    How to dodge and burn in Luminar NEO the "right" way. Dodge and burn is a technique for controlling the brightness values through our photos enabling us to sculpt the light to our choosing. This technique was developed in the darkroom and is still used in high end retouching today. If you don't know dodge and burn you NEED to add it to your photo editing skillset!

    Although NEO has had the addition of a dodge and burn tool since this video was recorded, due to its tendency to over saturate I would STILL recommend the approach laid out in this video. What's your experience of the dodge and burn tool?

    It would be awesome if you did a tutorial as to where you lighten/darken.

    G'day Anthony
    I've another method which I D&B.
    I often use the develop tool and of course masking. In the develope tools, use contrast, shadows, black and white points. I also use the curves in the develope tools to control further.

    This INSANELY good! It's such a useful feature for photo editing and the way you explain and demonstrate it is so clear. I watch other instructors and your content / delivery / humor is without doubt the best around. Keep doing what you do!

    I know the tutorial was not aimed at fixing the line in the background but you did attempt it. Perhaps just do the change before doing D/B by using Erase and Click>Shift>Click with small brush to then remove the line and fill the space with the b/g of the rest of the studio b/g. Just a thought worth mentioning to users of NEO.

    So, I not only watched this video twice but also applied your advice to an actual portrait, and the result was outstanding! Thanks again for sharing such pro tips!
    I use this opportunity to make a request: you use the blend mode of layers. The different types of modes are pretty obscure and not very well explained in the Luminar notice. Wouldn't it be a good idea to make a tutorial on these options?

    MrT Once again I really enjoyed your technique 2 to the subject of burning and dodging. Hi Anthony! Very interesting, if difficult method of dodging and burning - but I still prefer the old 'Dodge and Burn' tools. 😾 Yes, Luminar has portrait tools, which I use, especially to 'clean up' poor complexions, like acne and other ugly spots! 😺 By the way, did you manage to receive the photos I emailed to you? Regards. Felix the Cat. 🐱

    Thank you I really appreciated this instruction. You asked for ideas on editing. Living in the UK and doing mainly bird photography I find I am using very high ISO (6400 on my Panasonic G9) to get usable shutter speeds. So how about editing a photo with significant noise using Neo. I personally use Topaz Denoise AI as I do not find Neo's noise reduction works as well as I would hope. This is more than likely that I don't really know how to use the tool correctly. I am an amateur in both photography and editing. But really feel I'm leaning from your fine videos.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому

      Thanks. I think you're definitely in the right place with Topaz DeNoise. It's the best there is for dealing with high iso.
      I appreciate the suggestion!

      Hi John, it's in the video description usually found beneath the vid. Sometimes you need to click the "show more" option. Anyway, Here's the link: amzn.to/33mJxwN (best brand and best size and pressure sensitivity etc for photo editing IMHO)

    Anthony: Does pressure sensitivity work on Neo with the Wacom tablet?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому

      Hi John, Unfortunately currently in NEO it's not registering the pressure. We get the mapping but no pressure sensitivity. I hope this will be addressed in future updates.

    Hi thank you for the video lessons. Please kindly let me know how to add new same layer ? I can not open it from my RAW original photo, so I saved it as JPEG and load . Is this the right way ?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Huk. My layers were opened as raw copies so I'm not sure why that's not working for you. However, a jpeg version used as screen or multiply will be more than adequate to be used for dodge and burn. 🔥
