    The first time any man ever wanted a shorter shaft, fkn legend

    a bit of girth over length 👌

    an excellent idea to shorten the drive shaft to solve the vibration very good best regards

    Where would you get a custom cv shaft manufactured? I'm attempting to get an Audi flange to Holden spline cv shaft but cant find any company to do it.

    Me nan seemed impressed, salivating while muttering about welds with a dangerous gleam in her eye... should I be worried?

    Some shaft that fella

    Would some plug welds along the sleeve to the shaft underneath help? or not worth it. Top content as always looking forward to updates on the rear brake disk conversion kit 👍

      I was thinking the same. Although not as much rotation speed, that’s what I’ve done with my electric steering conversion

      Wouldn't get any meaningful penetration due to the thickness of the shaft. The reason i used the positioner to weld the sleeve is because this allows me to weld with a constant amperage and weld pool allowing for much more reliable penetration compared to stop starting.

    I can't help but think welding case hardened steel will have affected the heat treated properties, I have a feeling you might be replacing this one sooner or later, when I've welded heat treated parts in the past, they've always cracked at the weld. Might be an idea to get a custom shaft made up to keep spare?

      That was the plan. Unfortunately new shaft wouldn’t arrive for 7-8 weeks. At which point the season is over. This is only a temp measure to see me through the remaining season.

      Fair enough, hopefully it holds up until then!

    Nicely done. Cv grease is the devil 😖

    How did you get the actual measurements for the length it needed to be?

    • @GizFab
      @GizFab  13 днів тому

      By Ensuring the was enough plunge in the inner cv cup through suspension travel

    Would it not be stronger to weld the shaft together first, then slide the sleeve over it and weld the shaft to the sleeve?
    3 welds rather than the two?
    Won't this allow the shaft to move in the middle putting stress on the welds?

    • @GizFab
      @GizFab  2 роки тому

      Shafts will warp when welding them like that. Making it impossible to get the sleeve over as the shafts won’t be perfectly aligned.

    Is it holding still??? How much torque/ power it has? Also how much would be this kind of job? I'm having a similar issue of axles length

      It lasted maybe another 200 miles of track abuse before it finally gave up. I had the shaft remade proper.

    What grade steel did you use for the tube if I may ask?

    I realise it's too late but they couldn't have extended the splines 10mm then loped the end off and cut the circlip groove again? less than half the work of new shafts.

      Was my first call. But can’t re machine once hardened.

    You could've lengthened the lower control arm

      No need as the issue was the shaft.

  • @nathanaelwarden
    @nathanaelwarden 2 роки тому +3

    You couldn't have made a better job of that if you'd tried. Short of having the proper machining tools to actually manufacture drive shafts, I think you did as well as you could have done with it. I hope it holds up to the punishment
