Not getting where you think he should be going deeper to the "touch point" with the dumbbells. You taught me that rotates the rotator cuff out of the socket to an un-natural position and then loads it with too much weight. He is kinda doing what you used to teach isn't he by not going that deep ?
Shannon takes his meals with him cause he always says, "When you go to a restaurant or cafeterias, they cook for a group of people. In my kitchen I'm cooking just for me." He knows exactly what's in it and doesn't have to guess.
Its funny that a guy who is in the top 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% cannot be given the benefit of the doubt that he has top 0.0000001% genetics

Shannon trained at a speed and agility facility that I worked at. This was around 2004. I’ve worked out with many NFL players during my time in the field, and Shannon maybe trained the hardest. He did sprint/footwork/plyo/agility work and lifted weights, nearly every day in the off-season. I believe him when he says he is clean. He just never stopped and has a ridiculous work ethic.

I really like Jeff's approach to this format. He does the critique and the analysis but he also brings the recognition that people are dealing with different limitations and injuries and explains that there's good reasons oftentimes for doing movements that others might say are less than optimal
I'm just going out on a limb here, there was alot of disagreement between Jeff and Shannon, now I'm just curious as to see how I watched this video wrong because I haven't actually done anything else, and if there's one thing I've learnt from Jeff, its I did do something wrong😂😂😂
Shannon's comment about the locker room and the shared experience wasn't about enjoying the process or the grind per se. It was about going through it with other people. Jeff himself mentioned the camaraderie he felt as a trainer (23:59) for the Mets as a key factor in his being successful and enjoying the process while it was happening and not, as in this video, as somebody looking back philosophically years later. Get yourself a workout buddy, a workout coach, or start mentoring somebody in the gym. It will make the process SO much more rewarding and easier to be consistent with. The sum is greater than the parts when you work out with somebody who shares your goals. Shannon helped the Broncos win their first Super Bowl when I was 13 and living two hours from Denver. He was one of my sports gods. His biceps seemed unreal but were very motivating for an 8th grader just discovering the weight room. Thanks for this video, Jeff.
I was in the best shape of my life when working out with the other defensive backs and track guys like myself. There were 5 or 6 of us who did both. Year round training. When I lost that, and life's challenges came, I veered. I am not disciplined enough to do all that I was doing with those guys, on my own. At least not right now. I am drawing motivation (know every workout that I need to do and have every piece of equipment I need right in my training room), just a mental hurdle I have to clear since setting up my new house earlier this year. Don't ever want to be as jacked as Shannon. I'm 45 and 5'10" 220 right now. Don't really need to lose anything. I carry it mostly power half and wouldn't even want to be much below my previous ideal of 217. 210 lowest. I'm not terribly off the mark, because some people would look at me and wonder what I'm complaining about. Those who worked out with me would wonder what happened in the last 25 years LOL

There are certainly outliers out there, genetic freaks. Last week I saw a kid probably 16-17, across the street, while I was sipping on in a tea shop in Turkiye. The kid was about 6,2, wearing a tank top and shorts, I could tell he wasn't a gym goer, but he had muscular shoulders, calves almost to the point of someone who had been training at least 6 years natural, and his arms were as structured as many can not get in a couple of years. It was very obvious to me that he didn't lift, and it was the first time I saw someone with such a freaky genetic displayed through their muscular structure to the point, I thought of approaching him and sponsoring him for the rest of his life for the next 10 Mr. Olympia wins, but than I realized I am broke and will be broke. :))) (been a gym rat my self for so long, I always observe people, and this kid was the best freak of genetics I had seen so far in decades)

He could take on your best Line Backers. While beating your best Corners ane Safeties. No steroids, just living right and working out properly.

I’ve been a huge fan of Shannon’s since back in his Denver Broncos / EAS days. Although I knew I would never look like him, he presented a goal to work towards. Planning on checking out his podcasts now. Thanks for highlighting Mr. Sharp.
one thing I thought was weird was even McCaffrey got ripped and was a string bean prior to the EAS days. but TD and Sharpe are both still muscular guys and have to believe they are some of the few genetic freaks. And believe me, I think most IG influencers are on tons of peds no matter what they "say".
This might be my favorite video you've made. It's everything you've said before perfectly worded succinctly. I just shared it with a newbie buddy. You really are an under appreciated fitness youtuber and you helped me out of a plateau when you were my coach for 12 weeks. Thank you for being you.

