How to Find Samsung Washer Error Codes & Fix a Samsung Washer Not Spinning

- Someone gave me a Samsung WA40J3000WA washing machine that wouldn't spin. Figuring out why It wouldn't do that wasn't easy, but not the hardest, either. These types of machines seem to have the problem often, but putting it in Error Code mode / Diagnostics is SUPER EASY and the system is pretty robust on telling you exactly what's going on.
The first half of the video shows how to deal with error codes. The second half is the actual fix, because I haven't seen a lot of videos explaining how to deal with the TMR Code, as well as the TMR Sensor itself, which was the issue on our washer.

I've had this washer for a couple years now, and every so often I just want to toss it out. Its such a pain in the butt when it doesn't want to start, or drain water, or unlock the door. I've already had it serviced once, and to be honest, its probably just too smart for its own good. Meanwhile, my step father has a 30+ year old Washer that just won't die.
Its the old things that last longer, even automobiles. But, I am having the same exact problem, wont drain, but this began after 2 years of its purchase date.

@@carlenecascoe9650 Whirlpool, I believe, but usually it's the same machine and different brand name on top of it. I have no idea what the model number is, but it's from 1990 or so I think.

I have the hot & warm code. Unbalanced code. I changed the 4 rods thinking that was it but nope. When it gets to the spin cycle it starts to shake and the drum throws itself around. Then the washer stops and throws the code. Is there anything that stabilizes the drum?

Tried the discord link. Won’t pull up. Also how can you tell if the tub bearings are bad on this model. I have same, no spin issue. Done everything you recommended and much more I’ve researched. Tub bearing is the only thing left I can think of. I can feel a tiny bit of play on the shaft under agitator cover.

I have the same model washer. Following your video, I found one (green) of the three TMR sensor wires was severed. I think it is a design issue. The wires are too thin and it is so easy to be broken with that level of shaking when it's spinning. While I was fixing it I collected some data for testing the three components: Capacitor, Shift actuator, and TMR sensor. Hope it is helpful to those who need it.
1. Run capacitor (1). Capacitance = 45 µF ±5% (2). Check body shape.
2. Shift actuator (1).Ohm range: 1000-1100 Ω. (2) check wire.
3. TMR (tunnel magentoresistance) sensor. There are three wires: green, blue, and red. Using Ohm meter to measure, one should get these:
(a) Green-Blue = OL
(b) Green-Red = OL
(c) Blue-Red = 10 KΩ

During the spin cycle mine will spin up for a couple seconds and then stop. It then just sits there stalled out. Drain works fine at the beginning of the cycle and empties the tub. On the diagnostics, all lights are red and the Hot LED is flashing. Model WA40J3000AW/A2. Capacitor wires look good and no bubbling. Lever arm and cable look good. What do you think? Same sensor issue?
I have the same issue and we barely bought the damn thing. It washed normal the first few times but now the water empties but it doesn't spin the water out. It just stops.
@@CountSalazar I bought a new motor and clutch assembly and the issue remained. Ended up buying a new one.
@@csubroncs we ended up returning it and getting a whirlpool. Good thing we had barely bought it. No more Samsung appliances for us that's for sure.

Hi first I wanna thank you for taking the time to show people this stuff and give us a bit of info on it. I have this exact washer and the codes are hot and warm. Which in the video states a unbalanced load I have moved the clothes around still no spining. I have even taken everything out and tried to spin and still reads hot and warm indicating unbalanced load really not sure what else to try I have unplugged the washer and retried the diagnostic again still reading hot and warm! Any information or help is so appreciated!

You may have to press power, start/pause and temp at the same time to get into diagnostic mode.

My washer has the first listed error code, the "HOT" light only blinks. According to your chart the door lock is damaged by forcing it but it has never been forced and appears OK. Anyway the error prevents it from operating. Thanks for posting this video and the codes.

Thank you. You saved my life. My code was "HOT and Extra Large" --- took a pair of pliers and unhooked the door latch and it was back up and running again. Took 10 seconds. Without this video, I would have been clueless. YOU'RE A LEGEND MAN!!!

