If I could do anything with that split- opening area between the upper decks, I'd build a multi-level restaurant/bar /clubhouse with seats and it would be glass all around, so that you could see out to the streets behind the park and of course, you would have a clear view of the whole park.

The moment i saw this video on your channel, I instantly thought about Tiger Stadium. The worst thing the Tigers ever did was abandoning their historic cathedral of baseball for an alright but non superior replacement in downtown that will ultimately have a shorter lifespan than its former glory on Turnbull and Michigan.

I agree with you 100%. Teams like Detroit, and the White Sox had an opportunity to be in the same realm as the Red Sox and Cubs by just upgrading and renovating their already beloved historical parks and instead they built glorified football stadiums where the upper decks are too high and too far from the action. If I'm in the upper deck I was to be looking right over the field. I want to be able to hear the pop of the glove. I don't want to require binoculars to see the game. Camden Yards was the last modern park to do a decent job at this. I was there recently, sat front row of the upper deck on the 1st base side and I could hear the pitchers glove when the catcher threw the ball back. Get the fans closer to the action and they will show up even if the team isn't in 1st place.

The downtown development authority, Fox Town, mayor Coleman Young all played a part in the Tigers leaving the corner of Michigan & Trumbull they all wanted to redevelop around this ballpark. Mayor Young wanted to build on the river, I wonder how that would of turned out. MLB was trending towards these futuristic ballparks like Jacob's Field in Cleveland SafeCo Field in Seattle.

LED field lightning was done for this season plus the changes in outfield dimensions. I was disappointed with how new wall was made and it also eliminated the out of town scoreboard that was part of the RCF wall. The last update to scoreboard was for the 2012 season - they still use static ads along with rotating tri-ads; entire structure should be latest LED technology. There’s potential for some great social spaces, but the organization fails to execute properly. The porch area above RF is ok, but a lot more could be done. There’s a spot in outfield that currently has some very dilapidated picnic tables just placed there. I noticed they’ve installed some green mesh screening to obscure view into park if you’re outside on the street. Sound system has never been updated. Lower bowl seating slope is too gradual unless you sit in Tigers Den or Terrace seats - top rows of lower bowl which offers some protection from overhang of suite level and there is extra leg room. Definitely sit on 1st base side to avoid being blasted by sun. Concessions have been kept up to date for the most part. Overall it’s a decent ballpark that isn’t living up to its potential even with its design flaws - especially lower bowl and a very small canopy over upper deck that maybe covers last 5 rows. Wish they’d hire a live organist for next season as the music selection is beyond obnoxious this season. Might be the worst of all the years going to games here!! Go Tigers 🐅🐅🐅

I remember going to Comerica when it opened and I thought, "We left Tiger Stadium for this?" It was exactly the same thoughts I had when they built Joe Louis Arena to replace the Olympia. (Yes, my wife and I do get the senior discount when we go out to eat 😊) I do like Ford Field and Little Caesars' Arena better than The Silver Dome and JLA. When the Pistons moved to The Palace, that was definitely an upgrade from Cobo. I am glad the Pistons are back downtown now. They got the site right with Comerica but were too focussed on showing abandoned skyskrapers in the background of the outfield than they were about the experience for ticket holders. If they tear down right and left fields and double deck them the stadium might be salvageable. Make it resemble Tiger Stadium and maybe we can correct this mistake of a stadium. Bingo night at the Moose tonight! Gotta run! 🤪

My bias will show here (diehard Tigers fan), Ginger, but you clearly haven't been to Comerica in a while or at all. If the buildings beyond the center field wall give the ballpark a natural and beautiful skyline to look at like at PNC Park (which is a gorgeous ballpark) then Comerica needs to get points for the same reason. Furthermore, if you want to reference other lists, I challenge you personally to list 15 parks better than it and list the reasons why. Stadiums and winning teams are often inseparable. Which is part of the problem. The Tigers have been dogshit for years. And now, I wouldn't put it as a top five park in the game, but it's way higher than most. If you think this is is a park thats #23 (or so) in the league I vehemently disagree with you. I've only been to 13 parks but I could name you 7 parks worse than Comerica and I haven't even been to half of the league's stadiums. People need to get to Comerica and chill on the slander.

