    ENFP 5w4 here. Shan's thought process and communication style is exactly the way mine is. ENFP 5w4 is definitely a real type combination. Not every ENFP is going to have the same upbringing and be exactly the same. Our experiences, culture, mental health, and how we were raised will all play into how an ENFP looks from the outside.

    I am also an ENFP-A 5w4 & got mistyped as an INFJ several times. But after studying MBTI more in details with all those cognitive functions and features of ENFP, I could relate myself with the inner thought process of an ENFP but the outer behaviours were really hard to relate. I thought, "Why are ENFPs be represented as clowns or immature grown babies?! Am I even an ENFP?"
    Then when I began to analyze some of my nature as an ENFP and finally came to know about enneagram with the winging types, I finally could find out that my type is a rare type which is ENFP-A 5w4 & often mistyped as an introvert. It’s really good to see another same typed ENFP as me. Her expressions, way of having outfit, communication style, behaviour, thoughts are also same as me. 💙

    The emoting for an INTJ in my opinion is the use of Fi+Te to synthetically make what appears to be Fe. It requires development of both functions to be able to do vs Fe being a single function. it is not real Fe. We are not looking for generic harmony, we are self reflecting on our values (Fi) and deciding what the most objective and efficient way to go about it is (Te); which could be harmony in that particular situation, but it's not for the sake of harmony alone. We are doing it because we care about the person or the outcome. So we decide to play the game not because we want to, but because we value the outcome. In fact, we still hate it because it can feel inauthentic. An example is when someone is venting to me and doesn't want a solution. Naturally my Te wants to find a solution, but then I realize that is not what they want, and I value (fi) them and want them to feel better, so I tell them what will make them feel better. But we do not like doing this because it goes against our own authenticity which is also associated with Fi. So, when an INTJ shows this trait it means they have a very well developed Fi and can actually pit the two values against each other and then put the Te out in a semi-Fe way. But we can not do this for a long time, as it is very draining. It requires a lot practice to be able to do it without being called out. - INTJ 5W4

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  3 роки тому +6

      Yes! Fi and Te used in combination can somewhat mimic the effect of Fe. However it comes from a different starting place than it would for a Fe user. Thank you for your insights, Adam! :) There's a lot of truth in what you wrote.

    • @smazynashiya8234
      @smazynashiya8234 Рік тому

      As an Fi+Te user, I can say that, the Fi+Te or Te+Fi any of one combination can be seem like Fe if used with balance. I think none of them are unimportant. I also prioritise authenticity. But I perceive and measure them with my Fi then my Te starts working. For example, if somebody vents out something on me, I see they are just venting out all those things and this is hurting me, venting out something doesn’t seem right to me and I cannot express it until I refer them an alternative to cope with it but solution may not work at this moment. But to say what should be done at the moment, I should know and listen at first what's really happening. After some moment, roaming around some time in my head, I begin to ask them what really happened and if there is something I can do for that or not. If not (that's most of the case), then I ask them to tell what really happened. Then I try to understand, processing and analyzing all those things and asking questions after questions at a time. Then gradually, I express my point of view depending on what I heard from them, they also try to explain me the things in more details. Then analyzing the problems itself, I try to make them understand what could be done to cope with the situation instead of venting that out, because doing this I feel bad too. Maybe they do not need any solution that moment, or maybe there is nothing to do or no solution at the moment about the problem, but you could cope with that in a different way. They have no right to spoil the peace of my mind or the environment, they could share anything with me instead of venting out. They have their rights to express their emotions because that might make them feel better. But that doesn’t mean venting out can bring any solution neither can make the feelings better anyway, rather it could make everything worse because that only brings impatience and breaks all the peace. They could simply share that to feel better at least. Or if they think there might have something to do or need solution about that, they might directly ask for solution. What you need? Solution or emotional peace or support? Feeling bad? I'll try my best. But don't vent out. You have a reason to feel bad but I would not even have a reason to feel bad if you behave like that. That's what I try to make them understand. 😅
      - ENFP-A 5w4.

