If you turn the parcel straps over at the join and pull the end they come apart.
Loving the video boys.
That's some good advice Jonathan 😁
Delicious!!! Wheels!!!
great update guys... A good anchor is the cheapest and best boat insurance. oh and that cow facing the wrong way was sending you blokes an invitation. 😂
We trust our anchor, the CQR have a bad reputation but we like it. Yeah the cow 🤣
Grate video lads
Cheers 😆
Old chain onto a second anchor? Great low cost insurance for when you need two. Or when you lose the primary. Clean it, paint it, bag it, with shackles.
We promised our old chain to someone but yeah could have, although we are short on space, Atlas in bulging 😆
I''m sure it has been suggested: tie the last bit of chain to the boat with rope that reaches the bowsprit; in case you ever need to ditch your anchorage and can't get the anchor up , you tie on a float and cut the rope and off you go and return later to retrieve the anchor.....
That is a awesome idea Bruce 👍👌
good job, still the best real sailing channel on youtube¡¡¡¡
Thanks very much Pol, love your support
'The wheels on the tender go round and round'
Round and round, round and round all day long 🤣
Preparations going well thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Ian much appreciated
Hi guys. The contraption you had the tender on is called “a launching trolly or trailer. 2. The seizing wire is to go through the shackle pin eye and twisted round the shackle itself to ensure it doesn’t come undone!!!! This to be done on ALL shackles which do not need to be undone regularly. Capt JB
Hi John, yes we know all this, luke just couldn't think of the words. And all our shackles have seizing wire on 👍
Hi Adam & Luke, so where do I start, yes, mouse the shackle pin to the shackle, so they should always stay together. Always keep the old chain, you never know…..?
Traffic light sequence ( RED - AMBER - GREEN ) chain marker.
Don’t forget to mark the dinghy!! I lost a brand new Seago just like yours by not doing so. Include a phone number, just in case an honest person should find it if it’s lost.
As for the skooters, they will become invaluable very quickly.
It looks like you’ll soon be passing Porto, Tally Ho !!!! Kind Regards, Barnacle Bern SY Cadbri SW Wales 👍👍👀
Thanks Bernie much appreciated for all the information mate, they are so really good tips there. we would have kept our old anchor chain but we promised it to someone, these scooters are amazing for getting around 😉😀
I binned the seat on our tender after 6 months of never using it. We always sit on the sides and the seat just adds weight and gets in the way.
We like it so far, nice to have a place to sit
Nice dinghy guys, well worth the wait. Please get yourself a roll of butyl tape and throw any silicone away, that stuff is useless on boats. Andy UK
That's what Sail Life uses all the time, we need to get some of that for sure Andy
Looks like Christmas has come early.. Great to see you guys having fun.
Long time coming for the new tender Micky and the brand new chain, thanks bud 👍
Watching the dingy being inflated made me laugh so much I fell off the cockpit seat. It really was a spectacular bit of cinema. But you have reminded me I must get an anchor swivel, what a good idea. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. With all this outside boat work you guys must be fitter! I've lost 10 kgs in wait and only £2000 in getting Atlantic Ready. Really enjoy your prep for the ocean blue. Best, David
Thanks David, the Anchor swivel is a good idea, our chained was Jumping Through the Gypsy and twisting before. We have lost a little bit of weight I think we need to eat more cheese 🧀😋
Good stuff! More to watch!🥳🥳⛵️⛵️
😁😁😁😁😁
Loving the progress. Can't wait for your Atlantic videos to start coming through. 🛴
Soon they will start 😁
I love your videos. Thank you! delicious! Greetings from Germany. 👍
Delicious 🤣🤣 greetings to Germany
Good luck boys, I lost my Brother and find it heart warming watching you two work together .
Really sorry 😞, working together is what good Brothers do, although we do fight a little off camera
Go..... boys !
👍👍⛵⛵⛵
I bought a second hand dinghy for £260, put it in the water and I couldn't bail fast enough! 🤣 that was a bargain and essential for your adventures. Gets some sharp drill bits! That was painful to watch Luke! 😂 fair winds 👍🏴☠️⛵
🤣🤣🤣 thanks Matt
Sweet love the new wheels... errr tender err... boat wheelie?? LOL nice tender guys! Awesome episode!! Keep sailing and stay safe on your passage!!
New tender with wheels, it's been so long living with that leaking old tender 😁👍
@@TheSailingBrothers Glad you gents got a new one!! :)
Ahhhhh!