Comerica Park is a nice ballpark as I have been to a few games there and it should never be compared to iconic Tiger Stadium as that was like a "baseball cathedral." One thing I would have kept would have been the original dimensions of the fences because it should be difficult to hit a home run in my opinion and today's best hitters would still be able to hit a homer at Comerica even with deeper dimensions.

Comerica is a nice ballpark in person. They original dimensions were ridiculously too big . Hitters hated it. Pitchers loved it. I think the Tigers failed to incorporate old tiger stadium in a way which fans wanted. The way they moved the fences in with the bullpen looks cheap and lazy for an MLB park. Fast forward to this year's new dimensions with moved in fences. as a tigers fan, I'm embarrassed. it looks unprofessional and I agree, little league-ish. The park is basic looking on TV. I have alwaysthought they should put an overhanging upper deck in right field. Some kind of built in restaurant or building that puts fans closer to the field. kinda like how San Diego has a building built in their stadium if that makes sense.

Great video about Comerica Park! Been looking forward to this video as a Tigers fan. I love your idea about an overhang in right field with a restaurant and few seats. Old Tiger Stadium had an overhang in right field which was cool and replicated in the Rangers Globe Life Stadium the outdoor version they left in 2019. And yea crazy hearing all these renovations from ballparks built around time Comerica Park opened yet we can’t even fix the fences that was a mistake in 2000. I DETEST the double wall, so cheap. That bullpen area in left should be a spot for fans, seats or an open space bar on the field. Also don’t know how they fix this, Comerica is an awful place to watch a game on a warm to hot sunny day or rain, almost all the seats are exposed to the elements except the last rows in the lower level which they turned into more expensive Tiger Den seating, funny they created that in the back row knowing that is only place fans are covered from the elements. I’m 41, I miss the old Tiger Stadium, wish they built a modernize version of Tiger Stadium, it’s what the Yankees did, Red Sox we’re going do before embracing Fenway. Regardless Comerica is unimpressive, the outfield has always bothered me with the bland seating, it does look like Chase Field or even Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, it’s built below the street level where no kidding a stray bullet could enter in there too. Unfortunately the current owner is Chris Ilitch who took over for his late father in 2017 and Chris has been very cheap from payroll, the Tigers USED spend, draw big crowds from 2006-2016, unfortunately Chris has treated the team as a second rate operation, with more focus on the Detroit Red Wings who they also own. I’ve kinda accepted that the Tigers are going always be at Comerica Park and unless the team is sold to a new owner that the ballpark will continue fall behind the times with lack of renovations. Again, fact they can’t even fix the fences! They literally had a double wall in left field from 2003-2004, in 2005 with the All-Star Game there is only reason they invested some money in moving the bullpens to left, still leaving the double wall but at least filling in that 25 foot gap, then filled in seats where the bullpen used be in right field. This past year is when they moved center and right center in and looks like went to Home Depot with the sloppy work done. So again if they can even fix the fences, outfield I’ll be surprised and happy, my expectations are very low for the Chris Ilitch owned team.

Chris Ilitch basically inherited all of this from his Father, who was a passionate fan. Chris is just the son who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and wants to hold on to the assets that he inherited from his father. Chris is a cheapskate and is only looking at what will not cost a lot of money, but will still keep fans from coming into the parks. Unfortunately we have a lot of fans in detroit with memories of gnats, and they will continue to give business to the Ilitches because they love their sports teams.

Comerica is an ok park. It has way too many gimmicks (ferris wheel and merry go round) and is way too exposed to the elements in most of the seating. The view is good pretty much no matter what seat you buy but even as an 8 year old kid I missed Tiger Stadium and still do today. If the team is ever sold I hope Comerica is renovated to look more like Tiger Stadium and maybe renamed Harwell Stadium (after Ernie Harwell) to pay respect to a beloved announcer of the past so we can get away from all these souless corporate names.

Also forgot mention, this is how lazy they are, they have decade bats that were installed along the concourse when the park opened in 2000, showing artifacts from each decade, well they’ve played two plus decades there and that thing hasn’t been updated once. Again hope I’m wrong, but with a 35 year lease, a frugal Chris Ilitch, I don’t see anything major happening here, can easily see Comerica sliding to the bottom tier of ballparks at end of the decade when the Rays, A’s, White Sox, Royals, DBacks all solve their stadium issues. Again I prefer a new park, retractable roof, day games are brutal in the summer there, April and May is crappy weather, unfortunately that will never happen long as Chris Ilitch owns the team.

