Fun fact: if you take the staircase down to the supermarket or parkinglot underneath, you'll spot multiple windows with medieval equipment and even clothes behind it, found during excevating the parking lot. The small fisherman's village Rotta/Rotte (named after the river with the same name that used to run there; changed to Rotterdam after completing a dam being build) actually started around what's now the main entrance of the Markthal!

I'm from Rotterdam and I agree that the "Markthal" building is iconic. But foodwise, it's a tourist trap, twice as expensive as outside of the building.
I agree. Since it opened, the markthal has changed a lot. Probably, because there was no clear vision of what the martkhal should be and due to poor management. When it opened, there were various high quality food shops. They all left and now the markthal has become a tourist trap, filled with (mainly) fast food.
"De Beren" is a staple of Rotterdam, they started in Rotterdam but now have restaurants all over the Netherlands, it's what we call an "eetcafé" in the Netherlands , so for a bit more casual dining. If you even go there you should try the Saté
As always: great video. People who are new here I suggest go watch your older vlogs. They are not only funny, you might learn something. Like in this one: I had no idea there were 100 different food stalls in this Market Hall? And some of the things you tried I had never heard of. You both are somewhat particular when it comes to food but are not at all affraid to try something new. And then the amount of things you can eat! Respect. I enjoyed the Q&A. Some viewers are very curious about personal stuff! I think you never expected that when you started this busi..expensive hobby! Lets hope it's not only your work that keeps you here. By now you should know that The Netherlands is the best country in the world. On to the next 10.000!
Another tip for the winter: a slice of balkenbrij on your slice of bread! Flip that slice of balkenbrij in a baking pan a couple of times untill it becomes crispy.... You're gonna love it!!!
Hmmm…. When I moved to the east coast of the USA, I was introduced to Thai food called “Scrapple”, which I had never seen in the west. This balkenbrij seems very similar to… Unsure about it… 🧐
Every year when I "go back" to visit my brothers, we always hit this market because I used to work at De Bijenkorf for 12 years in a range of departments there. It used to be one huge open space with tram tracks going. Even though I make most of the food/snacks here in America, I absolutely go berserk on kroketjes, patat met, haring, etc. Can't beat the real thing. (well, I can with de kroketjes but that's another story altogether. One thing I can state is that I use Escoffier's bone broth recipe for my beef kroketjes as the base for the roux.
Congrats on your 10K subscribers! It's well deserved! I really don't understand why people watch your videos but don't subscribe. You two are amazing and hilarious! But after so many years in the Netherlands, it's time to learn to speak Dutch. 😉
Congrats on your 10k subs. Well deserved. This q&a format was fun. You guys working for Taylor guitars is intersting (for me). So Nate plays guitar, i know that, what about Katrina? Anyways, keep up the good work. I love the vlogs. Thanks.👍🏻
Guysss. You ‘ve missed something important. Go douw the stairs, to the parking. It’s like a musea there)) cool stuff they foud while building. Cause where you stand ( blaak) was a river.
Tip for you Nate: we're talking about a winter dish... Broeder met Zeeuwse keukenstroop! You're gonna love it!!! Or just a plain pannekoek with bacon and cheese!

7:20 Nate , you don't say it right... ' long, long dark days in winter' are not not long , they are friggin short !! You go to work in the dark and return in the dark ! 😞 As a dutchman I can't stand it well . especiLly without frost skating times, (which is the trend with climaate change ). Every 30th november i give a curse for the month coming ). ( is a bit like a doc I saw of an old eskimo/inuit whose last words to his grandson were : " i never could get used to the cold .." 🙄😩😭) That said, it could be worse, like Scandinavian worse. Say Bergen, Norway. 2400mm rain a year, 9 hr of sunshine in the month December ! I survived 5 months to christmas in Tampere , Finland ,, but Bergen must be the Humid Hell of Darkness !
Looking forward to the asian food-by-nate invite, can I bring (about) 10.200 friends? (Tip: try a slice of bread with roomboter, old cheese and appelstroop, you'll be (pleasantly) surprised)
Nate, sometimes I think you've become more Dutch than you think. At least, every now and then you complain like a Dutchman. Speaking of donating, I was just thinking about asking you for money because watching those videos takes quite a bit of time. And time is money. Seriously, stay independent and leave money out of it. I know your hobby is vlogging. Both of you are nowhere if you can't vlog. 😎

My favourite food in the Netherlands is by far the Indonesian rice table. Yum
Love it!
That's semi-Dutch. Indonesian food, addapted (is that correct English??) to Dutch taste. Nevertheless, I agree with you, as a born Dutchman.

I went there once and was so overwhelmed, that I didn't know what to choose. Expensive too btw.
Seriously came to tell you to get a full Korean corndog with EVERYTHING!!!!!! With the potatoes and sugar. It’s soooooo good!
Oh man… we would need to think about that… 🫠🙃

In the markethalls are penthouses they are like 2.000.000 euro
What a bargain! 💸
Try also one star restaurant Amarone in Rotterdam center. It’s a merger of French and Japanese cuisine…( my son works there).

Goes - Tuesdays
Middelburg - Thursdays
Vlissingen - Fridays
Try quark on rins apple stroop sand-witch of cheese / rins apple stroop sand-witch

pinball : there is a pinballmuseum in Rotterdam delfshaven. you can play pinball for hours
Nate loves it! He hosted a documentary with them at the museum a few years back. Time to go back!
See the little windows above these are actually apartments!
It would be so strange to live in that building!
Everything you miss, they have them here too, kind of!
Totally! Except for the donuts that Katrina loves… 😋

ROFL: "I am tied to this guy" [best good marriage argument ever]! LOVE you Americans! Welcome to "THE Netherlands! 😂
Don't forget to visit the other countries and special municipality, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius.
Nate has been to Aruba many times for SCUBA, but I think you are correct… We need to plan that kind of trip for January or February!
Just around the corner 🤣🤣🤣

Nate has been and knows the owners. He helped them film a documentary there a few years ago for an Expo in the USA. Awesome place!

Tip: poffertjes spinkled with Tia Maria or Grande Maria!!! That's to die for!!!

Hot choco with ameretto🤗
Dark rum !!!!!!!
Probably for the "real" Dutch food you will have to be invited by an old fashioned Dutch family to enjoy the lovely "soul" food we have here! 😊
Visit Groningen . Mustard soup , eierballen ( like scotch egg, but better), metworst and poffert .
Groningen… very soon!