      @@smazynashiya8234 hi, it seems to me, that you clearly need to set boundaries to that person, that vents to you non stop. Venting is important, but it's important to THEM to figure out what they need in life. They can't use you all the time as target. They have to find other outlets. 😅

      @adambankoff8525 hi, as an Fi-Te- user, I have to add, that solutions often have to be found in the feeling/subjective realm. Solving something means not only to find Te- objective solutions but to also get your Fi- needs and desires straight. And the solutions might be quite subjective as what works for others might not work for this Individuum.😊

    One thing common for Enfps are their eye movements, constantly looking up/down left/right when recalling some incident or just .. talking. Is it Ne looking for creativity or is it Si trying to remember the details.. or is it both because personally I don't exactly remember some incidents to detail so I'll just say something similar with the help of my creative Ne.

    The part where Michael talks about a gap in consciousness under stress for the INTJ, how we can become un triggerable or close to it. I can relate to that, the greater the stress or seriousness of the outcome the greater the gap. On the battlefield I use to say it felt like I was 50 feet up in the air, the body still reacting to the stress but the distance was great. I was calm and seeing things from a birds eye view in my mind. Great conversation guys

    (INTJ 584 5w4 sx>sp) I experience the "mental choke" frequently when delivering information verbally. If I have to articulate a detailed concept or idea it is vastly easier for me to do so through writing. If the situation simply calls for a snap judgement my Ni can handle that. But to organize my thoughts and arguments in a coherent manner, I have to write it down.

    Thank you everyone for sharing! There doesn’t seem to be as much 5w4 content out there, especially for those seeking to explore more deeply.
    On the cognitive dissonance subject, it is like we have the function but feel emotionally detached from it. As an INFJ 5w4 I am aware of other’s emotions and do mirror emotional energy levels back to others without thinking about it. But inside I feel rather detached from others energy. I can consciously know when emotions are taking a situation sideways and how to introduce a point in a way that is more receptive. I struggle sometimes to ‘feel’ others in an internal way unless the other person’s energy is really powerful or is in tune with something that is already deeply personal within myself. As Michael was saying, analyzing other’s emotions feels almost like an out-of-body experience compared with the analytical side, which feels like home.
    I very much relate Shannon’s thinking regarding the lack of emotional response in early childhood possibly leading one to be more like a 5. I had basically the same experience. I felt in my case I had to be the adult in the room emotionally speaking, at least since 5 years old. That and intellect seemed the only safe place to explore freely.
    This emotional detachment, even from one’s own emotions, comes out in some interesting ways. I’ve had multiple occasions where different people can tell that I’m embarrassed by something because my face becomes flush. I’m not even consciously aware of that till they mention it. Even after they mention it I still feel somewhat detached from the emotions of it. And it feels almost unfair that others can read me almost as easily as I can read them as an INFJ!
    I like how Shannon is able to monitor and be aware of her emotional levels and when it needs to be processed. I feel I’m far less aware of those levels as an INFJ 5w4. The technique that helps me process is to ask my emotional self lots of yes/no questions. Based on how my body/emotions respond I can help narrow down to why I am feeling what I am feeling. (This narrowing down feels very Ni!) And I can tell I feel much better once my emotions feel heard and responded to. It’s easy to do this for other people, doing so with myself feels a challenge.
    Seeing different types process being 5w4 is super helpful for me clarifying where one aspect stops and the other begins. It's really clarifying for me. Thanks!
    P.S. Joyce, you might remember me from Meghan's group. Might be easier to put a face and a voice to a comment that way!

