I've always liked how AC3D uses an epic orchestral piece with choir as the first mission bgm. The AC series normally reserves such pieces for the important turning point or climactic missions. So, in a way, it's like they're saying that Phoenix's very first sortie in the war *is* the turning point.
Fun fact: that "close quarter auto maneuver" came from the Sky Crawler (Novel turned anime movie) game. Which was made by Project Ace. Even some of the animations are exactly the same.
You actually can zoom out the radar using up and down on the D-pad! It’s not as quick as holding a button, but by zooming out you get a better view of the map and any bonus enemies or enemy aces that show up in NG+. There’s 3 settings to the radar I think. Also, the lore of ZOE being the prototype testing of Belka’s AI fighter program that existed to fill in the gap after the events of the Belkan War is so cool.
AC3 deserves a remake. The Japanese version was the first to introduce the anime tropes, conspiracy plots, and futuristic tech. It was so big, the game required 2 disc on PS1.
I remember awhile back, kono stated that a remake of ac3 alone would be more expensive and difficult than if they tried remaking the entire holy trinity, safe to assume we'll get the trinity first if anything
@@aceofaces1506AC3 still has licensed planes they would have to shell out money for in addition to the studio who created the artwork for the rights to reuse it in a new title.
Ah, AHL. My personal favorite Ace Combat. I’m about to go on a bit of a rant so… Also There’s a map button that zooms out the Map on the bottom screen, it’s bottom on the dpad, lol. And, if you don’t like the maneuvers, you can simply turn them off in the options, at least in the “+” versions. Trigger Warning: Death of a Family Member AHL was my first Ace Combat which I got for my 3DS a bit over a year ago now. During that time, my dad had redeveloped cancer… for the third time… he couldn’t fight it anymore. Playing AHL helped me get through what I’d consider the worst part of my life. My dad tried to get me into Ace Combat when 7 released, but I quit after the 7th mission. Playing AHL made me feel close to him even after he passed. And thus I will forever consider it my favorite game in the series.
The WW2 planes were in Joint Assault, they were just behind stupid levels of requirements for unlocks. Also, you could just turn the game down if its that bad on the audio side. When I played it, it really wasn't that bad. Some not as good dub lines, maybe, but it sounded good overall. As for the OST stuff, it would have been neat to have an option to switch between them. Now, some are in the game in the bonus missions. The new stuff made for this game is good as well, but it always felt off since I associate the sound with God Eater over Ace Combat.
3D Cross Rumble received an enhanced port for the New 3DS in 2015 that added improved controls, camera control through the systems' second analog stick, and Nintendo themed aircraft available through ingame collectibles and the systems' added Amiibo support.
This was my first AC game, got it for like 15 bucks in a sale back in 2015 iirc. From there I fell in love with the series and have played almost all games. I have probably beaten the main campaign at ace difficulty like 5 times or so lol, it holds a special place in my heart.

Any plans for doing Project Wingman? Or alternatively you could take a look at "The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces". It's an arcade flight game made by Access Games in cooperation Project Aces.
I don't have the Plus version so the controls are a bit more restrictive in the game. Yaw is on the left and right D-Pad, which is the same thumb you're using to control the plane with the Circle Pad. This makes it really hard to make any fine adjustments while still staying mobile. On the standard control scheme, I found the "shoot down the cruise missile" mission extremely hard, so I use baby mode controls specifically for that mission so I can actually track the thing. The non-Plus version does support the Circle Pad Pro thing, but that's an extra accessory that I don't have, which is why I suggest people play the Plus version if they can. Also to chime in on the WW2 fighters. Who says Ace Combat has to only involve modern fighter jets? Even if ACES were to keep the series in Strangereal, they could still explore how air combat was when propeller planes and ballistic rockets/bullets were the best things available. A super plane could have homing missiles and a primitive rocket or jet engine.
This is one of my favorite in the series... feature rich, deep, and engaging. Also, color customization makes it so worth cultivating your "acesona". (I'm trademarking that word if no one has already 😂)
Croos Rumble's DFM isn't new. Project Aces used the same thing in Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, which is the only time Project Aces made a game that wasnt Ace Combat.
