I had to view this one a second time. One of the best looking vehicles ever designed and this one with the sliver color that really brings out the design.

Hi Lou you had a beautiful day to show us a beautiful automobile! I wouldn't change a thing if this was my car. You don't get to see these much anymore unfortunately. The styling was just over the top. AMC was a small company so they had to try harder!
AMC always an acquired taste with a really loyal enthusiast following. I love the AMX and Rebel and all the Javelin series. The David to the big 3's Goliath. Best sounding/looking AMC I've ever heard!
WOW.......I bought my 1973 Javelin in 1993......I thought I had had it a long time!!!! Mine was a Faun Bidge base model. I added the AMX rear spoiler (common dealer add on) and painted it BBO. As a two owner car she is very streight and a great car. I feel the 2nd gen Javelins are very under rated and often over looked. I have the factory mats in brown as my interior is brown and tan. Nice car BTW

My aunt had a 1973 Javelin. The same aunt that had the 1968 Ambassador SST when it finally croaked. Her's was equipped with a 304 engine with an automatic. That AMX is slick! I like that carburetor setup and the manual 4-speed manual transmission with a 401 engine in front! What a beauty!
This 401 4 speed brings back a specific memory, back in 1974 my Challenger 360 4 speed was 3 days old and on my way to work a Black 73' Javelin AMX 401 4 speed caught me at a stop light and that was my first street race in the Challenger...also the black charcoal canister was a real throw-back....was also in the Challenger.
Awesome AMC Dale! I have a Real Love for this Beauty! Absolutely 💯! So Cool! The Best AMC in my eyes. It Killed me when AMC was sold to Chrysler. Pontiac and Oldsmobile when they left I cried. So 3 times my heart was broken. Glad to see you’re keeping it Alive and well. 😊
I get that the car as factory equipped was/is a rare bird, but IMO the owner has done such a complete job with the correct AMX stuff, I like it as is. I think (for me) I'd add power steering and brakes. It already has 'the correct number of pedals' ;) Also neat hood! I've never seen a functional cowl induction hood on an AMC. Thx for featuring that Lou!
amazing condition, I had a 74 AMX that I restored for over 35 years and know how difficult it is to located any parts for these cars. Thanks to you Lou for showing us this rare mint example !
If you type into UA-cam search "My Car Story with Lou AMX" or "My Car Story with Lou Javelin" or "My Car Story with Lou AMC" I think you'll see MANY more you'll enjoy.
I always liked the body on these cars. It always reminded me of Speed Racers brothers car, Racer X. His car resembled the Jav... again, a nice find Lou. You have been like Mayo lately. You have been on a roll...! 😂
An iconic original muscle car back then 1973 Javelin - just the engineering of this car looks million of years old giving us this beauty today perfected -- a Gladiator car with real roaring power and body style .. love it Lou ... great work -- thanks
My neighbor down the street had a short body AMX with side pipes. It was a Hunter Green if I remember correctly. That was 1972 and I was 12 then. AMC always had great muscle but everyone was either GM Ford or Chrysler. For me actually The Machine in Navy Blue was probably my favorite because it was different, and that’s the premise of owning a muscle car in the muscle car era. Great Videos, Thank You Lou!!!!
Hi Big Mountain, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou P.S. was it like this? ua-cam.com/video/IVu7CMp8usk/v-deo.html
@@loucostabile No it’s the short body version with the big AMX badge on the c-pillar. It had the ram air hood instead of cowl induction. The fun was out the back door of my house and down the street was a Dodge Chrysler Plymouth and AMC dealer and across the street was a Chevy dealer. So as a little kid I could play in probably the best muscle cars that were produced. My dad knew the owners of both dealerships.

Very nice Javelin, Lou. I was also 10 when the guy next door came home with one of these. It was red with white trim and I loved it, very cool and different from the usual. I really love the silver and black with black interior and I still think they have the nicest cockpit of all. I wouldn't change a thing, Dale. Thanks for sharing!
¡Excelente trabajo Lou!
Thanks for posting Lou. Unlike so many of the cars you post I don't know anyone that had one of these beauties. However my sister wanted one but alas could not get financed. So she bought a Plymouth Duster....reliable car but no Javelin...Thanks for posting Lou. Gods blessings to you always!

