- Are they? Are they at every turn? I’ve been known to foolishly utter to myself how much I “hate” everyone in a fit of annoyance. Really? Do you? What’s the problem? Do you seek unhappiness and discord everywhere you go? If you saw someone on the street in need of help, would you turn and walk away? Where does this unhappiness and feeling like everyone out there is a rat bastard come from? Your mind! That’s where. Sure people from the dawn of time say and do horrendous things, treat each other horribly, disrespect everything others may hold dear, BUT we all live here and we need to figure out how to live in this world with everybody else.
When the urge to tip the scale more in one direction or another arises, when we upset the equilibrium of humankind, what do we see? War? Abuse? Inhumane mistreatment of others? Yes, all of those things, but on a smaller scale, we see a hardening of the spirit and a disappearance of generosity toward one another that make it way harder for us to move forward. We as a species are only still here because, I believe, there is always slightly more of us who care to see us through to a better, if not just another day. We are moving quickly toward something scary and potentially irreversible, or at least difficult to reverse for a long while; unnecessary division, possible aggression, stagnation or worse, reversal of progress.
Everyday I try to remind myself that bad thinking, whether it’s a comic utterance of disgust because someone took my parking space, or a blast of self hatred because I didn’t get this song recorded on the first attempt, is not good. Not productive. Everyday I try and try to make my mind a little kinder, to the people around me, to the planet, and most importantly...to myself. It seems to me a good place to start if you would prefer not always thinking there are rat bastards at every turn.

Josh, I hope you get to read this comment. I've been feeling pretty horrible for the past two years or so, the worst part of it is that I've no clue how to express it. I'm not even sure if it's possible to mold it into words since it's nothing specific. Once tried to tell it to a friend and it came off bad. From the outside everything seems perfect, I have a loving family, I love being a uni student. I am utterly ashamed of myself having these bad feelings and of very the notion of trying to express it. So I usually just lock them out, take on a cynical attitude. I hide not only from others but from myself too. But man, do I feel like life is just a waiting room. I do feel happy a lot of times, but even then just can't shake off that feeling of being part of the endless patern repeating itself, that pointlessness... Your song broke down my first line of defence, after listening to it a few times I found myself crying, after realising it ,started crying even more. I don't recall any song having this effect on me. But it feels good. It was an immensely honest moment. Thank you. Thanks for your new album, thank for your honesty. It means quite much to me.

The great thing about Josh leaving the RHCP is that I just discovered his solo stuff and IMO I like it more than his RHCP stuff. It's not that his RHCP stuff is worse, but his solo stuff is more special and different, I don't know how to put it, but I am happy he will work on more stuff like this

Anger is a stage of grief that’s really hard not to get stuck in.
I wish for everyone to be kind to themselves and to think thoughts that feel good. We all feel down or act in anger from time to time and we never know what war others have inside themselves when they mistreat us, however if we do not uplift ourselves we end up just thinking more bad things (been there, done that). Although the same applies for positive thinking and expectations, the more we appreciate, love and empower others the more of the same comes to us. Es muy triste la canción, me pasó y me pasa de salir y desconfiar de todos y decir "Hay un Bastardo en cada lugar a donde voy, a veces escondido, a veces disfrazado de buena persona" y así es... y me encierro de vuelta y pienso en salir pero me doy cuenta de lo solitaria que es la vida cuando uno se da cuenta de las cosas que el resto de la gente que no piensa no se da cuenta... esta canción llega de esa manera.
