Your developer is dumb. Do we interact with the website anywhere in this video? You just need access to google search console and Google dev console. You can use this method with any site that is verified in Google search console.

It is completely okay. But still you want to add WWW then talk to hosting provider they will do it for you. But if you want to do it by yourself thn login to the cpanel>visit domain section and now click on the manage option and redirect it. But adding www is not that much important for SEO purposes
