would be no help in the Olympic question when you had to give 2 answers & there was only 4 options It would of been the perfect lifeline
Brilliant! But Question 12 asks where slaves mainly came from during the slave trade. What has that to do with the UK? The UK never had a slave trade or slaves.
Well done, even if you don’t actually need to do it 👍😀. My partner recently passed this test “for real” (he is from Mainland China) at his first attempt - you have to pay £50 each time it is attempted, but may attempt it multiple times if required. He had done some study for it, as obviously there are cultural differences as well as pretty obscure historical data to absorb, but I think about 9/10 years living in the UK so far, initially as a post-graduate student, has familiarised him with British “culture”, so it wasn’t particularly hard for him 😀.
I just opened up this video, and haven't watched it, but have to admit that when I tried it, I failed big time! btw....I'm 74, and a long retired businessman, but that didn't help me at all (ignorance is bliss)!!! Ok...now I watched it, and I also would have passed with these questions, but on my test it would have been ludicrous to expect any foreign applicant to have a clue! My massive doubt here is (if this was a millionaire question) my family would be on the streets, as what is now known as 'The 02 Arena' was, ridiculously, built as a temporary venue!
The Romans built steam baths in Britain,, long before that guy opened his steam bath and head massage business. You can still visit a Roman bath in the city of Bath. The Romans rubbed in olive oil before scraping it off again, but they also used scented water. Lye soap, made from wood ash and animal fat had been known in Sumer and Egypt, and it's believed it was actually the Celtic traders who introduced it to the Roman empire. Lye soap was being produced in Britain in the 1200s, and in the 1400s the French were making a soap with wood ash, seawater, and olive oil. Can you believe no-one in Britain thought to wash their hair until this Indian migrant arrived?
To shampoo originally just meant to massage the scalp, not wash the hair. The modern use of the word has changed. Of course people cleaned their hair before that, usually just with water and a louse-comb.
Whoever put the test together is not exactly perfect as you were correct about the grammar on one of the questions. An English citizenship test should be presented in perfect English grammar I’d say. Also, the question in relation to the landmark built to celebrate the millennium really should have had 2 correct answers as the 02 arena was also built for the celebrations and originally named The Millennium Dome. Well done you anyway as you did brilliant. By the way, The Bayeux Tapestry which you were correct in selecting its location as being in France is a tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings in 1066. That’s when William the Conqueror invaded England from Normandy, France. The tapestry is in a museum in the town of Bayeux, Normandy. It is Amazing to see and runs around the inside walls of a very large room. It also shows the appearance of Halley’s Comet which appeared in the night sky during the battle. Thanks for the video and again, well done on the pass.
Hello, regardless of your settle status, you will have to take this test if you decide to apply for the British citizenship. As for most of the questions (and answers), I've forgotten 99% of them after 2 weeks. Mostly useless information in my opinion. Take care!
I know in England a newly qualified driver, has a green P to put on their car, to let other drivers know they have passed in the past year. I don't know if it's mandatory though.
To change that ending and answer the question, what didn't we learn today? Is that Her Majesty's Government is going to screw you out of approx £40 for study materials and £50 a pop for the test and every resit if you need them. All to answer a bunch of question that are more relevant to a not so great pub quiz than they are to the modern day UK. And they even give you the wrong answer on at least one question. Wouldn't mind if the questions were along the vein of that MOT question. If someone is moving to the UK I am going to presume they maybe have an interest in the history, maybe more than most Brits do and are probably going to be doing this on their own time anyway. Personally I think it'd be better to find out if you know what you need to open a bank account for example rather than when the last successful invasion of England was (It was before the act of Union hence England) The question they give the wrong answer for. A good number of those questions had nothing to do with being British. A couple were obvious if you knew one of the multiple answers. However, The hard questions you seemed to Breeze through showing you studied the art of writing on your hand at school really well. Nicely done. Welcome to Britain.

Question 11 is wrong, The O2 was called the Millennium Dome built to celebrant the millennium. So the O2 and the London Eye are the right answer.
Agreed - I would probably have picked that one.
It's not wrong but it feels like a trick question.
The problem is that the questions don't seem to be written by professional question writers. They seem like that some have been written by a person with low GCSE English grade.
Love you sense of humour.

On it's way to invade Britain in July1588. Didn't succeed.
When you apply for British citizenship you have the option of paying for a manual which contains all the information required to pass the test.
It was basically a general knowledge test about England, so well done Vanessa! 👍♥️

The proofreading in this test is appalling - not only 'What composer' but 'Jessica Enis', when her surname is 'Ennis-Hill', and 'henman' needs a leading capital. Are you sure this is legit?
not to mention the gravity one... that was so badly formatted.

Jessica Ennis won an Olympic gold medal.
Jessica Ennis-Hill won an Olympic silver medal. So technically correct.
Also Ennis has two “N’s” not one.
