I agree with you about shifters. I much prefer the simplicity of a column shifter or even just a normal PRNDL console shifter like the one we have in our GMC Canyon. Fortunately you can still get a column shifter in the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado if you order the bench seat in trims that offer that option. Also, you mentioned that Ford should take notes from GM regarding their 10-speed automatic; the longitudinal 10-speed automatic that GM uses is actually the exact same unit Ford uses. GM and Ford developed a couple of transmissions together in a technology share agreement with Ford taking the lead on the longitudinal 10-speed and GM taking the lead on the transverse 9-speed. Ford ended up opting out of using the 9-speed in their transverse applications (probably a good thing since the 9-speed has been very troublesome for GM) and both companies use the 10-speed in their longitudinal applications. That's not to say there isn't a difference between GM and Ford applications of the transmission, it's likely they each use their own proprietary computers and programming to operate the transmission which could alter shift points and such, just an interesting piece of automotive trivia.
I must say that I agree about the column shifters. I find it pretty funny that they decided to take away center console storage space in order to mount the shifter there, especially Ford and their egregiously pointless fold flat shifter. I mean cmon, if you just had it column mounted it would be out of the way. I owned a previous gen silverado with the center console and the storage area now taken up by the shifter was a huge plus to me, I could fit my gloves, phone, wallet, gum, and sunglasses case in that cavern.
I have the 2022 ZR2 Silverado, I have to say its a super super comfortable truck. Glad I saved like 7k with the Chevy, and yeah the Manual mode pisses me off since it doesn't really up shift when I force it to....it does when it decides to, like it's a limit for the trans like if I shift up to 7th gear for instance, it just won't go passed it, but it certainly won't just got straight to the gear. The clearance is more difference because of the 32 vs 33 inch tires too
My whole life, my dad has driven a 5.3 Chevy v8 Tahoe… until 2 years ago. Drove an ‘00 LS to almost 200k and a ‘12 LS to 170k and honestly I think he would’ve driven those trucks longer had he not beat them to death by using them as trash cans and letting them sit in saltwater at boat ramps. He got a 2018 5.3 LS Tahoe and was surprised that he was spending almost 20 grand more than 6 years prior. Similar engine but it was the tech that sucked. Made the truck undrivable due to it literally limiting speeds to 20 mph At least once a week for a month (right after the 40k warranty expired)(this essentially stranded him as his commute is 45 mins of interstate driving). Went through two fuel pumps, infotainment constantly bugged out, and the 55k mile truck was in the shop constantly. After being told nonchalantly by a Chevy tech that “they make them to break”, he found a used 4Runner and has been driving it since. Says he will never buy a GM product again.
Was expecting more sound from this 6.2L. Had a 2021 F150 5.0L and it sounded way better stock. Unfortunately sold it because the dealer gave me more than I paid for it after a year 😂
My father ordered a gmc canyon at4. He was going to get this but wanted a mid size pickup instead of full size. I like gmc trucks but need big money if you want a baller truck
I agree the AT4 package is sharp but I cannot imagine why someone would purchase GM right now, especially Chevy. You pay a considerable premium and so much of their engineering seems half thought out. For example. They give you this random electronic shifter that just sits there. For 80k at least give it the option to lay itself down or give it a turn knob instead or something! I don’t understand how GM gets away with their pricing.
Why would you ever want a knob that you'll mistake for the volume and tuning wheels or a cheap folding piece of junk like what Ford's putting in the F-150? There's literally nothing wrong with a normal shifter. I wish every car had one. People like you, who want things to be over-engineered just for the sake of commanding higher prices, are the reason we have exploding car prices and garbage vehicles that are designed to break like iPhones...
It's an AT4X. You can get very well loaded Sierra SLT/Silverado LTZ for $63-64,000. Every Ford I've seen for that price is still an XLT and is missing $4-5000 worth of options to get close.
Since the motor they use on this truck is the same as a Camaro. You can just drop a supercharger on top of it and have a little bit more extra horsepower. It’s not too much of a bad idea it might void your warranty. That’s if you want something faster.
Idk who else would like this idea but I want gm to make a new Silverado ss, so what I was thinking was it would be a single cab short bed with like an RST interior, so you could get leather, center console etc, 5.5L Supercharged V8 (out of the c8 z06) and the 8 spd, maybe a manual option (unlikely but still), rwd
You dont buy a truck for speed you buy it for towing capabilities. You cant have the best of both worlds between horsepower AND torque out of the gate with a NA engine. If I want speed Ill get a sports car. Having a supercharged truck with 600+ HP is just not necessary for most situations. Sure its cool as shit but not realistic or feasible for most people
It's the "hey put your seat belt on" chime. If you start the car with the seat belt fastened, it probably won't make those dings, that's been my experience in other vehicles.
AT4x is the best looking truck By far. But I still don’t think it’s as nice or quite as good of a truck as the RAM Limited. But it’s not like 2019 where you’d be a fool to buy anything but a RAM. With the other 3 bringing big (overdue) updates- I think all of the “big 4” trucks are good enough now where it’s hard to go wrong- each has a few strengths and it’s hard to argue with whatever your preference is.
It’s a sharp lookin truck but I must say, FORD and their 5.0 Coyote has the market on lock. Much more efficient engine in a faster truck with an engine note that cannot be matched. GMC is a great truck, the FORD just stands alone
Thats a biased take. The Coyote has nothing crazy that will switch someone over from what they like. Its a different style of design and does make some good power up top, but the LT1 outworks it in Torque at a much lower RPM. I haven't see much comparison, but I'd guess the Chevy is more comfortable towing and doing truck things, while the Coyote is great if you like the extra getup on the high end. Plus at the end of the day the LS is king of all, still. Theres a reason you see old ford trucks at auto shows sporting LS engines.
GM has been trying to convert car/suv sales to truck sales so they keep making the 1500 more and more like a car. That’s why the column shifter is gone. A half ton is not a real truck anyways.
buy a jeep instead and live in it and travel around the states and start vlogging you have a better chance at that then paying off your truck in 5-7 years when its worth nothing
It is supremely disappointing that GM is dropping the battle proven and amazing LT4 engine even in the Escalade now- but no love for the Silverado and Sierra??? Does it look like ford and Ram are having a hard time selling supercharged monster trucks??
C'mon people! Stop paying these ridiculous prices, and they'll come down for the rest of us who actually want to retire someday! (if you're paying $800+/month for a new truck, you're never retiring...don't kid yourself)
He did say this was recorded in Boulder, CO right? It's a naturally aspirated V8, of course it's going to feel 'just adequate'. At that elevation it would be theoretically capable of producing around 350hp, or about the same as the 5.3l at sea level.
You're NOT suppose to drive a brand-new vehicle aggressively with under 500 to 600 miles on it and this 6.2 L 420hp engine is tried and true it's also used in The Cadillac Escalade and of course the nearly equal Chevrolet Silverado. And those 2 lenses on the tailgate One with a camera.and the second was light for backing up for the trailer hitch.
Eighty grand 😂😂😂😂. That's base Escalade money right there. It cost even more than a GMC Yukon Denali. I'm not sure how this truck makes sense to anyone. Eighth grand for this 😂. Considering the sea of better alternatives in the market. This kind of money makes more sense for a Yukon SUV, and not a truck. The interior of this truck isn't worth $80,000
Dude theres a comfort to watching you drive, cant explain it but i appreciate the content🙏🙏 keep it up
Fr tho it’s so satisfying
totally...