Hi Ben! My washer looks almost the same, except it has a soil level selection. I've had mine probably a month now and I noticed it will spin, then stop and spin again, etc. My clothes feel too wet at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions?
Your load is probably becoming unbalanced during the wash and/or spin cycle. I usually stop the spin cycle and rearrange it and it works fine. I find it does more often if I'm washing heavier articles like blue jeans
I have a similar model, WA45N3050AW/A4 that is doing the same thing! can you help??? it's giving a hot and warm blinking led during the spin cycle, manual says to redistribute load and re press the start button however this does not fix the issue. it will not complete the spin cycle at all, when it begins to spin, the basket hits the sides of the washer in all directions and never fully starts spinning, after it stops trying, it stops, unlocks, and starts beeping and giving the flashing error lights again.
Mine does the same, seems to be off balance but after I move the laundry around and try to “spin only” it still will refill and then drain and spray rinse and never spins out the clothes.

I have the hot and warm flashing lights. Unbalanced code. It doesn’t seem to matter what I put in there to wash and whether it’s SM, MED or LG load it still stops and sets off the code. Any advice on what it could be would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Ben. Thanks for the video. My Self-clean has a heavy vibration problem when it is draining out water, that shuts down the machine. It then begins to beep and the lights begin flashing. Thank you in advance for your advice

Is there anyway to bypass the lid lock? I have this model and get a Hot flashing led.
Remove the lock assembly, cut all the wires, and discard the lock assembly. Strip the Green, White, and Red wires. Twist the green and white wires together, and leave them together. The washer thinks the lock is LOCKED when the Red wire is added into the Green and White twist ( all 3 twisted together ). You can't leave all 3 twisted together all the time because the washer also looks for it to UN-LOCK. Leaving all three twisted into the LOCKED configuration seems to activate the pump a few seconds after the power is turned on . So, only add the Red wire when the door is closed and you want to begin a wash cycle. Remove the Red wire from the twist, after the wash cycle finishes, and before turning on the POWER for the next wash cycle. Leave the Green and White wires twisted together all the time.

I have this same machine. I start my load on small. It fills with water and starts the wash cycle after filling. It wash for about 3 minutes and then it starts filling up with water again, it not only fills up, it fills to a extra load.
What was your fix?

I only had the HOT light flash. The code guide you posted says it’s a problem with the door. But my machine works fine and there’s no issues with the door as it locks into place every time. The issue I’m having is that I’m only able to wash my clothes in hot water even when I select cold. It is hooked up right as it used to work perfectly fine. Any ideas as to what the issue is? 😥

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to verify it was a bad TMR sensor wire.
@@bensappliancesandjunk none of the local appliance parts dealers had a clue what it was, much less could provide one. I soldered & insulated the broken wire, also clipped off the zip tie holding the mate connector for a less stressed angle. Machine works again!
@@bkcurtin2621 Funny story. About a month ago, I had a guy bring in this EXACT washer to my store. Complaint was it'd try to start spinning up, then died. I looked at him and said "Bet its the TMR sensor". He had a deer-in-headlights look. He just said look at it and he'd pay what I wanted.
Take it apart and sure enough: Wire was frayed.
Fixed it and told him.
He then admitted to me he was a factory-authorized tech for Samsung for a few years, and he couldn't even figure this one out because it had a standard motor instead of a stator.
So somehow, me & my shop know more about Samsungs than the Samsung techs themselves know. It was really funny to me.
Mine is throwing the Hot & Warm code but even after I rearrange the load and it's loaded at 1/2 of the drum it still gives me the same error is there a way to recalibrate it?

Fantastic video. I also got the Hot & Cold code, and have had trouble with the washer not spinning at the end of a cycle. Oddly, if I shut it off & turn it on again, I can put it just in Spin mode and that works, so I had been doing that to get my laundry finished prior to seeing your video. After watching this video I feel confident going to go under the machine to see what's what now that I know what to look for. Thanks again!

How to calibrate that washer

We had this washer for little over 6 months, and it is great aside from the main issue it does not auto correct an un balanced load (Which is everytime) when this happens it will automatically start to fill with water. We usually, more often than usual would manually redistribute the load until the clothes can spin dry enough to place in the dryer. It takes about 3 hrs. to do one load. My old school washer was set and forget it... I miss that. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Great video!! I just subscribed! Thanks very much!!

