Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) insisted that there is no such thing as a successful sex-change operation when questioning witnesses at a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing on "gender-affirming care" for children on July 27. Her claim was backed up by detransitioner Chloe Cole, who pleaded with those present at the hearing: “Please let me be your final warning.”

Maybe the post was just meant to point out how annoying it is for people who want to prove a point misspell or write something very ungrammatical, which could potentially lessen their argument’s validity. It’s not fair, I know, but that’s how some would feel - and I can relate to this person pointing out the ungrammatical word used by the original post.

I use to hate the idea of being a girl or wearing girly clothes, and I use to imitate boys by wearing their clothes when no one was around. thank God I didn't fall in to the hands of those monsters or they would've ruined my life too. the thing is, even if she had gender dysphoria at the time, it doesn't mean it lasts for life (they have plenty of studies that proves the majority of people grow out of it) and no studies that prove these extreme interventions reduce suicide rates or are the correct action in any significant way.
When I was a child in the seventies, we started changing what was considered boys’ games and girls’ games. My parents told me I could play any sports I wanted, play with any toys I wanted. Suddenly the world went crazy and people started demanding that a girl who likes what is traditionally considered masculine should change her gender (and the same goes for boys who like traditionally feminine stuff). In the seventies and eighties we would just say that the stuff is what shouldn’t be considered feminine or masculine. Now certain agents try to force you to change to conform to the gender attributed to stuff. That is absolutely crazy, if not criminal.
Transgender ideology is the most reactionary crap imaginable. Some say it is of the political left, but this is most definitely NOT the case. I was part of the generation of women who formed the 'second wave' of feminism, and we thought that we had well and truly killed off the idea of so-called appropriate gender roles for women and men, but now in 2023 we find that the loathsome thing has reared its head again when young pubescent girls are told that any deviation from 'femininity' means that they are probably transgender and should have mutilating surgery and accept cross-sex hormones for life. I wish Chlole Cole and others like her all the very best for the rest of their lives. I commend her for her exceptional courage in speaking out.
As a young child (girl) was always a tom-boy and preferred playing the 'boy games'; no one seemed to care, they just accepted that I was a tom-boy. We didn't go insane back then.
The irony is that it just reaffirms traditional gender roles. It's the perception of gender that has been the problem. The things that you like or that speak to you don't define your sex, and today we're teaching kids that they do, that to like those things means that you have to change your identity. It's a step backwards.

There is no child transition. By law and medical policy (and ethics) in the States children cannot get gender affirming care surgery or penectomy, etc. Even IF they could, they need parental consent. Doctors can't do it without parental consent so the "harming children" for a safe medical treatment is disproven. The process of gender affirming care starts with therapists not surgeons. Also. If you ask any trans person what their sex is (if appropriate) you wouldn't get the opposite sex.
She doesn't speak the truth. The premise is misguided. No one is changing a child's sex. It's factually wrong. Children can't get surgery. It is load of logical fallacies (what type of doctor is this women? has she worked with transgender individuals?), generalization, and confirmation bias. She has some good points like it being new with children but the procedure isn't new. Doctors have a varied opinions about other medical treatments but not all medical treatments are political in nature. Can you imagine all the medical treatments that have saved lives-which I agree can be misleading-discontinued because some doctors and studies were against it? That's the whole point of why treatments work and don't work. Questioning. Studies. Trials. and Monitoring progress and success. The age of the patient doesn't make this any different.

Bone density and mental development reaches parity with the control group after blockers are discontinued and a new hormone system begins. Unfortunately, stating the truth won't yield results. The monsters perpetuating this behavior are very much aware of the truth, but it fulfills their fetishes to keep doing it.
It's unsurprising that a business degree and trial lawyer is not equipped with medical knowledge, but it is dishonest, and damaging, to present misinformation as truth. It doesn't take much time to do the appropriate research to combat the claims of Rep. Hageman.
Let's start with the obvious confusion Rep. Hageman seems to be operating under: the interchangeability of the terms sex and gender. In late 20th century understandings of transgender identities, terms like "sex-change," and "transsexual" were far more common, which undoubtedly leads to this confusion. However, as we've advanced our understanding of transgender identities, we've moved away from this language. The medical community acknowledges that sex is fixed (though it rejects the notion that sex is binary; genetic anomalies lead to a wide variance of sex development, and not always the two that Hageman presents). However, gender and sex are not interchangeable. Sex has to do with anatomy, biology, and genetics. Gender has to do with identity, culture, society, and psychology. Hageman falsely claims that "boys are boys and girls are girls." It's accurate to say that male is male and female is female, but false to equate female=girl/woman, and male=boy/man.
Let's tackle Rep. Hageman's next misleading statement: her attack on gender-affirming care. This is an interesting method of argument, commonly found in conservative opinion pages like foxnews. Rep. Hageman references gender-affirming care for minor children, a protected class, and then directs her ire about gender-affirming care toward care provided almost always for adults: the "permanent" alterations that Rep. Hageman refers to (commonly known as top or bottom surgery, and hormonal therapies) are rarely implemented in cases with minors, and only under extreme conditions. What "gender-affirming care" DOES signify for minors is usually therapy, changing names and pronouns, some cosmetic changes like binders or tucking underwear, and occasionally fully reversible puberty blockers. None of these are permanent alterations. Rep. Hageman also claims that they fundamentally change peoples' sexualities; I know of no evidence of that. Maybe she's referring to sex, rather than sexuality? But she began her testimony by arguing that sex was unchangeable?

