Every song on this album is a masterpiece. By the way, the spaceship guitars are carrying away different cities under domes from an exploding Earth. The spaceship carrying the city of Boston is in the foreground.
One of the best albums in history! Every song is great! Loved listening to this when it came out in 1975. I was in Jr high. I still listen to it today and never grow tired of it!!
A masterpiece of guitar arrangement, with that "dueling" guitars effect. BTW, that was Tom Scholz also on the organ solo; he's a classically-trained pianist, and only started playing guitar when he was in college. But, that is nothing compared to his keyboards solo on "Smokin'", which ought to be your next "Boston" reaction. 💯🔥🔥
Thank you for this. Brad Delp was an amazing vocalist and the solo at the end just crushes me knowing how everything worked out. My funeral song, along with Great Gig in the Sky. God bless, thank you.
If you think Tom Scholz's Hammond B3 solo was hot in Hitch A Ride, wait until you hear that screamin' B3 on Smokin' (the song prior, LP side 2, song 2) -- it's an all-out 5-alarm fire, and once you hear it you'll NEVER forget it.
Love Boston! Basement band they were so ahead 2 guys I can't remember their names. Record label told them they had to add members. They were ready to go. So gifted! Thanks for playing!😀🎶🎵🎸
Boston, Grand Funk, James Gang and many more came out of that time period. All guitar heavy and with great front men. This album is great from start to finish. It was so sad that Brad Delp passed. He was a staggering talent and had the voice to match the intensity and power that Thom's guitar work created. Wilburn this album never fails in putting a giant smile on my face. I remember being so stunned that there was just one guitarist doing all that was going on. Thanks man for all the work you do to put these classics back in front of old folk and to let the young whipper-snappers know they didn't invent music.
@@jackarmstrong1838 I know but they had the same flavor. I probably should've put Boston and Aerosmith together but I think of Aerosmith as more of a singer led where the others are more driven by the personalities of the guitarists.
Boston is my second favorite band of the era only behind the Eagles for me personally. The voice, Brad Delp, and the genius of Tom Sholz is hard to beat. I put Brad right up there with the other great frontmen of the era like Steve Perry and Freddie Mecury. Definitely underated.
Great reaction to one of Boston’s most underrated songs. The guitar solo at the end is fantastic !! if you ever get a chance to see Boston, you have to do it !! They are still so awesome !!!
You got it, bro’. That cover art pretty much sums up what happened in 1976. Boston came out of nowhere, they sounded fantastic, like nothing we ever heard before, the lead vocalist (Brad Delp), the lyrics, the balance of acoustics and electronics - and they pretty much blew the planet apart like it shows on the cover. Boston only released 2 albums in the late ‘70’s, and then an 8-year hiatus ensued. But, man… with with those 2 albums they came, they saw, and they conquered. And they’re still conquering people today. Very rare that all the songs on an album are keepers, Boston did it. Twice.
Your comment about the organ coming in hot reminded me of Sting talking about using jazz musicians on his first solo album and tour. He basically said that in jazz a soloist is often given 8 or 16 bars to start developing ideas and pathways, and they can run with an idea or jettison it and explore another idea, but he went on to say that for his project they had to burn from the very first note of the very first bar because it was rock.
The talent of this band was unbelievable, they could take a mellow ballad keep it mellow but, kick it with some hard rocking guitar and keyboards and blend it perfectly.
Like was commented below, the guitar player, Tom Scholz, is an electronics design engineer and inventor who designed his own guitar effects gear. Nobody made effect's pedals that sounded the way he wanted them to so he invented the gear to make the sound he wanted.
What is so great on all of these covers in the 70s was there were no computers! All of them were hand artist creations, some covers were worth more than the albums.
12 tracks Baby! As in 12 track tape recording in the 70's. Tom Scholz was the genius that was an electronics engineer and musician that was Boston. We were blown away as teenagers too, my Friend! :)
I've got another excellent song for you from this same album. It's the very last track, and it's called "Let me take you home tonight". Everyone overlooks it, but it's every bit as amazing as this one. Truth be told, there isn't a single bad song on this record.
Summer of '76, I graduated high school that spring, this album was released late summer, first time I ever heard it was in a bar in Breckenridge, MN, where the drinking age at the time was 18. The bar had a great sound system with tape players as music source. I was sitting in a booth with friends and having a beer, when the bartender put this album on the tape player. I got up from the booth bench, and walked over to directly in front of the two main speakers for the system, and after about 3 minutes of More Than a Feeling, I walked over to the bartender and yelled over the crowd and music noise; "What the hell is this and who the hell is it?!" It was a musical life-changer for me, just as earlier moments with bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple and The Doors had been.
...good story Kevin. I was 12. I heard it on a jukebox at an arcade while playing air hockey...hard to believe that Boston is not in the Rock nRoll H O F.
that entire album is great every song 1976 i believe i saw them live in 1978 they played the whole album, with a FN lazer light show that came from above the stage over the band and above the crowd cutting thru the smoke of the tokin, incredible show they sounded like 4 guitarists duelling at one another but in reality making beautiful music, smokin and let me take you home tonight my 2 favs
Seen Bostin back in 1977 , the singer hit all the high notes and they played so loud my ears rang for two days !!! Love Boston. Requesting you check out some bands with horn sections ,The IDES OF MARCH song VEHICLE with the great JIM PETERIK and BILL CHASE band song GET IT ON , Live!! thanks
The guitar sounds come from guitars plugged into a Leslie cabinet and amplifier for a Hammond organ it throws the sound out in a circular motion it creates a unique whining sound the amplifier is named after it's inventor Hammond Leslie
You can visit Rock and Roll Band and Don't Look Back and enjoy that too. Nice perspective Wilburn. Cool. Tom Scholz was a genius, Brad Delp one of the greatest rock voices ever. Masterpieces of uniqueness and class.
Of all the Boston reactions, everyone either talks about Tom Scholz, Brad Delp or the Hammond Solo... but why is everyone sleeping on Sib's chops!?!?! He is killin the beat and bringing it every 👏🏿 single 👏🏿 track...
Check out "cool the engines" But basically, throw a dart at a list of songs fron their first 2 albums, and you won't be disappointed with any that you hit!! Lol!
While their 2nd album isn't as good as the 1st, there are some great tunes there. "A Man I'll Never Be", "It's Easy", and "Feelin' Satisfied" are well worth a listen.
Every song on this album is a masterpiece. By the way, the spaceship guitars are carrying away different cities under domes from an exploding Earth. The spaceship carrying the city of Boston is in the foreground.
We were having these same conversations about Boston 45 years ago! Time sure does fly!
Here we go again. This young man knows music!
Can’t go wrong with Boston off the Self-Titled debut album.
One of the best albums in history! Every song is great! Loved listening to this when it came out in 1975. I was in Jr high. I still listen to it today and never grow tired of it!!

