- Eddie Cantor sings "My Wife Is on a Diet" in the 1930 short subject Getting a Ticket. He's been pulled over by a cop and tells the man he's Eddie Cantor. Eddie has no identification with him, so naturally to prove who he is, he sings a song.

Boardwalk Empire brought me here, had no idea that Eddie Cantor was a real life person. Bravo to how well he’s portrayed in the show!
And "bravo" to the REAL Eddie Cantor. A great entertainer.
Officer "Do you know you was going 55 miles per hour!?"
Eddie "But I haven't been out an hour "
Good stuff!! Cantor is one of the greatest.
Something soothing about the old audio quality, kinda wish someone would make a movie like this today
Try boardwalk empire. It's a TV series but they have an Eddie cantor impersonator in it, it also has a great soundtrack. If you want a movie with this type of sound try old movies 1943 and before.

That'd be awesome :3
Now i know why i had to go to court: evidently i forgot to sing the cops a song.
Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Always worked for me, lol
They'd give me their numbers too, idk why, but never called lol
I absolutely adore Eddie Cantor. Such a great entertainer also a nice and kind hearted mann❤❤❤
I’m only 12 years old but I love this song!
Nobody cares how old you are.
Underrated comedian.
Eddie was a gem
I really adore Eddie Cantor. The only thing I've noticed is he's voice has changed, I know it gets deeper as men older. ❤❤❤
This is great. Still very topical.
As Jules said, "my girlfriend is a vegetarian, so that pretty much makes me one too."
Right? lol Sounds like torture!
Just found this song i really enjoy it! First song i found by eddie cantor was making whoopie and my baby just cares for me. Now i was born in 1991 but i usually listen to 60's -80's which are still good but i found Eddie Cantor and love his work. I dont even remember how i learned about him might have been from Three stooges that i also enjoy i believe it was around the same point in time! Either way its a masterpiece that i really wish more people my age and younger would appreciate! It does suck with todays society how you have to put disclaimers! When you watch three stooges you see none of those because when it came it out not only did the average kid know naturally not to do what they saw on tv but how they were raised knew by instinct! Just like with all the looney tunes like wild e coyote you did not have to tell people not to use dynamite? it is very sad what this world has come to! It was a lot prettier then!
@Miss Chickenfoot Pulp Fiction!
I think this just so cute this must go on nowadays to, I don't mean singing to the policeman. I've turned into a great Eddie Cantor fan. I've read a lot about him and it seems that no one has anything bad to say about him. 😂😂😂
Amazing stuff. It's a piece of history and I can't believe the quality!
Good point, I did not consider that!!
his wife disliked this video
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Right? lmao
Millions of husbands still feel that pain...
Every single Eddie Cantor movie has an ED-related song.
Really? Do you have any other examples?
I've only seen whoopee, but I don't remember anything in that
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
Love this stuff! Thank you for posting! 👍♥️👏👏👏👏👏
The real way to talk yourself out of a ticket 😂 i wish i could meet eddie cantor, he seems like fun to be around
surprised this isn't more popular
So kitsch, and so schmaltzy, so I kind of love it.
This has been a new and worsening phenomenon since ancient times...
😂👍
Love it! Thank you!
Outstanding
Boardwalk empire
Can someone tell me what was so great about Eddie Cantor? I always appreciate, albeit with a straight face.
He was funny and would sing about current events that his audience related to. That's all I got
@@StrangeScaryNewEngland kinda the jerry Seinfeld of his time, which our generation then got a downgrade with lilly sings talkshow and lele pons cause of social justice propaganda
"Blue" comedy is on network TV every day now, because people like Eddie Cantor punched through back then. I used to laugh myself silly listening to Howard Stern 25 years ago, but now it seems tame in comparison and it's much the same with Cantor. He was a pioneer, he pushed limits and he changed the game. Think of the kind of moralizing that led to Prohibition and then think of how much he must have pissed off those people, and that's where the laugh is today....not in the shock or the novelty (it's worn off) but in the sheer balls of what it meant at the time.
Awesome
@bashbrannigan Glad you enjoyed! :o)
Reminds me of George Formby...
Definitely the style of that era..
love
What's the greatest problem now throughout the land
What's the only problem needs a helping hand
it isn't prohibition
Or Farm relief I find
it's something more important now on everybody's mind
just walk into any home today
It's 10 to 1 you'll hear each husband say
My wife is on a diet
And since she's on a diet
Home isn't home anymore
No gravy and potatoes
Just lettuce and tomatoes
Where are the pies i adore
Oh oh oh oh what a disgrace
I'm ashamed to look a grapefruit straight in the face
My wife is on a diet
And since she's on a diet
I'm losing a pound every day
Monday grapefruit breakfast and for dinner
And at night some orange juice
Tuesday grapefruit
Boys I'm growing thinner
All my clothes are getting loose
Wednesday Thursday then I feel satisfied
Cuz then I change to coffee with grapefruit on the side
From Friday to Sunday
There's more than I can stand
Before the 18th day
I'll have a lily in my hand
My wife is on a diet
She tries to keep it quiet
Gee but she looks like a dude
God dammit
What used to be her fender
Is growing thin and slender
Even her bumper is lose
Around her chassis she's not the same
Why you can even see the bolts that hold up her frame
My wife is on a diet
And since she's on a diet
I never go home anymore
🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️R.I.P.
What they'd do to get out of a traffic ticket back then!
Imagine if this song was made today? It would condemned for “fat shaming.” 😂😂😂
how would that be fat shaming? do you even know what that means? I doubt it
I'm just wondering if men ever think they don't have to rely on their wives to cook for them, they could cook for themselves, you know. Still the song is very funny
It's the opposite of "fat shaming", I think you meant "skinny shaming" 🤨
I didn't know he was real
The actor playing the cop was a well known character actor. But can you imagine having to stand there and pretend to be amused by this nonsense?
This absolutely sucks!
This sucks so badly it's laughable. If this came out nowadays it would have to be an SNL sketch.
Troll
Yeah, 50 Marvel movies each year isn't laughable at all. Things were so much worse back then..
Comedy and music changes and updates constantly. If you didn't have thousands of sources of comedy coming towards you constantly everyday, you would probably think it is great. Now you just have more variety.
Too true And this is why I sticked to Slapstick humor from Charlie Chaplin to The Three Stooges
I bet this garbage was a hit, SMH..
GSXR 600 garbage? How in what way do you mean garbage if your referring to rap music then you're correct that is the truest form of garbage you can acquire.
