Used to work at napa. The filters are made by WIX. They’re the best in my opinion. By the way, your filters are two different numbers. Your old filter is 2487 and your new one is a 2488. That’s why its thicker..
As others have said, clean the MAF and the throttle body while you are in there. It is fairly easy and makes a big difference in the performance of the 'burb. I own a 2004 by the way. Over 210,000 miles on it!
Good video, I've used Napa before. Napa is good. But I use K&N now. K&N is better. I recently cleaned my K&N filter before we took a trip to CO from IL, 1000 mile drive. We had much improved MPG just from this. My MPG went from around 13.6 - 14.3 to 15.5 - 17.2 on this trip. Check out the comparison videos out there on the inside of these filters and judge for yourself. Keep up the good content!
I went to the Toyota dealer, and bought the same filter number but it was half the size. Even the parts guys were baffled. I used to buy napa years ago so i ordered the gold filter, Just as thick as my oem. Also got the platinum for the cabin filter. I had enough debris in the filter over a year, I could not see the sun loking through the filter. Good review. Now i know wix too!
When I replace air filter I also replace pcv valve, scrubb throttle body, spray valve intake cleaner, and spray clean MAF, and lastly on a almost empty gas tank a can of seafoam. Truck runs like beast. I've always used motorcraft but I like what you showed on NAPA GOLD will try one next. Another thing i do is when replacing the air filter i take my air compressor to the air filter box blow all the dust dirt sand out of AF box.
Love the channel. I started using the K&N. They are much more expensive but last much, much longer. Some of the them can be cleaned and re-used, which saves a lot of money buying new ones.
I recently bought an 06 Silverado with the 5.3. After a couple months, I pulled the existing (Fram) air filter at my 3,000 oil change interval, and it was really, REALLY bad! Gravel roads. Need I say more. Couldn’t replace it fast enough. Running the Napa Gold as well. I’m confident in it.
I prefer napa gold as well. After i buy a new to me vehicle i replace all fluids with high quality synthetics and replace air filter with napa gold. Every time the napa gold has more and/or deeper pleats than the one I'm replacing. Other commenters have said to replace pcv and clean intake and maf at the same time. Good practice. Too bad Project Farm didn't include them in his trial.
i am a professional mechanic i work but i work on meduim/heavy duty stuff like dump trucks and such and i see tons of problems with aftermarket filters failing and causing engines and fuel systems to fail so i always whenever possible go with the OE filter i have both a Ford and a Chevy k1500 i use motorcraft and acdelco filters but if i cant get the OE filter for what ever i am working on i get Wix which napa rebrands. napa filters are wix. i think wix/napa filters are good but i would use a ac delco if you can get one next time. napa filter is still a good choice
Napa has three levels of product. Basically Good, Better,Best. More cost more as you go up, but just as Jimmy showed the product had more surface area. The same is true of brake rotors. Different metals are used. Don’t buy cheap brakes people, that’s the thing that stops the car. I always spend the money on the Gold Napa parts.
Napa golds/Wix is very respected name in the filter world, can't go wrong with them. Working many years in the field as a welder, most of the filters on commercial engines were Baldwin and Wix. Stay away from any reusable type of performance filters, no engine company or dealership will recommend them. Also stay away from any unknown bargain internet brands.
I would definitely recommend a reusable/washable dry air filter. They have much better flow than standard paper filters, they filter better, and they have none of the hassle of oiling the element. I bought an AEM dry filter off Amazon for around $60 for my 1991 Chevrolet V2500 Suburban. I instantly noticed the difference. What’s cool is I’ll never have to buy another one, and It’ll pay for it self after just a few washes. On a side note, I love your passion for your Suburban’s and your mostly stock aesthetic. I have only had my Suburban for just over a year now and I have really become a Suburban lover too. I am working on making it look as nice as yours, and I’m trying to do as much of the work myself. Keep up the good work!
Last year I switched to a k&n filter, I did feel a small difference in the throttle BUT I lost 1 mpg. I have an 2006 Silverado with the 4.8 V8 with 112,000. 1 mpg doesn’t seem like much but in the 8 months I used the k&n my average mpg was 19.1. Before the with the paper filter I was getting 20.4 mpg. I don’t know why the difference but this week I switched back to paper filters. I drive for a living so I keep records of my mileage.
The difference you’re seeing In the filter depth is the difference in part number, not because one is a gold and one Isn’t. The one ending in 7 is a standard size filter and the one engine in 8 is called the high capacity filter. This is true for wix, napa, and possibly microguard filters for the 99-06 gmt800.
I use a HKS Super Hybrid Sports filter in my Stagea RS4S. It's a three layer foam filter, foam element is replaceable. Had it for a month, works great. Pipercross foam filter in the Saab 9000 Aero, washable. Been using that one for years, never had a problem. It uses an additive for particle retention, but the Aero doesn't have a MAF sensor, so no issue here. :)
Hey Jimmy, Have you ever tried K&N? I ran ACdelco in my 04 Silverado 5.3L for quite some time. However, I wanted to try K&N and must say, I was impressed. I've had my 04 since it had I'm guessing around 11000 miles. So I was pretty used to my truck to say the least. I installed the K&N and drove it home. It made just enough difference to the point where if my truck was climbing up a hill on a highway with the cruise control on, it would no longer need to shift to a lower gear for a little extra power to maintain a 55 MPH speed. I also gained a little MPG as well. I haven't tried a K&N yet in my 91 K1500 5.7L but all my other cars have K&N. I would recommend. I'm planning on a cold air intake test on either my 04 or my 91. I think the 91 could use such more and I kinda use the 91 as a test dummy. Although I don't think less of the 91 at all. Love both of my trucks. Love the Channel!!
K&N ARE JUNK they let in dirt .... had one on my truck an on the clean side was a film of dirt on the intake tube from using it an YES it was oiled the right way
Should off checked on your throttle body too , it might be dirty too , but first check if the throttle is electric or old school by wires , if it's old-school then clean it right away normally, open it with your hand and so on , if it's electric don't touch it , clean it by turning on the ignition switch and let someone press the gass padel and that will open your throttle up clean it with good cleaner without touching it , use a brush or something .
NAPA gold is good stuff, those filters are made by WIX and they are not a lesser product. They are however a cheaper price than branded WIX. In my experience if you want good parts you can't go wrong with NAPA Gold products. They are all made by top tier manufactures.
Still use K AND N IN MY GMC CANYON,MAND IN Dodge Journey: no problems after 11 years and 2 years plus respectively... though may change to NAPA GOLD soon.... ps: I do not like extra-Bright headlights, oncoming lights blinding me : Interestingly proper alignment, legal issues, cleaning lenses, and Windshields ( inside also) and Lowering Instrument panel inside glare SHOULD BE ALL THAT IS REQUIRED,,,Frankly, to many hi intensity illegal & not aimed: lights plugged into many trucks ( and cars).......
A gm guy? Don't let the Japanese car fanboys hear you say that. They would see that as blasphemy against their beloved Toyotas. I'm also an American car fanboy. I love my dodge . I just bought a carquest "premium" air filter, the filter was nl where near as thick or long as the napa, you've made me a bit wistful. I'm sure mine will do just fine as long as I change it within the 12k miles. The fram max I had in said it's good for 2 years, lol. It was FILTHY after 11 months 17k miles, glad I checked and replaced it.
No, I own the exact truck (97 Tahoe 4 Door 4WD 5.7L) And it takes a tubular filter. I personally have an aftermarket CAI but I still have the OEM Casing and it takes a tubular filter. Im sure NAPA Gold sells one for it.
Use K &N on both vehicles,:2007 GMC CANYON 4 CYL,and 2015 Journey 4 CYL SO COR ; no problems so far; May switch to elm or NAPA GOLD,ETC. UNSURE ABOut irregular light additions: to glare oncoming and poor , I stick with original and Proper AIMING , CLEAN WINDOWS/beams, and instrument panel lowers glare/dim,
Have you ever tested whether it's really worth it to purchase a Dooxi cabin air filter?I saw that the purchase page in the video should be this one:dooxi.com I just clicked on their advertisement, and I was curious about that!