We've had the samsung wa45n3050aw/a4 for about 2.5 years with no issues on the machine until about a month ago. Suddenly the machine is knocking when attempting the spin cycle on the quick wash with low cold water, stopping, and giving the unbalanced load error code. We're able to limp through a load by pulling out wet laundry and redistributing within the basket, however we have been unable to process laundry as we had consistently for the previous 2+ years.
There's been no significant change in the loads we're attempting to wash and I don't know why the machine would start being extra sensitive to unbalanced loads, or become unable to rebalance itself as I assume it has been doing up until now. I honestly don't even know where to start.
Any guidance or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

@@Themetalscrunchie I use my neighbors machine similar to this but has a small screen and will display code UE for unbalanced load. The only thing I suspect that there *might* be a counterbalance system with weights that helps offset unbalanced loads and maybe that is not working? I dealing with UE right now with blankets. Just pulled two blankets out and praying for it to finish.
I have a Samsung WA40J3000AW/AA washer. It is showing an "Extra Large" flashing code in diagnostic mode, which is a water supply issue from what I collect in this video. But the issue we are having is that it won't complete a wash cycle in any cycle, it will fill with water but won't wash. We have to switch it to the spin cycle to pump the water out. Could a water supply issue still be the problem?

I have a Samsung WA45N3050A ,the Eco warm light is flashing and all other light are on and steady, what could be the problem. ( I was washing rugs on heavy duty when it stopped and started chiming.)
FYI- Samsung regulates how hot the water can get. Putting it on hot will not solely draw hot water. It adds cold water as well. We needed straight hot water, so we bought two Y connectors with shut-off valves on each branch of the Y. One is hooked to our hot water spigot. The other is on the back of the washer on the cold water intake. We then added a black hose that goes from the hot water spigot to the cold water intake. When I want hot hot water, I open the valve on the Y at the hot water spigot, close the valve where the cold water line hooks into the Y on the back of the washer, and then open the valve where the hot water is coming into that same Y. Now I trick the washer into putting hot water into the machine when it thinks it's bringing in cold water. So dumb! I'm capable of deciding how hot I want my wash water to be. Hot, hot water is 100% necessary when washing clothes worn by welders, mechanics, engineers, farmers, etc. Not everyone wears casual clothing and stays relatively clean at work.
Very smart. I can't stand this company. They censor advice on Facebook. And brag about overcharging for products and parts. Our government approves. These things are not spontaneous. I just boil a stock pot of water. Start off small load as hot water turns on increase load size.
the code i am seeing is the extra large continues to blink. we just get beeps and it does not seem to fill and drain properly
Great evening Ben, how are U? I have the exact washer U are working on. My statement is, my washer makes a humming noise not allowing the water to fill, the lights still come on and even the function of the buttons, but no water filling.
Same machine, did diagnostic and got warm and hot flashing, thought It might be unbalanced so I rearranged it , tried doing that several times and it looks like it’s not draining but no matter what cycle I choose the dial and the LED in the box up top flash. Help😖

Mine looks the same except the Temp. button has an * EXTRA RINSE below the button just like the WATER LEVEL button * SPIN ONLY.
The code that I have is only the XLarge flashing, the water supply code. I am struggling with it. It will fill up and then drain without washing. I ran it on spin and it worked fine, ran it on rinse and spin and it worked fine. It will not work on any wash cycle though. Do you have any tips? Thanks!

Hi Ben. Great video by the way. I am wondering if you can give me your input on a problem with my Samsung model # WA45N3050AWA4 which looks almost like the one you have in the video except mine does not have a seperate SPIN button. After the spinning cycle, the clothes are still wet. I know it's not a clogging or water pump problem because the water goes out the drain tube no problem. It looks like it goes thru 3 rinse and spin cycles. I feel the machine spinning as it should and i just cant figure out why the clothes still come out wet. I even tried a cycle after pushing the spin only button with no luck. In addition when I press and hold the temp button for almost 10 seconds, it does not go into diagnostic mode at all. it only lghts up the extra rinse light on top as the TEMP and Extra Rinse are on the same button. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The temp button has an asterisk on it. When I hold for 3 seconds it only adds an extra rinse cycle. How do I put my machine in diagnostic mode?