Boston Boston is one of the greatest albums, from front to back, of all time.
Having a guitarist like Tom Scholz who can create his own effects was their calling card. They were making sounds that we all coveted.
Smokin' should be the next one on your Boston to do list of fantastic songs.
Probably one of the best freshman albums that has stayed popular for decades. Smokin' next Chod.🚬🚬
My wife's favorite group. This song/ LP came out her HS graduation year. Pretty much a perfect LP! Chod, thanks for this rockin' Sunday song!
My favorite song from this album, and that is saying something!!
Great reaction!!!! Everything you want in a song, plus hand claps!!
Thank you for this. Brad Delp was an amazing vocalist and the solo at the end just crushes me knowing how everything worked out. My funeral song, along with Great Gig in the Sky. God bless, thank you.
Since you shared, my funeral song is "Old and Wise" by the Alan Parsons Project, sung by Colin Blunstone of the Zombies.
Every time I hear Boston it makes me smile! This album is truly one of the best ever made.
That’s my favorite song by Boston. Beautiful guitar work and some catchy drum fills.
The outro guitar solos here are freaking sublime
Every song from debut album.. tops of all time!!
Some very nicely-crafted guitar leads when Tom Scholz duels with himself at the end of the song
Boston is one of a kind!! I was lucky enough to be 15yrs old when their album came out! Played them all summer long ♥️😁
Same here and the same age too!
💥♥️🙋♀️
@@marymarin3277 I see these Marys- and rockin' away!🎶🎵🎶🎵

