I'm into my 74 SII for 650! I could get this kit into it and still not be anywhere near new truck prices. Oh, and I'm on collector plates, F.U. emissions man!
I bought a 1979 Scout II new when I was about 20. Great vehicle, but with the 304 engine, it could only do 0-60 in 13 seconds. What a difference an LS could make!
Great job, i did my swap with your kit everything worked and fit perfect, you guys were very helpful and answer all the questions I had also, it is a lot of work to do it yourself so many hrs working on it and researching parts, if I had to do it again I would just have you guys do it for me 17k is worth it. I spent over 20k but it runs great, question; are the roll bar and seat belts included?
Ok, all this sounds good. Power, reliability, and ride all good. Hows the mpg when 5.3 is in a scout ii, on stock dana 44 axles? When compared to weight I've learned my scout ii with a 345 is 3,600#. A 05 chevy extended cab 4x4 is 5,000#. The 5.3 has got to be performing better in the lighter scout...
Indeed. There are a lot of factors weight, gears, tires, aero, drivetrain drag, how heavy your foot is... But typically we see in the teens with these trucks.
anything scout awesome thank you, my uncle was on the design team for most of the IH vehicles so he's used mine as an experimental vehicle so it's always a bit difficult to diagnose a problem
Pretty much any Scout II (71-80) works if you don't have to worry about passing emissions in your state. And from there, its grill preference and if you want an auto or manual try to find the correct one so you don't have to swap pedals and shifters.
I have a 1966 Scout do you have a need for a full top, transfer case, transmission or axels. I am going to be doing a project may not need some of those things?
my Scout has Dana 30 out of a Jeep Wagoneer I think a 1967? much wider than the old Dana 27 if you have time check out my concept vehicle 1966 Scout chief I have been building in my THINK thanks for getting back with me 👍 FINS UP 👍
I understand you are trying to sell a service or kit to people but implying that the stock SV engine is unreliable just doesn't make any sense. I currently own 4 Internationals ranging from 1969 to 1973 all with their original engines. That's close to 200 years of combined reliability just in my driveway.
Not saying the SV is unreliable, as many of us at the shop own Scouts with the original drivetrains and enjoy them and we take them on trips around the country. But they certainly require more attention and maintenance than a modern engine. Just built for a different type of ownership and expectation. Not saying one is right or wrong, just different.
Trying walking into oriellys or Auto Zone and buying shit for those Engines. Oh you can't? Oh ok. LS is cheaper, more reliable and can get parts everywhere.
I'm 15 and I'm tradeing my 1st gen dodge for a 1977 scout to daily drive for high school and around the farm I live on and wherever I need to go besides that
Antonio, Please do your $5k swap....then let us know when it's done and we'll compare fit and finish, quality of parts, and how it drives. It takes a lot of time and work to run and grow a business. To pay your guys well and do quality work. It doesn't help anyone to make false claims about how much work or parts it takes to do a quality job and stand behind it. Look forward to seeing one of your $5k swaps...maybe you'll prove us wrong
The 5.3 was never technically referred to as an "LS" engine. Rather, it was referred to as LM7, L59 or LM4, depending on the specific configuration. While the 5.3 is based on the the LS architecture, it is not an "LS" engine by definition. As a former Scout II owner, I really appreciate this build. But because I'm also a former LS owner ('99 1LE LS1 Camaro and '09 Z51 LS3 Corvette), I take exception to the use of the "LS" designator here.
Mad respect for keeping these great trucks on the road and like you said in another video, once an owner you always look back on the Scouts fondly.
I had to sell mine back in the early 80's. Had dreams about it for years.

0:36 , "a decent all around starter truck" you have offended my scout
I love the height, I can just tell that thing glides full way through a trail 😍

Thats a great memory for sure! And yes what a difference it makes haha!
Your 304 isnt running right. Cam 0-80350 Holley and you can out torque a 5.3 0-4000 rpm.
Cut send cut is your best friend. A full swap kit costs less than 600 bucks with all kinds of cool reinforcements.
That's really awesome when you compare 20k to the average cost of a new Chevy Colorado without a V8. Sick work!
Not bad conversion. You can put any kind of engine in that can fit in the Scout. Great job
I have a 71 scout ii im maybe considering ls swapping for daily driving
Man you guys are awesome!! That's what I need!

The roll bar is not something that is included in the base swap, but is a very common add for our in-house builds.
You got a great deal! All I would do is get a new paint job and new interior.
How about a 1978 Scout with a 426 Hemi Blown also full off road suspension?
Beautiful modification.
If that is what gets you behind the wheel and keeps the truck driving, then have at it!
Sorry so many questions - what size lift and wheels and tires does this have? Trying to gauge for mine.

It still sounds as LOUD inside the cabin as the original did! LOL
I love the scout..
Ive got 1968 800b with 48,000 miles on it and my father was the original owner. Where could i find some old repair manuals
We have them available on our website... anythingscout.com
anything scout awesome thank you, my uncle was on the design team for most of the IH vehicles so he's used mine as an experimental vehicle so it's always a bit difficult to diagnose a problem
Chiltons 1968 manual eBay is your friend
Great Video!! This would be an amazing first vehicle for my son!! Is there one particular year to look for that works best for this conversion?

I just bought a 1965 scout 80. Could I do this LS conversion?
Yes, however, it is a bit more complicated of an install to make it all work and fit in an 80.
@@anythingscout thanks! How can i reach you to talk about this swap? I have a few questions.
Shoot over an email to parts@anythingscout.com
@@anythingscoutok will do!! Thanks!
7-8k in parts Charge 11-12k for install and takes 2 months? Least you’re honest about it. Big festool supporters though I assume
$17,000 for a 5.3 swap 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 $10,000 if u do it your self😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a 72 Scout I got the title but how do I know it s really a 72.I know some change the grill.is there other numbers? Thanxs
If the VIN on the title matches the VIN on the truck, you can be pretty sure it's a 72.
I have a 1966 Scout do you have a need for a full top, transfer case, transmission or axels. I am going to be doing a project may not need some of those things?
Hey Eric, we would be interested in the hardtop. Shoot us an email if you decide to sell it.

OK...it's 2021...is this still being done for $17K? How do I sign up?
Unfortunately not. This was the first and last video we mention price. We learned our lesson.
Very nice. But I'll stick with my 4 liter Cherokee for fraction of the price!
rich fancy city boys

I'm 15 and I'm tradeing my 1st gen dodge for a 1977 scout to daily drive for high school and around the farm I live on and wherever I need to go besides that
I've got a 73 scout 2 but man they are awesome
trading..........
Is that $17k plus parts cost?
Hey Corey,
That includes a used engine, transmission, transfer case and everything to integrate it and make it run and drive.
Fucking how much lmao. Rip off.
1/4 of that.
$17,000 and its a used engine, should be a $5000 job.

I'm still happy with my 304.
But I do realize you guys do more than an engine swap.
youre very smart
Ever hear of a thing called labor?
Probably is counting the labor but stealing the engine.

Why not just get a Tahoe, if your gonna do all that.
Nope.
Dude the dash. I ruined that vintage look
What borgeson box did you upgrade to?
We installed a rebuilt power steering box and replaced the steering column joints with borgeson joints. We have them list on our website.
anything scout can you do a video on the steering upgrades?