I can really appreciate what it took to get that Javelin at the level Mr. Wright has gotten his. Extremely detailed and finished. Amazing. I own a 1973 360 4 speed Javelin. I have a long way to go before it is anywhere near as finished as this car. I'd like to get in touch with Mr. Wright about finding parts and especially having my Motorcraft 4300 carb restored by the man that worked on his.
Great car. AMC did an awesome job with exterior and interior styling, and the build quality looks very good. This was my favorite paint color as well. I oftentimes wondered where AMC would have been had they continued? Don't judge me, but 18 year old me fell in love with AMC Pacer and was prepared to buy a new '75 model ...until I took it for a test drive. No sooner did I leave the dealer's lot and discovered how gutless it was, and how bad the brakes were. I ended up buying a new '75 Chevy Nova instead. This gentleman has a special car, of which must pretty rare by now. As always, thanks Lou!
I’ll say it all comes to flavor lou it could always be changed if someone else found it but if the owner likes the Amex goodies on it, then that’s where the love comes from
Hi Lando W., Happy to read the Javelin is your favorite. If you type into UA-cam search "My Car Story with Lou Javelin" & "My Car Story with Lou AMX" I think you'll see some videos you enjoy. Lou P.S. Here is one I think you'll like ua-cam.com/video/BmLkZ8VvcUo/v-deo.html
While I was growing up in the 1970's [even before I had my license] , the Javelin and the 1974 to 78 Matador coupe were the cars I'd dreamed about owning. Another rare car which I liked would be the 1967 AMC Marlin.
I think the upgrades he did are great and to his liking, If he kept it in the original form I don't think it'll be worth that much money, the way he has it it's worth more to him , In its original form it would not bring money like a boss 429 an LS6 Chevelle Or a 71 Hemi Cuda, Kudos to you Mr. Wrght it's a great car. And thank you Lou for the great video I like the uncut stuff of the geese and that buzzard haha
Lou, one thing I left out on the AMX was the build sheet, I have looked extensively for it. The front and back seats have been removed to find it, all the carpet has been removed as well. The clock and tack have been replaced years ago and I could not find it behind the drivers dash. With a mirror and drop light I looked behind the passengers dash, still to no avail. The only two areas left as to some reports, would be above the head liner and between the gas tank and trunk floor. Since the AMX has spent little time out doors, that area above the gas tank has not been looked at without dropping the tank. The head liner was glued in, so not really wanting to disturb it at all. Other than the original window sticker, the Holy Grail of AMC's has still evaded me. Thanks again for your kind words.
Anyone you know have a borescope? Can see on top of the tank or tight spots & no need to remove the tank. Wouldnt bother with the headliner. If its not on top of the tank the sheet was probably found and removed a long time ago. Some auto parts stores rent tools...maybe one rents those out. The lighted ones are awesome. Checked inside my gas tank, inside cylinders, shows up very clear on the screen.
Hi Lou! Great Javelin. Keep it as is. That, to me, has all the best qualities of a muscle car, engine, color combo and sound. I love the paint details. See you on the next Lou's Wild Kingdom! God bless!!
Yeah Lou, another 'hit'! I always loved the AMX/Javelin, maybe in the future it could hopefully be about a SC/Rambler or 'The Machine' as long as your in the AMC vein? Thanks and keep 'er goin' brother!
Yeah lonnyjaw, Happy to read you "always loved the AMX/Javelin" :-) Here you go Brother for you to enjoy. Lou 1) SC/Rambler ua-cam.com/video/pn77Ovsk4RI/v-deo.html & 2) The Machine ua-cam.com/video/X2w7RyyYsV8/v-deo.html
By 73, that lusty 401 likely was being choked by the emissions thing...what was the rated ghp on that engine?...It certainly still sounds awesome, and has lots of torque!...I so wish that AMC could have survived another 50 years; they made many fine cars, but frequently were behind the curve, in knowing just what the American public wanted...and of course, they were strapped for cash, compared to the Big Three.
Once again Lou spares no effort exploring the highways and byways of America to find the perfect isolated stretch of road without posted speed limits, and then times his video perfectly to correspond with the shift change at the local police station many miles away, to ensure yet another high-octane My Car Story Ride! ;-)
Dale, I just found this video. You did an amazing job restoring my old Javelin I had back in 1976. I'm glad it survived after all these years. That car was always a blast to drive ! Awesome video and car.
Hey Kevin. If we ever run into each other again I’d love for you to take it for a drive. So thankful to have the original engine data tag and your old photos! Best regards.
@@dalewright6480 Hi Dale, That video brought back a lot of fun memories. I still remember going with my dad to buy that car for $ 975.00. from the original owner. I had a 6 cyl. Gremlin at the time. Message me the next show you are going to. We are down in Florida now but still come up North a lot. 👍
At 12:14, we see the unique “space saver” spare tire which had to be inflated by a canister! I totally forgot about those. I never had one like that. My ‘67 Fairlane, ‘71 Duster, ‘73 Chrysler, and ‘70 Dart all had full size spares. My next car was a ‘79 Cutlass Supreme which had a space saver spare like the ones that most cars have now. Makes me curious now as to which manufacturers used this style spare and what years they were used.
Lou great job on this car. As always your video is stellar. Every part of this car is so clean. The engine bay is spotless. I was in basic training in 1970 and the Captain of our unit had an AMX. At that time the Javelin and AMX were distinct models. The AMX didn't have a back seat and was the hot rod of American Motors. It seems by 73 that there was only a Javelin with an AMX option. Either the owner didn't know that or forgot to mention that detail. I think it's cool that the owner has the big engine, four speed, and AMX option.

