This place is beautiful. I need to visit it.If not for insecurity, mistrust and more importantly the lack of adventure by most Nigerians. The 36 states plus FCT have so much to offer if they had better leaders and masses to push them.
I was there at the River Ethiope, Abraka resort back in 1997. The fast-flowing current of that river is brutally strong, and even as a tireless swimmer wearing fins on my feet, just treading water in one spot against the power of that river was exhausting. I learned many swimmers underestimate the current of River Ethiope, and some lose their lives after being swept away. From the river shore, I borrowed a canoe and paddled upstream a half mile to where there was a gate crossing the river. The river runs as deep as 20 feet, but the crystal clear water is swimming pool blue in color, while the sand of the river bed is snow white, making the fish stand out as though in an aquarium. A group of American scuba divers were exploring the river bed the day I was there. Watching this video clip is like a glimpse into a past life, for I will never travel recreationally ANYWHERE again on Nigerian roads due to the epidemic of highway ambush kidnapping now reported with alarming regularity.