A break in me re watching around Britain for the second time,
It went by so quickly though 🥲
Until the next one lads,
Take care,
Thanks Martin 👌😊🙏
New chain is a wondrous thing.....
Shiny and clean 😁
Shiny and clean 😁
Loved the look on your faces when you received your new goodies ,like a couple of kids at Christmas And then you get your scooters
Great stuff
My friend watched you sail out of the estuary so I know you are well on your way
Good luck and plod on
We are certainly kids at Heart Rob. We are on our way now, the videos are around 4 weeks behind due to filming, editing, proof watching and uploading etc. That was a great day leaving the estuary
Hi love watching you guys.... always entertaining and often instructive. I would suggest that you apply seizing wire to both shackles at the anchor to stop pins coming undone on shackles. Also for the last length of chain at the "bitter end" paint a longer section of chain or some yellow paint every 6 inches so you know you have reached the end when paying out.
If you are paying out maximum scope under winch power you don't want to rip the end out of the boat and lose the lot overboard. (assuming you have secured the bitter end).
Good point, but also use a spare line to secure the bitter end to Atlas. You may want to release the chain quickly & cutting a chain is way easier than a siezed shackle. ⛵️
We run a fleet of charter boats and find that paint does not last very long on anchor chain. We therefore use strips of spinnaker fabric tied through the chain - it goes through the windlass OK, and can usually be seen well below the water level if the sea is clear enough. FWIW we mark using traffic light colours - green at 10 (getting ready to go), yellow at 20 then red at thirty (definitely stopped) then go around again. They generally work the same whatever country you come from!
Yeah the paint is already coming off in the chain locker. Thanks for your advice 👍 giving us some good ideas 💡
Saw those two scooters in Muros !!!! Big cheers and safe sailing south !!
Sure did, thanks for the cheese 🧀 😁😋
good vid lads cant wait for the sailing again hope u can catch so more fish next trip :)
We do hope to catch some fish on passage Paul
We do hope to catch some fish on passage Paul
2 new shackles between anchor and swivel , and make sure you mouse the shackle pins and your good to go
Of course 👍✌
You all got two new wheels: Adam, Luke, & Dinghy! lol
To right 😅
Not keen on slatted floor tender , not easy to put away , air floor is better. The paint won’t stay on ,it wears off quickly depending on how frequent you use it , but anyway, you won’t be using it crossing the Atlantic lol . Many sailors don’t like swivels because they can become a weak point in the system and some also say they are not needed, I don’t have one myself. Not criticism just comments
We would have preferred an air floor but we couldn't really afford it David. Once the paint wears off the chain we are going to fit little bit of line or fabric to Mark every 10 m. Let's hope the swivel does it's job thanks for your comments David 👍
should have ordered a knife to open ya boxes lol
I know 🤣😂
That tender is fantastic boys!!, I can see Adam now finding any excuse to drag that up a beach heh heh, and the scooters, great fun :) will you be replacing the two anchor shackles with one big new one?, fair winds lads...
It's about time we had a new tender, and let's hope the scooters will last the trip. we have replaced the large shackle with a new one Chris 😁👍
you should name it the" love me Tender"
I'm sure we will come up with a name sooner or later Nigel
Hi Adam, hi Luke,
I love it to watch your great Videos, my dream is a sailing trip around Britain in the future also.
I am looking forward to follow you on the Atlantic trip! Be careful with the Orcas in Spain and the weather on the way back to England.
One question from my side, I remember the room tour through your boat and you mentioned that you do not have a fridge, only the insulated box. I assume for warmer regions you should have the possibility to cool down the cheese, what do you think about it? If the seawater is fare above 20°C there is no option to cool down anything without a fridge. Are you planning to upgrade your box with a cooling unit?
Have a safe journey and fair winds!
Cheers and greetings from Europe (Germany) to UK (former Europe;-)
Achim
We highly recommend sailing around Britain it's amazing. They have been quite a few orca attacks around Spain and Portugal must be careful. We do not have a fridge at the moment, but we are looking at installing a lot more solar panels, watch this space. greetings to you in Germany thanks for watching and commenting
Can I suggest a way for marking the anchor chain. Think of the flags of the UK, France, USA, Netherlands. What are the colours? Red, white and blue. Everyone would give that answer with the colours always in that order; red, white, blue. Use cable ties - 1 red, ten metres, two reds, 20 metres, 3 reds, 30 metres, 1 white 40 metres etc, . You know red starts at 10 metres, white starts at 40, blue at 70 if you needed that much. Or you could reduce the progressions to 5 metres.