Sky Crawlers was/is good. Absolute dog of a time to get running on Dol with any sort of stable FPS. Finally the latest beta versions (not Dev) using PAL with PAL60 mode OFF (so the game run at 50FPS) got the game truly playable and I was able to use a joystick. Glad to finally have it playable with a joystick along with the PS1, PS2 and PSP Ace Combats. Yes I know the PS1 has twin stick that is questionable and the PS2 has joystick for AC. I have both but the PS2 don't looks the best on flat panel TVs and the PS1 stick is still questionable.

I believe you missed an important detail about this game. This game got a re-release in 2015 with the name of "Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy +" (or Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble +). The difference between the original and the + version is a fixed typo, support for the New Nintendo 3DS's added inputs and better processing on the New 3DS's improved hardware. Not only that, it includes some special aircrafts that have skins of Nintendo characters (and PAC-MAN) that you can unlock them in some selected missions in a hidden "?" Block or you can scan an amiibo to unlock it earlier and if you do unlock it via amiibo, you will also get a secondary skin for that specific aircraft and a special cockpit that ONLY that special aircraft could use (example: to unlock in-game the Mario F-22, you have to find a hidden block in Mission 23, but if you use the Mario amiibo, not only you'll unlock it early, but you'll also get a secondary skin and a special cockpit that only the Mario F-22 could use. In this case, Mario F-22's special cockpit improves the plane's Attack Maneuver ability and increases lock-on range)
It would've been really neat for some of the Amiibo to give you actual Nintendo-exclusive planes like Starfox could've given you an Arwing, Metroid could've given you Samus' gunship, F-Zero could've given you a flying Blue Falcon or the Falcon Flyer, etc, etc... Instead we just got some fancy Nintendo-themed skins on existing planes... but at least you could get some advanced planes early through this way.

Three things: 1- You actually CAN zoom out the map, on the 3DS it was the up arrow (or down arrow, one of the two, been a wile since I didn't play it). 2- This game thanks to the digital screen allowed something that can greatly save your sanity, you can manually choose which targets to lock on by simply holding your finger on it, it will make appear a little circle on the top screen that you can move around by moving your finger, any target inside that circle when you release it will be automatically selected for a lock on, making the pain of switching targets and game always picking the wrong one almost inexistant. 3- Z.O.E is canonicaly Belka secret project of IA piloted fighter, the one we shot down in Ace Combat 7 last missions, so just another shot for Belka to test on the field their projects while remaining undercover, and that's why all aircraft marked as Z.O.E don't bear any army markings, to keep it secret despite being on the side of the enemy

Not gonna lie, this is one of the few games where the 3D felt madatory and not just like a gimmic. Not only was it cool to feel like you where looking out of an actual cockpit but being able to accuratly estimate distances made me play more boldly then I otherwise would have on a flat image.
This game was so atmospheric when you turned the 3D up to the maximum setting and plugged in some headphones. It will still give me chills whenever I play it.
this is one of the few games in the series that ive played the most and if you have the time i do urge you to replay the game on Ace Difficulty. while it does mean you take more damage, some missions play slightly differently with the enemy squad battles being the most notable (with the exception of Lancer squad). On top of that if you leave the Squad leader alive as the last one special dialog plays for each of them.
This was my first Ace Combat game and I've been a fan of the series ever since... I was itching for something like Starfox and in many ways, this scratched that itch I've been looking for. Also a lot of people in the comments already said a lot of their critiques I would've said about this video, so I'll refrain from repeating them here :P This has been an entertaining series of videos as I've been curious to try out the older games but have little means to do so, and I've been extremely happy AC7 just recently got a port on the Switch, so I can get more of that AC gameplay outside of my 3DS... even if the turning isn't as quick and tight as the 3DS version, plus also no crutch of that "action button", which I learned can be turned off in the 3DS game as well so I can replay the 3DS game as I have on AC7 without overly relying on my "get out of jail free" card.
12:38 Uhhh I think you may be wrong there This was actually my first Ace Combat ever and I remember playing the absolute hell out of it. But I also remember that it had that radar option. I think you have to press the "Select" button on the 3DS I'm not certain though, because it has been YEARS since I last played this game
i would say both sounds tracks from the orginal and remake have their merits but i think i persoanlly prefer the remake ost + gravity that song hits hard
so stoked for you to cover AC7, its really the game that brings it to modern standards. It does have some hickups IMO but its an amazing game, have played thru more than 10 times and have all the trophies XD cant wait for AC8
Ah 3D, the game I wish I wish I could have bought digitally before the EShop was Shut down... Now you can only get it via an extremely expensive physical cart...