That was a great video, I’m about to turn 60 and my body fat percentage is around 5 to 6% very discipline in my eating and workout ! Keep making these good videos. I’ve been following you now for over five years now! Thank you! Thank you
Jeff this has been one of the most encouraging videos that Ive watched. I've re-listened to his eating plan a number of times just to soak the simplicity and results into me. 55 years old, disciplined in his workouts and disciplined in his eating. He's jacked. I really didn't know much at all about Shannon Sharpe. I really admire him now. Thanks for a great video.
If Shannon had asked Jeff to put a video presentation together to show him what his expertise can do for him, this video would be it. Great coaching by Jeff here. Not just the technical tips but also how Jeff communicates the message. On a side note, I’m currently running AX-1 again after about 2 years since the last time and I’m still impressed with how genius the programming is. This program always helps me overcome injuries too. I love it and repeat it often with a different focus and goals each time. Great job Jeff…
An inspiration for older men who are looking for positive role models. Shannon Sharpe is an example to me that you can live a good healthy life as you pass 50.
@@RooseCochran And some people *don't* have to _"maintain their genetic gifts with training and nutritional discipline."_ Those are the people who can "eat whatever they want" and are still relatively lean. So yes, it's ok to not feel the need to defend the statement _"Some humans are just genetically gifted."_ It's not always an excuse, it's simply a fact.
Some humans sit online crying about other humans being more genetically gifted. Some humans accuse everyone that’s in shape of taking PEDs. Some humans cry about PEDs and genetics instead of focusing on bettering themselves.

I am 56 years old. I am one of those guys. I get the look at the gym a lot. Some guys even asked me. I tell them that I only use supplementation. Which is the truth. Vitamins, Whole Foods and a little discipline. Of course I use protein shakes. And he's right. Not everyone has the same genetic cards dealt to them . I'm nowhere near as strong as some guys in the gym but I look it. I'm pretty jacked up. I know that I Inspire some of these young guys in the gym. That is worth almost as much to me as getting in shape myself. I love being the old dog in the kennel. Everything I take you can get at vitamin shoppe.

Jeff, I have always admired Shannon and believe he lives, eats and works out similar to you. Eating that healthy and working out 6+ times a week with the weights he is moving would give anyone a healthy looking body. You add in his genetics and how long he has done it and the results look believable! Thanks for this episode and all you do to help us stay healthy!
I was a walk-on kicker at UGA. Two other kickers and I were "randomly" selected for testing. There were ten players selected out of over 100 athletes on the roster, and three of them were kickers!
Great breakdown this one of the best and really puts peoples hard work into perspective. The comment around "when people see what they haven't got"... absolutely spot on... people just want what they don't have and if they can't get it the jealousy side just comes straight to the top... great video. Love these.
Being 65 with over 5 decades of consistent training i can tell you ...Its amazing Shannon is still very strong and his form is fine...its the muscle mind connection, training hard without over training consistently and diet that keeps him at this level..the 2 times a day split is excellent also...i also have done this..doing two 30 min workouts spread out several hours appart feels great...i believe it especially better for natural older athletes,it helps muscles recover better imo...plus keeps metabolism working more efficiently...😊
I remember Shannon Sharpe.from the EAS Muscle Media 2000 magazine from 1997. He was on the front cover as the NFL's best physique and it was easy to believe. A wonder combination of weight training and professional sports and looking great in the process. It's great to see he's kept up his body too.
I figured out my genetics real quick when I tried out for the track team. My competitors were soo much faster than me, that they crossed the finish line so far ahead of me, they were able to catch their breath, then turn around and cheer me on. 😅
ouch...I remember those days, not even remotely gifted at sports. Just a fat guy in gym class. I remember doing swimming in gym class and by the time I had finished my laps, the other swimmers had dried off and were starting a new module lol. It was horrible.