Back around 1981, or thereabouts, I remember a fellow shipmate in the U.S. Coast Guard had a Javelin like this. It was purple with a 304 two barrel. I do remember riding in the passenger seat and thinking it looked more like an airplane inside than a car. Whoever said AMC made ugly cars never really took a hard look at one of these, they are a rolling piece of art sculpture! Remember the Matador? Like Studebaker, the styling was too over the top for the time.

Nothing wrong with the looks of a "base" Javelin, as all Javelins were/are great looking cars, but on balance I would probably say retain the AMX accoutrements. Most likely what I would do if she were mine. Thanks as always Lou for sharing this impressive and well-preserved example of American Motors muscle. It's also all-American automotive and cultural history as well. Happy New Year!! 🥂🥂🍾🍾🎉🎉🥳🥳
Wow, super sharp and very clean javelin I've owned many of these cars... and this has to be one of the nicest examples that I've seen... People don't really understand how difficult it is to build a javelin of this quality as the parts are so hard to find and not much reproduced . Very nice!!!!!
Thanks Steve. This car won the AMO American Cup in 2019 and was selected to participate in AACA Zenith competition last year. Its far exceeded any expectation I had when restoring the car. I appreciate the kind remarks.

Best ever looking 73 car along with the 73 Trans Am and Firebird Formula w the hood scoops
High praise :-)
A lot of things signify *sprinter*! Short, light car, short gearing!!!
My favorite cars are the ones that were owned by people for multiple decades. It feels like I'm looking at a good marriage and that just cheers me right up.
I hope I can keep my school years' car as long as Dale!
Hi Streuner, Happy to read this cheers you up :-) Lou
I had to view this one a second time.
One of the best looking vehicles ever designed and this one with the sliver color that really brings out the design.

Engine was strong as an anvil!
Hi Lou you had a beautiful day to show us a beautiful automobile! I wouldn't change a thing if this was my car. You don't get to see these much anymore unfortunately. The styling was just over the top. AMC was a small company so they had to try harder!
Hi Deacon Blue, Happy to read you enjoy this car just the way it is. Glad to read you enjoy the styling of this car. Lou

AMC always an acquired taste with a really loyal enthusiast following. I love the AMX and Rebel and all the Javelin series. The David to the big 3's Goliath. Best sounding/looking AMC I've ever heard!
Hi Tom, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and sounds from this car :-) Lou
WOW.......I bought my 1973 Javelin in 1993......I thought I had had it a long time!!!! Mine was a Faun Bidge base model. I added the AMX rear spoiler (common dealer add on) and painted it BBO. As a two owner car she is very streight and a great car. I feel the 2nd gen Javelins are very under rated and often over looked. I have the factory mats in brown as my interior is brown and tan. Nice car BTW
Hi Dave Van, Happy to read you have a cool car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That car is gorgeous. I wouldn’t change a thing.
If I owned it, I’d be driving it !!

Hi JON, Happy to read "looks stunning!" Appreciate the kind words on this video. You're welcome, Lou
Mom had a base 73 javelin with the 304 and automatic it was a nice car l really enjoyed this episode the owner should keep it the way he likes it.

Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi LICobra, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
One of the last great muscle cars. Dale had done it up just right and his wife is a Sammy Hagar fan to boot. Living right.👍
Hi Carmudgeon, Happy to read you enjoy this car. Glad to read you enjoy the way Dale's done this one, Lou
Very nice Lou… Another one of Kenoshas finest. I would not change a thing on this Javelin.
Hi Brad, Happy to read you enjoy this car as is :-) Lou
Wow.. Beautiful car! I recently picked up a 74 Javelin and will be restoring it soon.
Hi Weekend Garage, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you. Hoping your car comes out exactly how you'd like it. Lou
Hi gene978, High praise :-) Lou
I get that the car as factory equipped was/is a rare bird, but IMO the owner has done such a complete job with the correct AMX stuff, I like it as is. I think (for me) I'd add power steering and brakes. It already has 'the correct number of pedals' ;) Also neat hood! I've never seen a functional cowl induction hood on an AMC. Thx for featuring that Lou!
Hi Adam, Happy to read you like this one as is :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
What a gorgeous clean car... congrats!... Keep as is... AMX badging on a base souped up Javelin ! No harm done.
Hi CDN Citizen, Happy to read you enjoy this "gorgeous clean car" :-) Lou
amazing condition, I had a 74 AMX that I restored for over 35 years and know how difficult it is to located any parts for these cars. Thanks to you Lou for showing us this rare mint example !

Nice :-)
You are a real one for keeping it so long!
Leave it with the AMX setup since it is part of the family after 34 years. The 401 sounds great.
Hi Denaalb, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Glad to read you enjoy the sounds from this 401 :-) Lou
Very cool car. It definitely needs to stay as it came from the factory with the 401. Thanks Lou.

After I got my 72, then saw this design, I could've cried. They really nailed this design. Gorgeous!
Hi Island Don, High praise for this design :-) Lou
I always liked the body on these cars. It always reminded me of Speed Racers brothers car, Racer X. His car resembled the Jav... again, a nice find Lou. You have been like Mayo lately. You have been on a roll...! 😂

An iconic original muscle car back then 1973 Javelin - just the engineering of this car looks million of years old giving us this beauty today perfected -- a Gladiator car with real roaring power and body style .. love it Lou ... great work -- thanks
Hi Noel, " a Gladiator car with real roaring power and body style" Well said! Happy to read "love it" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Love these. I don’t know how he made every aspect of this car look brand new.

Very nice Javelin, Lou. I was also 10 when the guy next door came home with one of these. It was red with white trim and I loved it, very cool and different from the usual. That Javelin is a great car. A mega “attaboy” to AMC for making a lot with what they didn’t have…a bunch of money!
Hi Donald, Happy to read this is a "great car" :-) Lou
¡Excelente trabajo Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the bulging fenders and brochures too :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou

Rare car Lou that was nice to see a 401/4 speed.
Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car el wrencho :-)
I can really appreciate what it took to get that Javelin at the level Mr. Wright has gotten his. Extremely detailed and finished. Amazing. I own a 1973 360 4 speed Javelin. I have a long way to go before it is anywhere near as finished as this car. I'd like to get in touch with Mr. Wright about finding parts and especially having my Motorcraft 4300 carb restored by the man that worked on his.
Hi Joseph, Happy to read you appreciate the effort to get this car looking like this :-) Lou
Hi Mike YQR, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-) Thank you for sharing your Pacer / Nova story. You're welcome, Lou
I’ll say it all comes to flavor lou it could always be changed if someone else found it but if the owner likes the Amex goodies on it, then that’s where the love comes from

While I was growing up in the 1970's [even before I had my license] , the Javelin and the 1974 to 78 Matador coupe were the cars I'd dreamed about owning. Another rare car which I liked would be the 1967 AMC Marlin.

Three thumbs up for an all around great and fun video. I think it should remain an AMX. But he should do want makes him happy. Love the exhaust notes.
Hi Delray Shaffer, High praise :-) Glad to read your thoughts on this car, Lou
I think the upgrades he did are great and to his liking, If he kept it in the original form I don't think it'll be worth that much money, the way he has it it's worth more to him , In its original form it would not bring money like a boss 429 an LS6 Chevelle Or a 71 Hemi Cuda, Kudos to you Mr. Wrght it's a great car.
And thank you Lou for the great video I like the uncut stuff of the geese and that buzzard haha
Hi Scott K, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad to read you enjoy the "uncut stuff" :-) Lou
Ed, Hope that build sheet ends up showing up for you soon, Lou
God bless!!

Hi Curbozer Boomer, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Once again Lou spares no effort exploring the highways and byways of America to find the perfect isolated stretch of road without posted speed limits, and then times his video perfectly to correspond with the shift change at the local police station many miles away, to ensure yet another high-octane My Car Story Ride! ;-)

@@KevinO-i6qWill do. Planning to to to AMO Nationals in SC next summer. And for sure the Kenosha Homecoming next year too.

😍Great looking Javelin!!!!👍
NICE !!!!

Definitely had that cockpit feel to it. Aunts 68 Jav was similar...great legroom if youre a tall passenger