I use them on just about everything. My father was a GM mechanic and he never used acDelco filters. NAPA gold are damn amazing
Good to know! 👍
Manufactured by Wix and i use Napa Gold on my Flex 09' awd

I'm sure by blowing air in the air box the dirt particals are getting in the intake tube ready to be sucked in the engine
Love the channel. I started using the K&N. They are much more expensive but last much, much longer. Some of the them can be cleaned and re-used, which saves a lot of money buying new ones.
Ac delco also makes a standard and high capacity version for that application.

I use Napa Gold in my Ford Vehicles and they’re simply the best stock replacements.
I love the Napa Gold line never let me down
I had that same filter on my 2012 Chevy Silverado and swapped it out with a k&n filter and my mpg went up and my exhaust got a little bit louder
An got dust in intake. Lol

I agree and love to stick with OEM but like you said, I think these filters we're top notch.

That ridgid vac is the best by the way. I love mine
You should do a spectre cold air intake I run one in a 02 yukon and I have no complaints

AC Delco/GM makes the Best Air filters. ' Great filtration an Airflow
Napa Rocks!!!
I have used napa parts and filters for years i would use no other
👍👍
@@1RoadGarage Napa Gold oil and air filters are manufactured by WIX. They even have VERY similar numbers on the boxes.
I always use the Subaru dealership oem on my 11 outback

Nice to see the difference if paying a few bucks more for the gold filter. I generally buy an OEM one from the dealership and install it myself.
I was actually shocked to see that big of a difference.

Better than fram
you forgot the Auxbeam link

How do you only have 8k subs?
Better filtering at expense of flow penalty which gives you worse gas mileage.
Have you ever tested whether it's really worth it to purchase a Dooxi cabin air filter?I saw that the purchase page in the video should be this one:dooxi.com
I just clicked on their advertisement, and I was curious about that!
Since you have a '95 Sub and I just got a neglected '92 GMC (5.7) I may be picking your brain a bit. Cheers.
67dodgepolara sounds good!!
How much?
$24.50 otd
1 Road nice! Come to think of it I haven’t checked my suburban’s filter in a while.! Thanks for the reminder!
I use the AC Delco on my gmc. Looking at some comparisons online, the ac delco performs just as well as a K&N with more filtration..
goo.gl/images/F7dneY
kinda looks like a orange fram filter
K&N Cold Air Intake in 03 GMC Yukon XL
I got a $330 kit for my 03 Sierra 4.8
Fram Ultra
OE Air Filters are better in my humble opinion.
5:05 - OHHhhhhh they're garbage
K&N
Have you ever had an issue with the mass air flow sensor using the k&n?
1 Road I only use the air filter.
Just buy the drop-in K&N. I had no issue with the MAF but I did clean the throttle body that day