80k is insane. Who wants a 1300 car payment for 7 years. The truck market is broken
Black edition Ridgeline going for $70k + taxes in Canada here...
Broken does not even begin to describe it. 🫨🫣
everything's rigged and marked up 1000 percent
and terrible mpg
Exactly why it’s wiser to get a used truck, especially if you’re putting it to work! Some of these trucks depreciate in value fast anyways.
I love GM’s new noise
Now THAT’S a unit.

I love the GMC trucks..if only i could hit the lottery to afford one
Facts.
Right. Exactly what I was thinking.
That Interior looks amazing!
0:45 The 1975 Robbers... nice, great song
I like watching videos by TheTopher :)
Gm should add the zl1camero super charged v8 on the sierra and Silverado

Yeah the 5 OH is in a class by itself for efficiency and def it’s sophisticated sound
they sound great but need exhaust
going to go test drive one this week. other reviews are saying this thing is quick for a truck. im wondering if the elevation is killing your power ?
Substitute Topher more thorough than Topher Topher, I like

Yeah but Denalis aren't even off road capable
@@porfiriato84 he's not buying for offroad. He's buying it because he just wants a nice truck
@@carljohnson7 I'm simply stating Denalis are expensive AF yet aren't off road capable.
@@porfiriato84 they're made for luxury not offroad. Of course they aren't gonna be stock off road capably. :/

I'm aware of this. I know a couple people who bought one thinking that and ended up selling it.
Facts Idk why companies are moving away from Column shifter?

I’ve got an 04 Sierra with the 4 speed auto, my shifts are not smooth 😐
how does it feel to be 98 years old?

Beautiful truck but if I’m not in the position to buy it straight up cash I’m best just admiring it through UA-cam lol 😆
did u stop doing sound system tests
Wonder why this doesn't have the AEV bumpers.

Nuts
if i was a millionaire i would not spend 80k on this, now i understood why GM is having a hard time selling there cars.
Trucks have become house on wheels. I really don't blame them but goddamn man.
And need to take out a mortgage to get one
That's definitely an understatement! 😬😮💨

Colorado zr2 video?
Is it okay to drive downtown
i wish we could get these in aus

It should have a steel front bumper
You do have super cruise, press and hold the cruise cancel button and you can toggle between normal and super cruise
You're are at 5300ft elevation so power output is less
80k lol it’s a nice truck but that’s easily 20-30k over what it should be in my opinion
It's about 20k over what a loaded SLT would be.
lmao i rather just buy a 2015 1500 denali that will do for me
C'mon people! Stop paying these ridiculous prices, and they'll come down for the rest of us who actually want to retire someday! (if you're paying $800+/month for a new truck, you're never retiring...don't kid yourself)
Bruh i have the same colour same model and same interior ❤
$81k for just adequate power? Yikes.
But it’s a 6000lb truck, you can’t expect a big thing like that to be fast. 420hp is enough to move a mountain. But it’s a pickup truck.
He did say this was recorded in Boulder, CO right? It's a naturally aspirated V8, of course it's going to feel 'just adequate'. At that elevation it would be theoretically capable of producing around 350hp, or about the same as the 5.3l at sea level.
6.2 V8 420hp and barely gets out of its own way..
Definitely not. Pretty quick truck. He’s in Colorado, high elevation so it doesn’t seem so in the video
At his elevation the truck would be about equivalent to a 5.3l at sea level. Elevation sucks