I was pretty excited when the Tigers decided to build Comerica Park. I have went ahalf dozen times and my critique is this. The ball does not carry as well as old Tiger Stadium. Upper deck is too far from the field. We have lost many chances of free agents because of those deep and high fences. The only renovations that might help is an upper deck in right. A little wider roof and have a out side wall around instead of chain linked fence.

Went to a game here back in the summer of 2015. Sat in the upper deck along the 3rd base / LF area. It’s not a bad ballpark but it isn’t a top 10 or even top 15 ballpark. It has the amenities of any ballpark. The atmosphere was fine. It was a day game in the middle of the week, I think it was kids day out so the attendance looked like 25-30k. Out of 30 ballparks. It probably ranks between 17 to 22.

There are major cracks in the concrete, a few years ago there was reports of concrete falling from the stands above, the TVs in the concourse are old, and the walls look horrible like you said it’s a Little League look. If they could not cheap out on the walls and make it look a lot better, get new screens for the concourse, and fill in the cracks or maybe even lay down a whole lot of new concrete just those little things would make the park look better. The new lighting has modernized it a little bit but they need to do better. Because while Comerica is a nice park overall it’s starting to show its age quite a bit

Considering how bad the team has been the attendance has been just fine.
I’d be surprised that there. Isn’t a metric somewhere that ranks attendance ranked on performance of the team. I’d wager the Tigers rank highly.

You need to do a story on new Yankee stadium. in the outfield if you sit in right field they built a bar in the middle so you can’t see love you if there is a fly bottle left. The opposite is true the other way if you sit in left field you cannot see a flyball the right they put TVs up so you can see Yankee Stadium is a mausoleum it is not like the older Yankee Stadium.

Comerica sucks. The third deck is too far away from the field and 95 percent of the seats are in the sun for day games. Not like Detroit has San Francisco or San Diego summers. It often hot and humid from Memorial Day through mid September. I miss the shade Tiger Stadium had.

There is nothing wrong with Comerica, except maybe the name. ) But the stadium is fine. It doesnt need a major refurb. There is no money for a refurb and it wont happen. The Tigers only got a new stadium because the Lions wanted to move back to the city and the Ford family pushed hard for new stadiums. The Tigers piggy-backed on the Lions funding proposal.

    • @careyconley4690
      @careyconley4690 11 місяців тому +2

That is NOT what happened. The Tigers had been talking about a new stadium to replace Tiger Stadium as far back as the 1960s. This was the Tigers' decision and theirs alone. They weren't following anyone's lead. Comerica Park opened two years BEFORE Ford Field, so how could the Tigers have been following the Lions' lead? If anything, the Lions decided to move back downtown because of the Tigers.

You wouldn't know Comerica Park was 20 years old. It's held up really well. It's easy to knock it for people who haven't been there but trust me it's a really nice ball park much better than many new ones I have seen. Can it use an upgrade sure but I hope they don't mess with it to much I think it's fine the way it is and probably the last of it's kind. You wont see any ball parks that big ever again.

Attendance decline seems to be league wide. I don't like the rules of baseball changing. Example, a pitch clock. Baseball is a chess game on grass, and the real game takes time. Also, Tiger baseball was once on free tv. Not anymore,...and this is why the NFL is still strong, it is mainly on free tv. Tradition has gone out the window,..stadiums with corporate names, uniforms with sponsorship patches, I can't stand it. Prices for even a bottle of water is outrageous and not worth it. Tiger stadium was 87 years old, and hands down my favorite stadium of all time. Comerica Park? It is nice, but doesn't have me wanting to go to the games. I would rather watch Japanese baseball now.

I dont know why these mlb teams can't see the writing on the wall. Look at the most loved stadiums, what do they have in common? They are small and intimate ie Fenway. Sure people love fenway and wrigley cuz of the history but more so its the intimacy. Stop building these mile high football-like stadiums. I was at Nationals park recently and I was looking at their upper deck, its so high and so far from the field, nobody wants to sit there. You play 81 home games. Make a stadium with 25,000 seats where every seat feels close to the action and people will show up. These 40,000 seat stadiums are way too big. Upper decks should be much lower then football stadiums and much closer to the field. It seems like a no brainer to me.
