      Because there hasn't been a radical group of revolutionaries who want to completely take over the system through coercion until now. They want to discard anything that doesn't fit their 'utopia'. It'd be one thing if there were votes to decide the Fates of the statues, but no, why would a radical revolutionary who hates his country take part in its political system?

    In his defense (some might say Devil's advocate), he said and I quote "from my personal experience" at 4:53. He does not claim his following statement to be a fact. The majority of the people that he has met, in the South, who wish for slavery and other bad things from history to return. That statement may reflect poorly on him but this is also the course of many years during his childhood and his years before college. The "majority" could mean out of the 100+ people he has socialized with over 18+ years wanted slavery to return. It is highly doubtful that he met hundreds of thousands of people who have that sentiment in the South during that time in his life. Times change and what he may remember right now could be long outdated and mostly irrelevant. This is his personal experience and NOT FACT. No need to grab your torches and pitchforks, Driftor is still Driftor. Take a step back, breathe, and relax a little.

    I live in Texas, and I have lived here all my life. Never had I once seen or heard someone say that slavery was right or they wanted slavery back, I don't know where you are getting this from. And I think the statues remind us of what not to come back to, it reminds us of the horors of the confederacy and reminds us to not go back to that. Thats why I think they should still be up. And for the neo nazis there are a select few of them, not all people who want to keep the statues want slavery back.

      Jack Waters I want to keep the statues and I own a confederate flag, but I am not a racist. A black man helped me grow up and was more of a father to me then my own father and I have nothing but love and respect for him. Heroes from the confederacy, such as Robert E Lee, had flawed opinions, but was also known as a true gentleman and brilliant strategist. I believe its worth honoring these men for fighting for their states, even though they fought for the losing side.

  • @HUGzJayGon
    @HUGzJayGon 7 років тому +1

    The Confederacy was not just about slavery. The South felt that their opinions and votes were outweighed by those of the North. Much like the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War was about gaining fair representation. The Revolutionary War was about colonists seeking proper representation (No Taxation Without Representation). The Civil War was started because Lincoln was elected by votes predominantly from the North. This made the South feel unrepresented in the Federal Government and That is why they attempted to leave the Union and create a State where their voices could be heard. These symbols are less about racism and more about Rebellion and the right for American citizens to rebel against a government that does not properly represent the people. I believe that the right side won the Civil War; but, these symbols of Rebellion are important to society. If we remove all symbols of the Civil War, the People will eventually forget about their right to rebel against a corrupt government.

    Driftor says no one keeps up statues of losers or villans, but conveniently ignores the statue of lenin in our own country. Also if you're saying that the heritage argument isn't valid because how long ago the civil war happened then the whining about slavery isn't valid either.

      Then i dont understand why communism is something negative. I do not think communism is something for our state of society but something to at least think about.

    As someone who lives in the south. I could honestly care less about the statues being in public. I actually like the idea of them being put in museums so those who appreciate them can still cherish their meaning and significance. While I do think it is absurd that people would lash out at history when all these events that they are referring to are over a hundred years old, I would rather them just shut up and get what they want. It keeps them from being covered in graffiti anyways. Have you been to D.C? Its atrocious. Destroying them though, tearing them down? That's wrong. They do have historical significance and teach a lesson. They have heritage attached to them as well. How would people feel if we destroyed all the documents and history around MLK, or Rosa Parks? Exactly. Argument over.

      Appeal to Force fallacy.
      Winning/losing a war does not make your argument correct.
      The Civil War Monuments north and south pay tribute to the soldiers who made the greatest sacrifice they could for the principles they believed in.
      I myself am the descendant of an Ohioan Union soldier wounded in the war.
      I am utterly disgusted that people are advocating taking away monuments built to honor those who fought opposite him on the field of battle. It's just culture warfare by cultural marxists to try to undermine the United States and its classic liberal philosophy in the name of marxist utopianism.

    • @Rymo00
      @Rymo00 7 років тому +8

      Your argument is fundamentally invalid. Youre operating under the belief that these monuments were built in the late-18th century immediately after the civil war, yet a large majority were constructed during times black people were struggling to obtain equal rights. This isnt "cultural marxism", that's completely absurd, no one is trying to deny the confederacy ever happened, they are simply desiring the removal of confederate monuments. The fact that there are states that will not let county governments remove confederate statues is ACTUAL(see: Alabama) cultural marxism- as it pigeonholes the history that people see.

    slavery was wrong, you shouldn't own people, but these monuments are a tribute or reminder to our history, let those monuments remind us of our mistakes and prevent reinstated discrimination. My problem is using flags and monuments as hate symbols, they are colored fabric squares or metal/stone in a particular shape, not an excuse for you and your neo-nazi buddies to lynch an equally entitled american minority citizen. They are statues meant to honor men who fought for what the believed in, what they believed in may not be right, but that ideal is the definition of america. And I'm a right wing catholic.

      very good point, I do see your point of comparison between Hitler and Confederate generals, both types of leaders won over their people and were celebrated by many and fought for inhumane ideas. That may actually be a very good Idea, don't worship them still today but you should still preserve them in such a way as a museum. Thank you for a civil and educating question, this is how all political discussions should be.

    Dwight D. Eisenhower:
    Respecting your August 1 inquiry calling attention to my often expressed admiration for General Robert E. Lee, I would say, first, that we need to understand that at the time of the War Between the States the issue of Secession had remained unresolved for more than 70 years. Men of probity, character, public standing and unquestioned loyalty, both North and South, had disagreed over this issue as a matter of principle from the day our Constitution was adopted. General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America; he was thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, forbearing with captured enemies but ingenious, unrelenting and personally courageous in battle, and never disheartened by a reverse or obstacle. Through all his many trials, he remained selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his belief in God. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history. From deep conviction I simply say this: a nation of men of Lee’s caliber would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the nation’s wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained. Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of this great American on my office wall." And if that doesn't shed a little light on how a "loser" in a war that none of us will ever have to fight, thank God, can still be respected, I'm sure there are many other highly respected Generals and Colonels living today who can. Too bad Gen. Patton isn't here to explain.