Underrated game! Kinda whack that they named it Assault Horizon Legacy since it had nothing to do with Assault Horizon, probably would've fared better if they called it Cross Rumble over here as well
My first ace comabt I played was Ace combat X and to this day my favorite in the entire franchise. Some time later I bought Ace combat Assault Horizon Legacy, and the truth is that I hated it at first for being a “minor” version of the console game and not having the same story. I then played the rest of the franchise and instead loved that the 3DS game is a remake of 2 instead of an attempt to be the disastrous Ace combat Assault Horizon.
NOT TRUE. Ace Combat 04 is a "re-imagining" of 2, played in reverse. ACE 04 takes place in Erusea, which is a country that has a small break-away republic called the Twinkle Islands where ACE 2 took place and where some of the battlefields of 04 also occur. The Z.O.E. planes were revealed to be autonomous drones in the second PS1 title and there is even a prototype Scinfaxi boss battle near the end of the game. Moebius Strip, an unending ribbon shape that loops infinitely into itself Phoenix, an immortal creature that births itself anew after extinguishing to old age Both pilots flew Tomcats canonically before switching to their "boxart planes"; the SU-37 (the traditional enemy craft of the series; Gelb Team, Yellows) and the F-22 Raptor (Mobius One) Fortress Intolerance is the final boss location of both games with ACE 04 utilizing the same tunnel flight section within Megalith to destroy the missile warheads, just as was done in Fighter's Honor (ACE 2's final mission.) Mobius One disables "Megalith" the same way Phoenix destroyed Fortress Intolerance. They've remade it before and even tried to subtly hint this to the players 🤭 Also; Ace Combat Infinity is a sort of "best-of" collaboration of the series' missions and settings but re-imagined for a purely multiplayer environment. The red MiG-29 in Ace Combat 04 is likely a mercenary. Before Ace Combat Zero established that freelance pilots are a thing (confirmed with ACE 6's reference to Galm), Erusea's access to the Wyvern programme and the Z.O.E.'s role of protecting important military installations would lead one to think "MARKOS" is just a machine as this appearance in itself seems like a reference to the "Powerplay" mission, which featured a ZOE aircraft protecting the airspace. Makes you wonder if this was intentional but it's likely that someone at Project Aces just liked R. Prowling Devil and the choice MAY be purely coincidental considering an autonomous Wyvern never appears as an enemy at any point in ACE 04. The lineage with ACE 2 makes me question why MARKOS was not set as an enemy ace in a different mission. Sorry, just geeking out lol xD It would be cool if MARKOS was a ZOE Aggressor, considering by the end of ACE 04 the remnants of the Erusean airforce essentially do this (Battle of Megalith) after the true Yellow Squadron is mostly eradicated by the time of Emancipation and outrightly destroyed during the battle over Farbanti. Imagine a scenario where you have to find the real drone "red plane" that's the true problem causer amongst a sea of other ZOE "aggressors" flown by human pilots--that would make for a cool set piece! * Edit: there may be more to the Lifeline mission's similarities to Powerplay but I've never read R. Prowling Devil to know; punctuation
Random thing, which would actually be more prescient for when AC7 is covered on this channel; A certain DLC plane (that isn't an ADF(X)-series or a Wyvern for that matter) has a livery that is a direct reference to ZOE.
I'm getting so goddamn sick and tired of not having re-releases or remakes of either Ace combat or armored core games what the actual fuck I get it I get it that they are in licensing hell I understand but there is so much goddamn money to be made by all parties involved I don't understand what the problem is
I'm of a similar opinion regarding Cross Rumble. I appreciate the Usean Coup being better tied into series lore, the ace squadron fights, the Z.O.E units getting story focus, and your wingmen getting some characterization (I too grew to like Slash). But I can't help but feel that Cross Rumble overall is inferior to AC2. Its too held back by the 3ds' limitations. The gameplay feels slower, the controls have that sluggish jank feel, and enemy encounters are reduced from AC2 to fit on the 3ds. The lore additions are nice but they are still too barebones to really get me invested like previous entries. So if it comes down to playing just for fun, fast gameplay, I'd rather play AC2. I too wouldn't mind if Project Aces tried another AC2 remake. The potential is there. It needed more to time cook, and a better oven than the 3ds.
