"Oh no, it better not be the platypus guy"
The platypus guy: and I took that personally
11:10 No, he realized Erwin's biggest dream is to go to the basement and was about to be completed so when Levi wanted him to suicide charge he just accepted his death while armin ( as smart as him) has a lot to live with his dreams. The decision is more of an ending for Erwin than saving Armin tho
Because he remembered Kenny telling him everyone is drunk on something that keeps them going and realized the thing Erwin is "drunk" on is about to be achieved if he is revived and thus he will no longer have the same drive that brought them this far. Levi understands Armins dreams because he heard them talking about it in the alley that night and realizes his ambition is vast and can be the new thing that carries humanity forward.
How Isayama used Floch during the argument was brilliant because he represents the people who fervently want to bring back Erwin; by dehumanizing him at not understanding his feelings. Erwin is famous for his sweeping and epic speeches and strategies but it came at the cost of sacrificing his comrades which ate away at his psyche. It was something he hated about himself and ultimately, he couldn't decide between his dream or finally repenting for the deaths that he caused. His most trusted comrade, Levi, however; was able to make the choice for him. To shoulder the burden from him, to relieve his suffering, and to allow Erwin to face his death with a clear conscious. Wanting to bring back Erwin would be to disrespect him and send him back to that hell.
The reason they can’t go “halfsies” on the titan serum is because one of them still needs to eat bertholt.
Voice acting so good here.
The next episode will change the way you see the show. Get Ready!

Fun fact: Bertholdt was eaten the way Marco got eaten.
Fun fact: Armin is the opposite of Erwin. Erwin's plans sacrifice others while Armin's saves them.
We all fell into Isayama 's trap . He gave us hope and then abruptly took it away . Why did Levi choose Armin ? Forgive me , Erwin fans , but Erwin Smith is a bad , VERY bad person . He 's a great speaker and a mediocre commander . All his "brilliant" plans ended with the corpses of his subordinates, and Erwin did it all not for the sake of saving humanity, but for the sake of his selfish goal, his dream . Unlike Erwin , Armin sacrificed himself and his dream for everyone , Erwin sacrificed everyone for his selfish dream , which he could not give up until the end . We were shown a flashback with Kenny for a reason. I'm not saying Erwin is a villain, but he's not a hero.
I think you underestimate Erwin. Calling him a mediocre commander after it is shown that he surpassed the previous commander, implemented the scouting formation to save scout lives, planned for the enemy to show their cards, and implemented a trap before it was even known that there were other shifters amongst the group. He set the plan and dispatched of Rod's titan without sacrificing anyone. Levi says why he sacrificed Erwin for Armin at the end of the episode. It's a story that blurs the lines between good and bad, so consideration as to what is good and bad is part of the appeal of the story.
Yeah. But in the end of his life, he choose to sacrifice his own life to save others. He is not a very bad person. He is just what others needed, like Levi said it itself. But in the end, he choose to be more than that.
Very well put, except that I would also strongly disagree that Erwin was a mediocre commander. He was in fact superior to Armin in this capacity by all indications, but the main difference between them was his selfish intentions, as you rightly noted. That didn't make him any less effective at reading people and situations and devising brilliant strategies both in advance and in real time.
In fact, Erwin was probably the one person who could have succeeded in anticipating and countering the final course of events in this story, which I will not spoil. Armin's selflessness and pure heart is what ultimately blinded him to the grim reality of what was about to unfold, and prevented him from taking the ruthless course of action that was necessary, which can also be argued was all part of "the plan" anyway.
i’m late but i would agree with the others in this thread. erwin is not a mediocre commander. the scouts purpose is to move forward, to sacrifice their lives for the movement of humanity. erwin is the person who did that. who was able to.