    I'm willing to bet that all these people who want these statues GONE could not tell you a single about the CSA. I'm willing to bet 90% couldn't point out the Confederacy's flag. The Civil War was NOT about slavery, Lincoln even said if he could reunite the US without freeing the slaves he would do it. Slavery is just an excuse people use so they can use the race card and say the south was equal to the Nazis. It was also believed that slavery would wear off in the south. And Driftor says that most people with confederate flags want slavery back? What? This is the stupidest argument I've ever heard, sure maybe a small percentage would like slavery back, which is terrible, but he said most? This is my argument, you can have yours and I will respect you if you respect me.

    I too was raised in the South (Georgia and Alabama), and I never was taught anything you were, and I went to primarily private schools run entirely by white families who loved hunting. The pastor who owns the school I went to from 4th till graduation has both the American and Confederate flag displayed on his property, and he never said a single bad thing about blacks. Don't spread the false narrative that everyone who flies a Confederate flag wants slavery to return and that everyone in the South are racist pricks because that's 100% not true. The Confederate flag was a flag of the people before it was a Confederate flag. It was the Stars and Bars flag that was used by the Confederates more than the Confederate flag was. The only reason the Confederates adopted the Confederate flag was because the Stars and Bars too closely resembled the Stars and Stripes in the heat of the battlefield.

    please keep you channel about gaming. I disagree with a lot of the things you have said about the confederate flag and I was going to unsubscribe, but I don't believe that I should if the reason I watch is for the news about call of duty and other games. to know that yet another UA-cam channel is getting caught up in this stupid situation that is crafted and brought about just to cause trouble and conflict is really disheartening, especially since the views you display contradict mine almost completely (in reference to the flag). it really makes me think that we have lost the ability care about one another or things that make us happy. now we just focus on "I'm offended, take it down!", or "you're a 22 year old white male, you no longer get an opinion." (the last quote was said to me by a coworker about a month ago)
    SO, PLEASE, DONT CONTAMINATE THIS CHANNEL WITH POLITICS. you will be splitting your fan base, or even losing them entirely.
    BTW, I am prior military (Army infantry) and to think that I haven't earned my right to hold the only symbol of who I am or where I'm from (proudly so) makes me think that the only thing that's good in this country any more is the fact that meat hasn't been outlawed (yet).

      Dawson Levi Dewese Driftor has always posted on topics of controversies. Are you new to this channel? And just because you disagree with him, doesn't mean you don't still enjoy his other content, so why unsubscribe? Also, the Confederate flag you described is not actually the official flag of the Confederacy. It's not the right flag, nor is it the American flag, at the end of the day, it is the Flag of a Nation that rivaled our own. You can display the Soviet Union's flag, the Imperial Japanese flag, to get the same effect? It may have historical and cultural ties to you, but it is still the flag of, ultimately, traitors (Regardless of intentions/causes).

  • @massi940

    I'd say keep them in museums or in parks, like Driftor mentioned. If you feel so attached to a flag or a monument then maybe you are using it as protection through intimidation, which is not fair... The case of Germany not having Nazi or WWII Wermacht statues is different tho, because there weren't/aren't minorities that these would target, or at least not in the same proportion as black people in the southern states.
    In Italy we still have some monuments and buildings that date back to fascism, but not in institutional buildings and I think that's a good balance

  • @RaddyC

    I'm a northerner who grew up in the south in a very diverse community several miles from a civil war battlefield so I have a decent viewpoint on the issue. I've asked a lot of black guys at work about this and they all said the same thing: they don't care about the statues at all. All the country white guts have said they want the statues up because they represent that their ancestors had the balls to stand up to D.C. even though it wasn't a good cause, it was about pride and rights, not slavery. In other words, the only people who seem to be for their removal are brainwashed leftists who think they're offensive for some reason. And think back to obamas terms in the WH, why was there no movement to remove them back then? A black president in the White House after all, that would have been the perfect time to remove them

    Its like people are ignorant to what you are doing when you remove confederate culture from ours. While yes slavery was horrid we should still honor those who fought for what they thought was right. Those people died believing in their cause and thats what their flag represents. Whenever we remove their flags I feel its like insulting those who died in that period. Why cant people overlook slavery and see the reasons to keep the flags. Oversensitive bastards.

      You do bring up a good point that made me think about what I said, while we shouldn't overlook their crimes we should try to empathize more rather. People forget the north wanted to not abolish slavery but instead restrict it so they could have more room for factories. They also only wanted to remove slavery as a last ditch effort. Removing slavery was a political and economic factor not moral. Also families were split and had to kill each other, that means that relatives and family of the north joined the confederates which shows their just humans like all of us.

    The issue is...it's an important part of our history as a nation and to remove these pieces of it from immediate public eye makes it easier to forget, and if those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Men are both sides sides fought admirably Lee and Grant the most obvious examples. There were no true villains. There was most likely a portion that fought over slavery but the civil war was and still is a complex debate over what exactly started it. It's dangerous to begin this. It may not be striking the names and events from history, but it has the potential to become that over manipulated. I find it best to err on the side of caution and defend the rights of people to have pride in their questionable heritage, to look up to confederate figures and whatever they may want. I may find their ideal abhorrent and disgusting, but I will spill blood fighting for their right to preserve its history.
