He is a founding member of VoicePlay. Started his own channel during 2020 lock down. He saves his acapella work for VoicePlay.
He is still with VoicePlay, but started his own solo channel as well a few years back. His solo work DOES have instrumentation, he usually uses plug-ins to generate the instruments, but he also occasionally accompanies himself on the piano. Most of the time, the musical background is fairly minimal, but on some tracks, you will hear them come out more prominently.
Geoff is still with VoicePlay, but he does have his own solo channel that he updates with new covers regularly too. ETA: Actually, in his solo videos Geoff does often use instruments; he says he can do whatever a capella work he wants with VoicePlay. All the vocal parts are him, however (and I suspect some of them would sound just fine even without the instruments he does use.)
Check out his cover of Unshaken from Red Dead Redemption. Voiceplay typically releases a new song once a month: Geoff does the same on his own channel. Busy man!
Geoff does use instruments in his solo work but not in his acapella group VoicePlay. In his solo work he produces his own backing tracks playing instruments and using plug ins and all of the harmonies are also him 😅
He does use instruments. He plays piano and uses a great guitar plug in. However, it’s with the group that they choose voices only. The VoicePlay members that have been around the longest all have side creative outlets/ventures. Layne the beatboxer and Tony a former member have Pattycake Studios which has its own channel. Eli does cgi backgrounds for some of their work, much of their lighting, and now will be joining in with Layne and Geoff with the arrangements. Pattycake studios produce a different view of Disney stories. If you’re old enough to remember fractured fairytales, this is an improved/adultish version of fairy tales.
Still in VoicePlay where he does Acapella work with VP. He does use instrumentation and plug-ins on his videos. Covid cancelled all their touring and he was bored and started his own channel. Geoff and Layne are the remaining original members from back in 1997. Check out all of Halo to learn a bit more about them after the Halo theme finishes. Scott Porter was the original beatboxer for the group and he narrates some of the story of the group touring and all.
Not only did he sing everything himself (and play the instruments), but he also first arranged this and then filmed with just his wife and him present. I'm pretty sure he didn't even use his VoicePlay co-member Eli for lighting (as he often does on more complexly lit videos) since he wasn't credited. They've not actually released a full Behind the Scenes on Patreon yet (they usually do) so I'm not sure how they did the filming. I'm presuming Kathy was behind the camera since we got some zooms, but I'm not positive of that. A lot of times he sets up multiple cameras to shoot while he performs. However, I cannot see how the zooms would work with that (unless it is somehow programed to be done with an attached computer? or it is something he has done in video editing)
I find it funny that you choose these particular two to watch. I kind of refer to "Don't Mess Around With Jim" as the Guys from "16 Tons" gone to the Dark Side and not just because of the shirt color. These two songs feel like a similar GROOVE with the Snaps, Claps and Stomps. I find it very difficult to listen to either without moving my shoulders to that groove.
Geoff has a very wide vocal range. One of my favorite singers. Voiceplay is great too.
Yes his name is Geoff (Jefff) Castellucci (Casteloochi). Like the group VoicePlay which he belongs to, he sings in many different genres. Always low, sometimes high as well. He creates all the arrangments and accompanies himself on piano or keyboard. VoicePlay put out a video once a month and Geoff is normally responsible for the arrangement and production of roughly half of those. In addition he does one video a month for his own low bass channel. A very busy man. With the helo of his wife Karhy he does the arrnanging, the filming, the editing of sound and film, for both his own the ones he does for VP. He also does all the cooking and baking at home!
Geoff started his solo channel when covid lockdown made Voiceplay stop touring.