Once the paint where's off we will try cable ties, thanks for the advice Rob 👍
@@TheSailingBrothers Much cheaper than the "Anchor markers" from marine chandler's. You know what it's like; because you you own a boat you're automatically a multi millionaire! Just wondering, did ever watch any of the UA-cam vids from sailing s.v. Bora Bora? An English couple who set sail from Devon and eventually made their way around the Carribbean and then back to Devon. A really nice couple, I watched their entire journey.
How did you secure the chain into the anchor compartment?
Fair Winds!⛵🇺🇸
Shackled it to a fixing plate in thr chain locker
The end of the the anchor chain is called the bitter end, as in the expression. If you are ever anchored on a lee shore and the weather picks up, Murphys law dictates that your anchor may become jammed on a rock or your windlass won’t work. Either situation could result in disaster, hence you should be able to cut the bitter end in a hurry and ditch your anchor, hence the expression, at the bitter end. Stay safe, use some rope to tie it in, else Murphy may show himself! It’s just not worth the risk. Good sailing guys and fair weather.
Did you put that wire thou the D shackle as won't take long for it to losend then good bye only chain come up
Yes we did Glenn, do not want to lose our anchor
Cqr old school anchor invest in a rancor or mantus
We love our cqr
ok guys I put stainless steel on a galvonised chain and the stajnless steel was eaten away...you cannot mix the two,,,,
Right, thanks Geoffrey
Great job lads, personally I don’t like those anchors you have, I’v got a delta now. Id recommended a delta, Rocna or Manson supreme
Cheers Ash
Those anchors have a lot of bad press but we have found she always holds well and digs in. We would have upgrade to a modern anchor but it would not fit in the Anchor Locker on deck, it would have to stay over the bow which we don't really want. 😉
@@TheSailingBrothers fair play, I can see from your round Brit you didn’t have any issues, Iv had issues down here in Falmouth and around the Isles of Scilly so ditched it for my delta, it’s whatever works for your best I suppose 🙌🏼
I'm not a sailor and I am enjoying the series. I find some things confusing like why a shackle is okay for an anchor chain but not for a bosun's chair-can anyone let me know why?
Glad you are enjoying Chris 😉, it's about safely we should have tied on as well
You have an uncanny ability to find baby wheel barrows!! Uncanny!!
🤣🤣
You'll have to name your dinghy. I suggest "Ling".
🤔🤔🤔
Old cowboys always carry a pocket knife. If'n yu'd asked the cows, they'd a tol ya, lads.
I always carry a small pocket knife in my bag because you never know 😃
😷👍
😁✌👍
Sure those cows weren't bullocks?
Who knows, I'm no farmer Nick 🤔🤣
@@TheSailingBrothers bullocks are nosy b***ers and will gather round you, whereas cows tend to stay scattered around their field. Best avoided if they have calves. I'm not a farmer - I'm as brave as you two when I come across cows and horses 😄
I’m not wishing to be a moaner here but a word to the wise. The e scooters are classed as motorbikes here in the UK and as such you need a licence, insurance, helmets etc. If you are caught by the ‘Old Bill’ you may face fines and seizure of the scooters. This may or may not apply in other countries.
I don’t think they’re eScooters Brian! No batteries, throttles or brake levers. They’re folding ‘kick’ scooters… no restrictions…
They aren’t Escooters 👍🏻 just regular ones
You deserve a break you’ve done loads of stuff xx
We are on the biggest break of our lives now snowy owl
Cow was being a bit of an ass! 😝
🤣🤣
13,7k subscribers and 25 cows lol
Don't forget the cows 😂😂😂
💸👏👍👌😜
😁✌👍
We own same dinghy (& wheels) after 4yrs I can honestly say it is 'OK' we've had 4 punctures, it steers like a bitch, the seat & floor slates are low quality wood.
As for the wheels, they work, but any rough terrain will destroy them. I'll be replacing them with the inflatable type.
Thanks for the review, you get what you pay for. We paid £350 for it, hope it lasts a couple of years at least
You played for an audience of cows and got mood off the stage!!!
The were not impressed
You lads are spoiled rotten. There are decades left in that chain.
Thanks Hugh I think, we decided to buy a longer length of chain, and we promised our old chain to someone else
