    Your patience with this project gave me patience with my cr250 build. Finished the engine in april, put the gearstack in wrong and blew the left case in half and cracked the right. Took three months to find cases and get it rebuilt by a friend of mine who had a good amount more experience than I do. Got on it for the first time yesterday and I slept like a baby last night.

    One day when your happy with your piston design you should consider getting it coated. Calico coatings does stuff for top fuel dragsters and all sorts of other engines. I had my turbo 800 hp 4 cylinder pistons done. The reduction in fiction and wear was just amazing. After a really hard season the skirts of the pistons still looked like the day I put it together. Just a thought....it's pretty reasonably priced. Not much at all.

    • @krazed0451
      @krazed0451 4 роки тому +3

      Surely if you apply a hardened coating to the piston the barrel becomes the wear item?

    • @bradappel9928
      @bradappel9928 4 роки тому +11

      @@krazed0451 no not for the piston skirt... its not a super harded coating like a black Diamond coating for wrist pins.... it's like a Teflon coating just better and too there design many piston manufacturer do a similar coating to there pistons for stock factory cars like bmw or even toyota now.....when you touch it it's smooth and with oil on it it's extremely slippery. It's like insurance....if you run low on oil once it could save the piston or the bore. But it does wear away if the conditions are poor..too tight a clearance or not enough oil so on and so on ...it's only 1 too 2 thousands thick. The cylinder liner would be much "harder" check it out sometime look into coating it's really a amazing add on to any build. Most common parts would be piston skirts and main bearings. They do have super hard coatings for wrist pins and rocker arms also ceramic coatings for the top of the piston to reflect the heat out and away from the engine.

    • @krazed0451
      @krazed0451 4 роки тому +1

      These are easy to rebuild and rings will never last. You have to remember this is basically the 49cc equivalent to an f1 engine as far as longevity is concerned. However, any increase in power from even a 1% reduction in friction may be worth it for a build aiming to be "the most powerful two stroke." Interesting suggestion.

    You can cut thin metal sheets with a small chisel and hammer on top of a mild steel plate that's softer than the chisel. I use to cut thick pieces as well like 3-5mm steel, first I drill a few holes along the cutting line and then put it in a vice and cut along the edge of the jaw between the holes and then clean up the edge with a file. You can cut fairly thick flat bars like this as well if you run out of hack saw blads and cutting discs.

    Great video! Always enjoy popping in to check out your videos. Haven't done the math for your compression ratio, but most race gas engines have a piston quench of .015 or an inch. And that's mostly for valve relief. At .5mm your close to .020 of an inch. You don't have any values to worry about. I think you mentioned using nitro fule? If that's what your going to use you might consider tightening the piston to head clearance to .015 or even .010 of an inch. This would net more torque. Also, this would be interesting to see in a forced air induction?