So, yes, we do have direct, evidence-based research that is demonstrating the positive mental health outcomes of gender-affirming care.
Rep. Hageman claims a 100% failure rate for these procedures, which is a fascinatingly unscientific approach to them. The intention of these procedures is not to change sexes (again, she may be getting confused due to outdated language); the intention of gener-reassignment surgeries is to assist in gender transition. There is no intention to change the sex of an individual during these surgeries.
The witnesses statement during this portion is also misleading. While the witness points to suicidal ideation rates being higher among transgender folks, she doesn't pause to posit causality. Causes of transgender mental health issues usually have to do with social and family rejection of their gender identity, prejudicial behavior towards them due to their gender identity, and a feeling of hopelessness in the transphobic national environment that Rep. Hageman is trying to create. Solutions to these issues are not gender-repression any more than conversion therapy was the right approach to mental distress due to being gay.
The evidence we DO have for the successs of gender-affirming care is pretty clear. This information from VOA is pretty helpful: "In a review of 27 studies involving almost 8,000 teens and adults who had transgender surgeries, mostly in Europe, the U.S and Canada, 1% on average expressed regret. For some, regret was temporary, but a small number went on to have detransitioning or reversal surgeries, the 2021 review said." Detransition is unfortunate, but incredibly rare. Of those who detransition, a majority cite social, family, or economic pressures as the cause, and not transition-regret. So, while the experiences documented in this hearing of folks who have transition-regret is heartbreaking and difficult, it doesn't change the over 90% successs rate of gender-affirming care.
This took me about a half hour to research, and type out. My hope is that Rep. Hageman does a bit more rigorous research before the next time she makes false and misleading statements on a subject she seems to be quite confused about.
What we consider as Truths are just statements that agree with what we already believe. The fact is in every society throughout the world and throughout history there are many people who are transgender. In some countries and culture they are known as the third sex. And accepted in society as such.

As someone who dealt with gender dysphoria- a mental PROBLEM- I’m glad I wasn’t born around the time that transitioning was a thing because I’d massively regret it now. Transgenders HATE stories and ppl like me because I recognize it’s a irreversible mistake on my body!!

I used to work in the high-end Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Industry. And even assisted on several transgender surgeries but only on mature adults. Not only did it not seem to make these people "feel better" but the whole process is so long, depressing and massively expensive! It's approximately a ten year long ordeal, involving lots and lots of secondary and revision surgeries but the costs will ultimately run into 6 figures easily over time. I'm so glad I made the extremely hard choice to get out of that field after realizing how corrupted it had become. Now I can't even stand to be around so many narcissistic people and/or working on them. I hope and pray that there's a return to sanity, ethics and morality before Americans and this country are eternally duped and doomed!

As a mother, this pains me. You’re not born in the wrong body even if you feel that way. Hageman is trying to create. Solutions to these issues are not gender-repression any more than conversion therapy was the right approach to mental distress due to being gay.

This information from VOA is pretty helpful: "In a review of 27 studies involving almost 8,000 teens and adults who had transgender surgeries, mostly in Europe, the U.S and Canada, 1% on average expressed regret. For some, regret was temporary, but a small number went on to have detransitioning or reversal surgeries, the 2021 review said." Detransition is unfortunate, but incredibly rare. Of those who detransition, a majority cite social, family, or economic pressures as the cause, and not transition-regret. So, while the experiences documented in this hearing of folks who have transition-regret is heartbreaking and difficult, it doesn't change the over 90% successs rate of gender-affirming care.

But your implication that these are just done for greed and political ideology, and not because people have have severe gender dysphoria, makes myself, and others, ignore your words. I was in tears at the end at the trauma she has been put through and what she has to live with for the rest of her life.I am so thankful that she had the courage to come forwards and help prevent others from going down this perverted path egged on by drs ( money to be made) and various transgender groups who are putting huge pressure on unknowing individuals to take this path. I have already read many stories like Chloe’s.
It was and I’m interested enough now to look her up, refer others to her, and hear more about her story. I hope more people begin to wake up to how drastic and irreversible these approaches are, and done on people by Doctors at very emotionally intense times of their lives (pre puberty and puberty years). BUT - at the same time, they will haul in a gaggle of witnesses that are just as articulate and convincing that without the “transitional” surgery they wouldn’t be the well-adjusted and healthy people they are today.