i have a good question would anyone play a ww2 ace combat game and since its in a fictonial world what would be the plot of it would it be something like the me 262 was devloped a lot earlier in the war? it would be cool i could imagine all the aircraft would have a mix of both real and probably luftwaffe 1946 "what if planes" but possably they would make there own take on a scifi ww2 planes such as like a spitfire with a jet engline a p51 with more upgrades the possablites of that would be great
Ace Combat Infinity. Sky Crawlers. Ace Combat Infinity even had WWI fighters (Sky Kid -Blue Max- and -Red Baron-) The piston fighters are a cute novelty but we're here for the Firing Control Systems, automated flaps, radars and missiles lol The strongest and most customized piston fighter was outdone by any basic Lv. 1 jet, just to put into perspective how dramatic the technological leap was presented even in game. They had better machine guns than the modern jet fighters but this was marginal and niche at best. So much so that Namco had specific tournaments just for these aircraft lol The series has had classic warbirds in it before
Ace combat 2 has a good ost but for AHL I think the current ost fits better for the pace and well the current time frame of the game. Plus AHL has some pretty good bangers as well so the more the better!

Hey Cole, Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces
I bought the 3ds version for 5 clams, and boy I was hooked enough to play the whole AC library
I'd give everything for them to remake Ace Combat Infinity for PC...
It would be good if Namco remastered all 3 on the ps1 and all 3 on the ps2.
Ace Combat: Ace collection Vol. 1 and 2??
I need to mod my 3ds so bad this looks so so so cool!
This was my first Ace Combat game and I've been a fan of the series ever since... I was itching for something like Starfox and in many ways, this scratched that itch I've been looking for. Also a lot of people in the comments already said a lot of their critiques I would've said about this video, so I'll refrain from repeating them here :P
This has been an entertaining series of videos as I've been curious to try out the older games but have little means to do so, and I've been extremely happy AC7 just recently got a port on the Switch, so I can get more of that AC gameplay outside of my 3DS... even if the turning isn't as quick and tight as the 3DS version, plus also no crutch of that "action button", which I learned can be turned off in the 3DS game as well so I can replay the 3DS game as I have on AC7 without overly relying on my "get out of jail free" card.
For a mobile Handheld game, having short gameplay sessions is a real boon.

Uhhh I think you may be wrong there
This was actually my first Ace Combat ever and I remember playing the absolute hell out of it.
But I also remember that it had that radar option. I think you have to press the "Select" button on the 3DS
I'm not certain though, because it has been YEARS since I last played this game
i would say both sounds tracks from the orginal and remake have their merits
but i think i persoanlly prefer the remake ost
+ gravity that song hits hard
Next up is Ace Combat 7 so only one more Ace Combat review. There's also that one Project game about Wingmen which is pretty good
Excelent video, this and Avance are the only games in the series that i haven't played, it looks really cool, i should try it in an emulator.
YES YOU COVERED MY FAVORITE ACE COMBAT GAME!
I love this game, and have been playing since I was 7 and just got a new 3ds to play it cause I've kept the cartridge all these years
WW2 planes are also available in Joint Assault FYI
so stoked for you to cover AC7, its really the game that brings it to modern standards.
I got it through jailbreaking my New 3DS XL, though that's why I'm able to play the Plus version.
I really wish they remade AC1 as well as 2 in this game, since AC1's conflict is just a prologue to AC2.
Underrated game!
Kinda whack that they named it Assault Horizon Legacy since it had nothing to do with Assault Horizon, probably would've fared better if they called it Cross Rumble over here as well
I own every AC from 4 onwards, and I wish they made one for Vita.
I thought the Counter Maneuver system was heavily tweaked from the one from The Sky Crawlers.
One of my biggest wishes is ti have a reedition of this game in switch.
This game was my childhood
My first ace comabt I played was Ace combat X and to this day my favorite in the entire franchise.
Some time later I bought Ace combat Assault Horizon Legacy, and the truth is that I hated it at first for being a “minor” version of the console game and not having the same story.
