    Today I want to talk about The Mandela effect in two different ways. First is the psychological principle of the Mandela Effect which is a real thing. Then I will talk about the crazier trans-dimensional conspiracy theory version of the Mandela effect which will end up getting wayyyyyyyy out there. Gameplay is MWR of course :P

    I learned about this during psychology class. What they told me is that you can manipulate short term memory of any person who does not have telepathic powers, i.e. 99% of us.
    You can input and output false memory to your command. Before the class teacher showed us very colourful art with nearly all colours in it and said that his favorite is green.
    And then showed few mathematical examples and story on pi = 3.14.. number. And he said his favorite number is the sum of three, 8. And then back to psychology.
    Just about towards the end of the class he gave us a paper with question: "write any number and any colour". Mine is - 8 and yellow. But I did not answer that.
    He approached to each of us and asked same question, but very differently.
    And guess what... they were 12 in our class and we all wrote 8 and green.
    That was fucking shocking

    The Mandela effect hit me back in October! As soon as I heard that the Berenstein Bears was spelled "Berenstain Bears" I was like... what that can't be right because I remember it being Berenstein! Stein not Stain! After that I searched up more things like for example Looney Toons is what I remember the cartoon as spelled but it's spelled Looney Tunes. Then I learned this was called the Mandela effect.

    From an academic perspective: I'm studying zoology and conservation and one of the methods we use to help our work is to gain local knowledge. When we're specifically talking to someone about the past we have to take into account the Mandela effect as people tend to naturally tend to sensationalise their past memories. It's theorised that people will often remember their past as something better than it actually was for the sake of their happiness and sanity. It would be interesting to see if this effect is present in other complex species such as chimps although it would be a lifelong effort to see if this was true and you would have to get a relatively large sample size to do so.

  • @GreyWolfLeaderTW

    The Mandela Effect basically is a demonstration of Carl Jung's concept of the Collective Unconscious, which is the idea that because human beings have the same basic biological structure in our brains, we share many basic abstract concepts that we think about and come up with the same basic ideas.
    Examples is that the guy who fears spiders and the guy who fears heights are basically both expressing a basic shared primordial function of human psychology (which is a fear of something dangerous), they simply have slightly different expressions of it.
    So in this case, we have large numbers of people mis-remembering what actually happened in the past, due to the utilizing the same reasoning and memory functions in their brains.

  • @EdwarioERS
    @EdwarioERS 7 років тому +3

    Some of these mispronunciations of names and words like The Berenstain Bears comes from people being more familiar speaking certain syllables they're more familiar with over ones that are unique. Stein is a common suffix at the end last names. A great example of this would be how most people say sherbert instead of sherbet ice cream; there's no R in the word. Furthermore, I have a conclusion about Drift0r regarding his recollections of his fussy memories.
    Drift0r is a Replicant. His actual lifespan goes back only as far as his youtube channel does. He's due to expire any week now.

    • @danielc1375
      @danielc1375 7 років тому +1

      This is exactly the reason. It's such a simple explanation and people choose to take the long and complicated way to understand why. Honestly, how many times have you seen someones last name as Bernstein? Now, how many times have you seen someones last name as Bernstain? I bet you've always seen it as the former and none of the latter, which is why you associate the bears last name as Bernstein.

    Excellent video Drift0r, I really enjoy the philosophical commentaries especially ones like this that challenge viewers. If you're interested in more information on this I HIGHLY recommend watching Brain Candy, it's a UA-cam Red series (makes it worth buying) by Vsauce & he actually dedicated an episode to this sort of subject. He actually made people believe in false memories that he was able to plant in their mind & over time they simply accepted & believed what he was telling them that they had done. It's a pretty scary/interesting subject. Personally I don't think that this huge conspiracy is true but nonetheless, it shows how powerful the human mind is.

    Not sure if it's related and I'm sure some trolls will flock to this. But I was in a bad wreck after driving from New Mexico to my home in Louisville in 23 hours . I was ok for the most part but once I got home I noticed many changes in my town right outside of Louisville that hadn't been there before I asked my friends about the changes and they said they had always been that way. Not sure if I had a concussion and my mind made false memories but I had no signs of a concussion in the hospital. I don't know I believe this this stuff. Driftor, my clan leader and I have had many a sleepless night discussing the M.E. in its entirety. We cannot discount the brain's natural tendency to fabricate memories, change memories, influenced by groups, etc. That is all said and good, but we have arrived at two astonishing revelations: one, there appears to be a fifty fifty break between people that will remember a checklist of the common ME's approximately 80% one way OR 80% the other way. And two, there's generally one or two mind-blowing examples that people have a unique understanding of and are left absolutely flabbergasted, be it they have written a report on it, researched it, constantly exposed to it, etc. Mine was the Coke logo. On a side note, it you can appreciate someone taking the time to shop a lot of the logos back to how we remember them, please message me as I have taken the time to do quite a few of them, and not a shoddy version either.

    I have a theory about deja vu. Maybe deja vu are like dreams in which when you are experiencing a dream you're actually remembering the dream near the end of you sleep, that's why you don't "always have dreams" because you don't always remember them. Do what if deja vu is actually events you have experienced in the future bleeding through to your current time. So maybe is now is just us remembering past events

    For anybody interested, the psychiatry term for an anomaly in memories like this is "confabulation". I just thought it was a cool word so there you go.

    I remember that short Disney animation, Steamboat Willie, where Mickey mouse pulled his suspenders while steering the boat, but it never happened. Also a bunch of stuff like the location of south America or the location of the kidneys. Ton's more but apparently it really is bad memory and confirmation bias. I am really starting to get worried about my memory, it's like early onset dementia, I could never trust my own memory, now I need others to remember for me. Anyways, thank you for solving the Mandela effect, we already know enough about reality that quantum mechanics and the multiverse is impossible.

    I've been following the Mandela Effect for a couple years now because I found it so interesting and couldn't believe that things are actually different than I remember. At first, my memories seemed so real and that I couldn't believe that they could be wrong. However, after years and dozens of these experiences, it started becoming more clear to me that they are, just as you said, false memories. And maybe "false" memories isn't the best word for all cases, but perhaps it would be better to call it perpetuated misinformation. The bible verse you mentioned might not be a real bible verse, but it is a quote that has been perpetuated by both text and word of mouth for a long, long time. Hearing it or reading it somewhere gets you to believe that it is indeed an actual bible verse. I'm working on a big Reddit post that will offer up reasoning and explanation for many of the popular Mandela Effects, although I'm not sure how it will go over because I think people prefer and wish to believe that something supernatural is at work.

      But why do literally millions of people have the exact same misconception? Like with the whole Barenstain Bears thing (what really turned this into a pop culture thing), people legitimately just remember it as Barenstein without any mention of the name beforehand. Someone would just say _Barenstain Bears_ and almost anyone who read those books would say, no it's *_Barenstein_* Bears, even if they had never heard of the Mandela Effect before at all. It just doesn't make any sense.

    Berenstain and Berenstein could also just be chocked up to the cursive writing confusing kids and it just sticking, once you see something like that you just never question that again because it's just small details.