@@slylockfox85 Its exogenous, not natural, and can be taken in amounts that go above "accepted" baseline levels. And many TRT users do that. Not saying that's him but it wouldn't surprise one bit
@@slylockfox85No, it will take your levels to whatever you want them to be based on how much you take. Obviously when TRT is administered by. An ethical and moral doctor to help people with actual deficiencies based on their gender and age it can be used for good. But the truth is most people aren't doing that and instead getting access to this stuff through back channels, shady "doctors" with no morals, etc and abusing it. Like every drug it only does what it's medically designed to do when administered PROPERLY. Using a pain killer after say a surgery as prescribed by an moral and ethical doctor is FAR different than an addict popping percs however and whenever they feel like it leading to addiction. In both cases it's still the same drug.
@@Turn420 Nobody said TRT was natural. I said that it restores testosterone to normal levels, which it does. That is literally the definition of TRT. If someone goes above the baseline levels, it is no longer TRT. Words have meanings and you can't just make up your own definition because the existing one doesn't coincide with your unfounded opinions. It's called testosterone REPLACEMENT therapy.
I totally agree with Shannon Sharpe… I’m certainly not as well conditioned as Sharpe, but close enough and without any PEDs to easily believe that the condition he’s in even at 55 years old is achievable with the lifelong discipline he’s followed in the gym and in the kitchen. God bless him!
I think what's more important is the type of job you perform. While we all want to strive for more, sometimes if not most, the occupation plays a crucial role. Not to mention, family
All time, great NFL players are athletes with elite genetics and an unbelievable work ethic. Its very possible that Shannon Sharpe has never taken PEDs.
I am 54 and lifted heavy for years. I never played NFL and took the hits he did. I had shoulder surgery on both shoulders so I can not bring the weight down as low as Shannon. What he is lifting is crazy impressive. I wish people who do not do rag on someone and say they are on Steroids. When I was in my second half of my twenties people call me a juicer and I was 💯 clean. I had good genetics and I was super consistent in the gym.
Some of the most sound nutrition advice. Be prepared. Lifestyle over dieting. Sustainability and consistency are key. Choosing high quality foods goes a long way to helping you manage the quantity. One thing I would add is treat meals over cheat meals. You’d be surprised how many treat foods you can fit into your maintenance budget just fine without “cheating.”
I think the key take away that may not be communication enough is his level of experience and the timing factor! Most people who are reviewing him or worse questioning him can’t comprehend that this man doesn’t just have 40+ years of weightlifting and healthy eating experience… which is amazing by itself! But instead He has a life time of the highest possible, professional athlete level of experience with fitness, healthy eating and weight training! I’m 40 years old and in amazing shape! I played sports, including football growing up, then I was in the military (US Army Infantry) and I have spent the majority of my life lifting weights, training MMA and being active! Which is amazing but I still after all that don’t have this man’s level of experience and achievements in the world of fitness, weight lifting and nutrition because he is not only older than me by 15 years but he spent his entire adult life as one of the top/best NFL PLAYERS in the world! Just making it into the NFL is amazing! But this dude was one of the best of the best players and athletes for the majority of his entire adult life!!! People just can’t comprehend that level… So it’s easy to shoot your mouth off and say stupid things (AKA make wrong assumptions). To me it’s equivalent to standing face to face with a famous astronaut who has went too and even walked on the moon several times and telling him that your on his level of experience when it comes to travel and etc… Because you fly several times a week, for the last 10 years due to business travel!?!? 😂🤷🏽♂️🤦♀️💩… The difference in experience is so far that no one is capable of comparing themselves to that astronaut much less considering themselves on his same level unless they have jumped on a rocket, left our planet, landed on the moon, got out and walked around for awhile and then returned to planet earth safely!😂🤣 🤷🏽♂️🤦♀️💩
I tried dieting and failed. I asked myself why was I lean in my college years? In those years I only could afford to eat twice a day and was active. I now eat twice a day and exercise moderately, Viola I'm now back to the same size I was in my twemties. No more knee pain and I can dance again. 😁
@@jonosterman2878 of course not, does anyone think that lmao? His point is valid, look at Shannon at 55, he's built different, as are most NFL HOF'ers
As a former All-American and 2nd round pick, my biggest mistake is not having a trainer like you who would have made me more disciplined at the breakfast, lunch and dinner table. I hit .454 with a little power for my lean size, but once I got to the minors, I saw how many players (especially from the south and west coast), stayed in great shape year round. Shannon his the gifts genetically on and off the field and is my favorite sports commentator, ever! Thank You!
I knew a dark skinned black guy at 55 years old who was previously a boxer and sprint athlete in highschool amd college and just never worked out again. He was a big bulbous fellow with a big gut and a bit rambunctious for his age. I but when I grabbed his cartoonishly massive forearm, I truly appreciated the term man of steel. No perceptible fat on him except a layer of skin to remind me he was human. He could still beat small town high school track stars in sprint race without hardly a warm up. The guy was unreal.
I do believe he’s on TRT now which is legal & medically prescribed, but Sharpe was always jacked he was 6’2 200 in high school with crazy strength & college he was 6’2 230.
At 54 years in age, I am in great shape that had most of these young guys question if I am on something. Well, I am only on God's grace and mercy. Either way, Shannon could care less who thinks that he is on something. Whenever you make nutrition and fitness part of your everyday life. You will find yourself in great shape! 💪🏾💯🙏🏾

Once things calmed down I asked the mom if I could share my thoughts on the matter. “You’re 12, you’re still growing, get your rest, eat your veggies, be good to your folks, wait a couple years to worry about the rest.” He replied with, “but I saw on TikTok…” The custodian at the Shoppe politely declined to sell him anything but the protein powder.
😂😂😂😂@@MrNatewhatley
@@MrNatewhatleyI wouldn't call that a lot of disagreement. Jeff is objective and fair in his reviews.
Agreed, this works for cycling, running, and endurance sports as well
Suffering shared is suffering halved !