    Oh wwwoooowww, Joyce I just LOVE when you share your wealth of knowledge on all this. That is SO INTERESTING what you just said about us maybe having fewer mirror neurons. Maybe that's a key difference between Fe and Fi. Obviously there is more to it because just being unaware of the feelings of another person does not necessarily make you have a stronger Fi/values identity. So that's also an added factor. But also, when i am paying attention, I am good, naturally, at mirroring people. But it's just in situations where I am not paying attention and then I am hit with an emotional moment, then I need to refer to my Te repertoire of ways I've learned to read feelings (micro-expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc.). But once I get in that mode I naturally start doing it. It just seems to be difficult when coming out of Te. Actually, I really think it's a matter of focus. We are just NOT focused on people's emotions. We can do it if/when we focus on it but it's like, if you're looking at the sky, you don't see the ground you're walking on. But if you turn your attention to the ground, then of course you see the grass and rocks and dirt and hills and holes, etc. I think what's confusing for Fe users is that we (Fi users) can SEEM like we are focused on you, when really we're not always focused on you. I've learned to be very deliberate in my attention and focus with people because I think it's a show of respect to give someone your full attention and if I'm going to have a conversation with someone, then I'm going to give them my full attention. But when in a group setting, that focus cannot branch out and be directed at everyone at the same time. So I just pick up on whatever or whoever has my attention in that moment.

    INTJ Enneagram 5w6 here. I can never quite decide between 4 or 6 although "Troubleshooter" does fit me more than "Philosopher" but I can be that as well at times. I share so much with the 4s like the strengths, sensitivity and preference to almost always be alone, but not the weaknesses. My weaknesses match the 6 wing perfectly. I basically just narrowed it down to 6 because the weaknesses and because of the types of jobs that tend to go with 6s. I literally have had 4 of the 8 jobs listed for 5w6 (biologist, programmer, technician and professor/college TA/science lab teacher). Although I'm an excellent writer and do have a book I'm mapping out now that I want to write ONE DAY (which goes with 4 wing). I've wanted to be a writer since I was a little child and one day I'm actually going to do it. It's just that once you say it, you can't take it back and my need for privacy is so strong. But I'm gonna do it. But I digress.
    Anyway, I agree with everything Michael is saying. Except for one point. When he was talking about continuing to talk even though he's "got nothing", I don't resonate with continuing to talk when that happens. For me, I DO occasionally feel as if my mind has gone blank, that's that horrid Ni fragility and I do freeze up. It is as if while I'm in the middle of a conversation, my mind enters the abyss and starts floating out in empty space, looking for something on which to latch and bring me back to some tangible frame of reference. I think this happens when I get too far afield from one of my scaffolds/frameworks which I've explained in other comments on some of your other videos. I usually don't keep talking if this happens. I just stop and sit with it and allow my thoughts to find their way back to something tangible. It doesn't happen too often though thankfully because it's a mortifying feeling!

    (FiNe, 4w5, 5w4,1w9, sx/so) Yeah, the soulmate thing doesn't stop it just gets increasingly marginalised by growing understanding of reality. The 5 in me keeps getting stronger and experience tells me I just can't have that fiery love while also having literally anything else I'd want in life... I'd be exhausted and probably intellectually unfulfilled, and possibly resentful or passive-aggressive. Single for over a decade now, and not exactly satisfied about it, but accepting that it's a trade-off. The alternative, that most people take, is compromise, but that's not really an option for sx 4 Fi. I imagine I won't have a soulmate in a permanent, perfect, all-consuming sense... but perhaps I'll just have a lover again one day; someone with who those intense moments can be stolen from the rest of reality.

      im an enfp 4 sx/so and i just want to say this- you CAN have a "soul mate" type of love and also do other things in your life. the "soul mate" love will be so comfortable that it will be the one thing that is consistent as you explore all the other areas of your life. dont give up on finding it...that's the self deprecating fi we xnfp's and 4's possess speaking but it doesnt dictate potential and reality.

