I think one huge contributing factor why the zombies tried to dig into the basement is that the ladder down there reaches down to the floor. The pathing AI has x-ray vision and sees ladders inside structures as viable paths to the player. Learned this the hard way on one of the first horde nights on 1.0. The horde started beating on my base rather than following the stairs up to my fighting position. Removing the ladder solved the issue. The weird thing is why they did this now and not on the previous hordes, but this game does weird things from time to time. If the zombie AI even imagines an obstacle they start hitting things, and if that deforms the terrain it start forming an actual obstacle and and all of a sudden you have a giant pit in your backyard.
That's a really good point! I might try putting a break in it, so I have to jump to reach it. I've also got another solution to the problem which definitely worked on A21, but not sure if it's still valid :)
the wooden hatches are speed bumps to the higher level zombies. May be enough to reload and regain bearings before they smash it which is still not useless. Iron hatches can last a bit if you want an actual serious barrier. 3000 hp on those for 10 iron bars which isn't bad.
to see your game stage just go like you are looking at quest and challenges right next to them is a tab that is like group of people click it shows game stage and level...
Yeah that is a big poi. Ran it twice. Real big pain in the ass to get around when it makes you go out on the balconies. At least its not Dishong Tower.
Love Red Dwarf!