I then played the rest of the franchise and instead loved that the 3DS game is a remake of 2 instead of an attempt to be the disastrous Ace combat Assault Horizon.
I prefer the AC2 music but I also love AC2's music.
Moebius Strip, an unending ribbon shape that loops infinitely into itself
Phoenix, an immortal creature that births itself anew after extinguishing to old age
Both pilots flew Tomcats canonically before switching to their "boxart planes"; the SU-37 (the traditional enemy craft of the series; Gelb Team, Yellows) and the F-22 Raptor (Mobius One)
Fortress Intolerance is the final boss location of both games with ACE 04 utilizing the same tunnel flight section within Megalith to destroy the missile warheads, just as was done in Fighter's Honor (ACE 2's final mission.)
Mobius One disables "Megalith" the same way Phoenix destroyed Fortress Intolerance.
They've remade it before and even tried to subtly hint this to the players 🤭
Also; Ace Combat Infinity is a sort of "best-of" collaboration of the series' missions and settings but re-imagined for a purely multiplayer environment.
Sorry, just geeking out lol xD
It would be cool if MARKOS was a ZOE Aggressor, considering by the end of ACE 04 the remnants of the Erusean airforce essentially do this (Battle of Megalith) after the true Yellow Squadron is mostly eradicated by the time of Emancipation and outrightly destroyed during the battle over Farbanti.
Random thing, which would actually be more prescient for when AC7 is covered on this channel;
A certain DLC plane (that isn't an ADF(X)-series or a Wyvern for that matter) has a livery that is a direct reference to ZOE.
@@TornaitSuperBird I hated 7; which plane is it?
@@o_mighty_thunder It's the Darkstar from the Top Gun: Maverick collaboration.
That's all very interesting but it isn't what a remake is
I want Joint Assult remade!!!!!! Antarus 1 is GOAT! the soundtrack is GOAT!
I'm getting so goddamn sick and tired of not having re-releases or remakes of either Ace combat or armored core games what the actual fuck I get it I get it that they are in licensing hell I understand but there is so much goddamn money to be made by all parties involved I don't understand what the problem is
Ngl, AC1 and 2 was kind of massively inspired by Top gun movies
I absolutely adore this game
No Idea AC2 was remade!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
You know, you could at least credit the person you took the wallpaper from (that is, me) to make your thumbnail.
Oh that’s my bad man. I've gone ahead and replaced it, but if you would like me to put it back and just credit you for it let me know!
i have a good question
would anyone play a ww2 ace combat game
and since its in a fictonial world what would be the plot of it
would it be something like the me 262 was devloped a lot earlier in the war?
it would be cool i could imagine all the aircraft would have a mix of both real and probably luftwaffe 1946 "what if planes" but possably they would make there own take on a scifi ww2 planes
such as like a spitfire with a jet engline
a p51 with more upgrades
the possablites of that would be great
Ace Combat Infinity. Sky Crawlers.
Ace Combat Infinity even had WWI fighters (Sky Kid -Blue Max- and -Red Baron-)
The piston fighters are a cute novelty but we're here for the Firing Control Systems, automated flaps, radars and missiles lol
The strongest and most customized piston fighter was outdone by any basic Lv. 1 jet, just to put into perspective how dramatic the technological leap was presented even in game. They had better machine guns than the modern jet fighters but this was marginal and niche at best.
So much so that Namco had specific tournaments just for these aircraft lol
The series has had classic warbirds in it before
@@o_mighty_thunderi didbn't even know about this game thanks
their really is something about war birds
built for fighting
but by gods given grace do planes look beutiful
wait does that mean ac5 on ps4 was just emu?
I felt the game was a little mediocre, but the Fighter’s Honor Remix is among the best AC soundtracks to me.
Kinda sick of ace combats orchestral music want that electronic futuristic techno vibe
AC2 soundtrack... for me, that is the biggest loss in the series so far)
Too much orchestra in a clear power fantasy on planes.
I Would say ace3DS is probably THE BEST HANDHELD, but has Kinda Lame Physics
Except for X-29 and Su-47 🤷♂️
Actually this game has 3 levels of radar screen.
Original AC2 soundtrack way better
Ace combat 2 has a good ost but for AHL I think the current ost fits better for the pace and well the current time frame of the game. Plus AHL has some pretty good bangers as well so the more the better!