    I think part of the freeze in which you guys speak, has to do, in my INTJ/INFJ case anyway, with trying real hard to explain something to let you know with painstaking detail just what is involved with what I'm speaking about. But the silly thing I find often enough, is that I spend so much time on a prelude, ever trying to build the tension towards the goal, almost as if I'm writing a movie, that I may forget what was actually the first thought that brought up all the detail.
    IOW, I may be talking about the ratings system on car tires - that is my first thought. But I leave that basic thought for last, and instead give you a ton of buildup, and since I have to amuse myself as well, even expand upon that, perhaps even taking on an anticipated counter-argument too🤣. Basically, I'm not so much talking, as to exercise my brain, and as the main detail just became way too boring to me, I have to go all sorts of directions, and not too infrequently lose the base thought entirely.
    I think that may be what Micael is talking about somewhat, that's where the blank space comes. You've just put so much lovely detail into it, that you lose track of the conclusion. And actually, if you study your thought process on your thinking to yourself, I would bet you would find it's none too uncommon even there, because, in a sense, you will come back to that lost conclusion easily enough during the rest of the day, and the meat of the thing was what you were hammering out. The difficult bit is done, and a short bit later, you will find that conclusion again, only, to have a conversation that way, often doesn't work at all. You can just imagine somebody being almost spellbound, just loving the buildup, and then suddenly the film ends prematurely😆. I think the solution is to TRY to start with the conclusion, then explain it in more detail, in say 2-3 segments. We do just enjoy going so many places with our minds though.

    I gotta push back a bit Joyce when you were saying that 5 types maybe are just jaded and retreating after having been hurt too much (after listening to the conversation more, I see that you may have been referring more to the ENFP 5s). I don't think the jaded thing is true for me. I've always been this way. I think I've got a healthy relationship to my feelings. I can be very comfortable sharing emotions (negative and positive) and sit with others and support them as well in those moments when it's needed. I just have to transition into that space, out of thinking.
    I just think we INTJs just are not in that space very often because we have our feeling function below our thinking function so it's forgotten sometimes until something triggers it, like a loved one needing emotional support or someone crossing our values. The detachment isn't some reaction to past trauma. It's literally just a manifestation of our stack. You can't feel and think at the same time so if you have feeling below thinking, by definition, you are going to be more detached from your feelings relative to your thinking. It's not a negative response to anything. It just is. (I agree with what Michael said about predicting an emotional outcome and avoiding things that will elicit feelings that are not needed/healthy/helpful. And that was interesting Joyce how you pointed out that Te likes to anticipate as well - I had not realized that - yes that totally fits, I guess I just always figured that was my Ni influence but yeah it does feel like Te now that you mention it). Too bad we INTJs can't do that with our Fe and avoiding foot in mouth more often. lol

      It seems to me, that for people with Fe-Ti, it is difficult to listen to Te-Fi discussing their emotions, intentions and reasons. Just like it is difficult for Te-Fi listen to Fe-Ti talking about their emotions in relation to social behavior. That is probably reason for Te-Fi "faking" emotional expression (which Shannon talked about), to make Fe-Ti comfortable, and not going through emotional roller-coaster every time Te-Fi is around. INFJ Joyce looked really uncomfortable every time ENFP, INTJ discussed their emotions, which both Te-Fi were fine with, to a point of making jokes.

    Just an observation from an INTJ/5w4:
    Two-thirds of the way through listening, perhaps Shannon's 5w4 is in response to her being continually not accepted within a household of Thinkers, thus, she has unknowingly repressed how she expresses and understands her emotions. Perhaps she is truly a 4w5 and, if so, can begin to "individualize" away from the perhaps subtle, but chronic detachment she felt in her upbringing that leads her to type as a 5w4.

      I am ENFP 5w4 and you can have any ennegram with any MBTI type. Core fears and desires aren't reliant on how you take in and process information. It actually makes perfect sense for a type that explores possibilities and has a deep internal world to fear being incompetent and to feel the need to withdraw. Fi users can easily feel disconnected from the world, which can manifest into a type 4, 5 , (or 9 even), and that main Ne that craves new ideas and connections can easily want to be knowledgeable about things and feel secure in learning and feeling safe when in your own space.
      Adding on top of that that many ENFPs have symptoms of ADHD or straight up have ADHD/ADD which can manifest in withdrawing from people often and focusing on researching and learning about different topics for long periods of time, as well as anxiety surrounding being competent, it's not hard to see an ENFP that is type 5 or highly resonates with type 5.