Shannon and TO look great for their age
Looking great period! Do you know many kids that look like them?
Great in general, they look insane for their age
(been a gym rat my self for so long, I always observe people, and this kid was the best freak of genetics I had seen so far in decades)
Too good?
TO looks great
Shannon looks insane. He looks better than great for 56. Like a 25 yr old that competes in shows. Not like a 56 yr old. Him and Hershel Walker the only two ageless vampires.
Also been training nearly 40 years combined with sensible diet..still in decent shape in mid 50s !!!

Kellen Winslow changed the position in the 80’s

I've re-listened to his eating plan a number of times just to soak the simplicity and results into me. 55 years old, disciplined in his workouts and disciplined in his eating. He's jacked. I really didn't know much at all about Shannon Sharpe. I really admire him now. Thanks for a great video.
You took my comment bro. I'm only 43 and I'm a CPT, and this was still informative.

Some humans are just genetically gifted
And some humans maintain their genetic gifts with training and nutritional discipline.
@@RooseCochran And some people *don't* have to _"maintain their genetic gifts with training and nutritional discipline."_ Those are the people who can "eat whatever they want" and are still relatively lean. Or the people who "don't workout", yet are muscular. As well as some people who don't train but still have a high athletic endurance.
So yes, it's ok to not feel the need to defend the statement _"Some humans are just genetically gifted."_ It's not always an excuse, it's simply a fact.
Some humans take performance enhancing drugs. Sometimes gentically gifted humans also take PED's. That's usually the case at the top of any sport.
Some humans sit online crying about other humans being more genetically gifted. Some humans accuse everyone that’s in shape of taking PEDs. Some humans cry about PEDs and genetics instead of focusing on bettering themselves.

'Sometimes' individuals like Shannon don't consider TRT a performance enhancing drug. Just saying...
Trt is a scam. Natural test doesn’t dwindle and it is stronger than any PED
But TRT just returns testosterone to baseline levels, correct? I miss the "enhancement" part. To "enhance" something literally means to "make better."
I really enjoyed your breakdown of this video! I’ll incorporate researching restaurants in advance for work travel 🙌🏾
I didn’t know Shannon was 55! Inspiration. Thanks, AthleenX, y’all inspire me too. 👊🏽
I think what's more important is the type of job you perform. While we all want to strive for more, sometimes if not most, the occupation plays a crucial role. Not to mention, family
It takes decades to build a physic like Shannon’s- Naturally(!). No one should be surprised... Kudus to him.
I'm glad you discussed his workouts and clarifying that he's throwing around kilos, not pounds 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
He is wrong. These are definitely pounds not kilos, it's obvious to anyone who has ever used the "big boy" side of the dumbbell rack.

Genetics and lifestyle (mindset, habits, diet, etc) go a long way. Some are just naturally gifted.
I tried dieting and failed.
I asked myself why was I lean in my college years?
In those years I only could afford to eat twice a day and was active.
I now eat twice a day and exercise moderately, Viola I'm now back to the same size I was in my twemties.
No more knee pain and I can dance again. 😁
Thank you. People have to understand, if you played in the NFL, you are very different. If you’re an NFL hall of famer, you are very, very different.
Still human. He’s not super man. You can’t defy aging or death.
He may not be Superman, but he is super, man.
Dear Jeff,
I was at Vitamin shoppe today and a 12 year old was convinced that he needed protein powder, creatine, etc. He and his mom were having an intense discussion. Once things calmed down I asked the mom if I could share my thoughts on the matter.
“You’re 12, you’re still growing, get your rest, eat your veggies, be good to your folks, wait a couple years to worry about the rest.”
He replied with, “but I saw on TikTok…” The custodian at the Shoppe politely declined to sell him anything but the protein powder. Would you ever consider doing a video for the younger athlete?
If I and the custodian were wrong I will happily accept your counsel.

Jeff I call Big Time B.S. on those 50 and 60Kg Dumbells. 60kg is what 130lbs estimated? Have you seen how huge 130lb dumbells are? Those werent in KG's!
Completely agree. I’ve not seen 50kg be that thin, unless they’re made out of some super dense metal that no one else has.
True! We use kgs in Europe, so I know how they look like. Also, they don’t sell kg plates to the US market, lol!
Exactly what I posted. You'd think Jeff has been in the gym long enough to realize those are way too small to be the weights he said. Plus the guy lives in the US where 99.9% of gyms have all their weights in LB's.
@@firsthelix6726USA Power Lifting uses kgs for body weight classes and plates.
My gym has a set of plates that are marked in kgs. They also have the lbs equivalent marked in smaller fonts. That’s for those of us that are into power lifting.
True... pounds they are... he may lift that weight... but not so easily...
Hard work and good genetics. You’re gonna look like that 💪