Hi Ben, Thank you for sharing the how to. I have a Samsung washer looks similar. My model is WA44A3205AW. The water inlet was changed because the water wasn't filling the machine. So what could be wrong with the machine?
My washer is full of water, and will not do anything. Power on, pick a cycle setting, press start... Nothing! The cycle light just flashes.
I have only the hot light flashing diagnostic code. = Door switch\PCB.
The door switch\lock is operating.
I tested the motor 4.9ohm on both legs. Shift actuator is good, Resistor is good, wiring is good.
Possibly a failed PCB?
Trying to get it narrowed down as best I can before I replace a very pricey PCB.
Any thoughts?

If you look on the back of the washing machine, there should be a folded paper manual that has the code section and diagnostic section... ive had this same machine for maybe 5 years, and i just noticed the paper/manual taped on the back inside of a plastic covering.. Lol
I have this exact model but it won't do the diagnostics mode for me. The problem I'm having is it got stuck yesterday on the rinse setting and now won't do anything else.
My washer isn;t fully filling with water. I replaced the hoses and rubber gasket filters. I am getting the EXTRA LARGE LED flashing. If I hit the pause button, it tries to go back into the regular cycle but then tries to drain. Any help would be appreciated.
I have JUST the ‘cold’ light flashing. I’ve taken apart the unit head to clean it and make sure the buttons aren’t sticking. I’ve plugged and unplugged the unit, disconnected and connected the water lines and made sure they were open. It is ONLY when I try to run anything with hot water.

I have the same washer. I bought it used. First thing I did was do a self cleaning and there is all kinds of debris in the washer that didn’t drain out and I have tried putting it through the rinse cycle back to self cleaning about 6 time still debris!! Mine is not completely spinning out the loads but also every time I try to rebalance the load it will restart the rinse cycle and is wasting water and turns into a never ending load till I just stop it and let things drip dry. I also have the problem of a little plastic piece that broke off the front but the lid still locks?! Unless I put that piece in it wont run tho.... So we think we need to replace the suspension rods but i'm def worried I have additional problems. In the cycle I get the blinking hot and warm but after watching your video and holding the Temp button I get blinking hot, cool, extra high, low and child lock? Please help if possible. Its from 2019 and with only 2 people in the household living in the south, not used heavily, My model does not have a spin only option.

Hello, I watched your video and my machine panel flashes HOT. Nothing else is flashing. Looking for some guidance if you can. It wasn’t draining or spinning and I found that the pump impeller was broken. Ordered and replaced that and it drains now. No spin though. Thanks for any help you can provide.

My Samsung washer is off balance and it keeps spinning but I can’t turn it off by pushing the power button and it won’t unlock my washer. Mine comes up with just large blinking, code suggests leaking but i dont see any leaking any where. During wash I have to turn off washer and rearrange clothes and restart. Doesn't do it every wash???
I have a samsung wa40j3000aw/a2 give me a blinking cold code led after I got code and tried a quick wash, fills fine, agaitor runs, when wash done starts to spin but does not drain, checked hose for debris put a vacuum on drain and found nothing do you think I have bad drain pump. Hey Ben, Your video is super informative. I don't get an error code when I press the temp button and hold it. My washer worked fine till I decided to take it apart and clean it per following the instructions from another youtuber. It works fine but is off balance when I wash clothes. If I run a cycle with no clothes, it is fine and spins just perfectly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The Extra Large led is flashing. I replaced the circuit board.

Hello I recently scrubbed this washer down because it had a lot of build up around the edges inside and dust outside I think u may have spilled water inside and now it won’t work, turns on but doesn’t do anything it gives the code Hot & Warm please advise thank you
I got the Cold Led flashing.. and it said an issue with the power button... but it doesnt seem like a power button issue..and also the washer smells like something burnt

Hi. I watched the video & I am getting "Extra Large" blinking light.
The washer will get water, but empties right away. If I stop & put rinse spin. It will complete that cycle. No luck with any other. Just get lots of rings, but nothing happens. Help pls.