Grand Funk and James Gang were late 1960's-early 1970's. Boston was several years later.
@@jackarmstrong1838 I know but they had the same flavor. I probably should've put Boston and Aerosmith together but I think of Aerosmith as more of a singer led where the others are more driven by the personalities of the guitarists.
I love the call-and-response of the guitar solo phrases in the outro
You gotta play “SMOKIN” by Boston!👍👍💣💣🥁🥁
Smokin is there kick ass tune
So big they were in 1978 when I saw them in Anaheim, they headlined over Black Sabbath and Van Halen. What a polished sound they had.
Love this whole album! Played it constantly when I got it!
Boston is my second favorite band of the era only behind the Eagles for me personally. The voice, Brad Delp, and the genius of Tom Sholz is hard to beat. I put Brad right up there with the other great frontmen of the era like Steve Perry and Freddie Mecury. Definitely underated.
greatest outro ever
The guitar solo on this track is an all time great arrangement.

My #1 🎸 solo.

I can listen to Hitch a Ride and the rest of the first Boston album over and over! 46 years after it's release, timeless and awesome as it was in 76!!
The best debut album of all time!
Boston is one of those great bands that if you weren't living in the late 60s and 70s you wouldn't know or remember
I think this might be their best song.
I think I read that Scholz got that guitar tone by running the signal through a theremin.
Like was commented below, the guitar player, Tom Scholz, is an electronics design engineer and inventor who designed his own guitar effects gear. Nobody made effect's pedals that sounded the way he wanted them to so he invented the gear to make the sound he wanted.
THE 1ST ALBUM WAS A CLASSIC ... AND BOSTONS ... 'F.U.' TO THE RECORD COMPANY WAS HUGE BALLS!
2nd album was also excellent, 3rd Stage came 10 years later, but also an excellent album
The iconic album cover. The incredible songs. It might be the best debut album in history.
That smile says it all.
What is so great on all of these covers in the 70s was there were no computers! All of them were hand artist creations, some covers were worth more than the albums.

The distinctive Boston guitar sound!
He nailed it the cover comes to life with the music

This 8 Track was one of many my uncle used to introduce me to this Era of music. Classic!
My first album was Boston!! It changed my World!!!
Classic album-epic from start to finish!!
one of my top 3 guitar solos of all tiime.

So true, thank you.
Tremendous song all around
I had the great pleasure to see these guys in a club on The Ohio State University Campus in 76 or 77 an I believe it was pushing this LP
Bought this album when it came out. Then CD. awesome debut.
I agree with you about the sounds! This album just keeps on giving!
Saw them in the 80s, they had a triple organ setup with the pipes like phantom of the opera going on, bad ass
The guitar sounds come from guitars plugged into a Leslie cabinet and amplifier for a Hammond organ it throws the sound out in a circular motion it creates a unique whining sound the amplifier is named after it's inventor Hammond Leslie
The largest selling debut album of all time up to that time ('76). 17 million+.
Love this song🙋🏻♀️
Violent Femmes Blister in the sun
A part of the sound track of my high school days. :)
Welcome to my teen years

Such a good album. I know what you mean about the cover, I've always considered them as "Space Rock" myself...
SMOKIN' just entered the chat...
Woooooo!
RIP Brad Delp
Love that Pick Drag!
Best album debut EVER NOT A BAD SONG ON IT🤘👍🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Tom Scholz plays bass, keyboards and ALL guitars. Brad Delp does ALL vocals. Written by Tom Scholz.
I'm here to remind you not to take too much time between Boston songs
Welcome to big rock music...
I am new, you were recommended by Justin from JustJP. I appreciate that you do not pause.
Check out "cool the engines" But basically, throw a dart at a list of songs fron their first 2 albums, and you won't be disappointed with any that you hit!! Lol!
You ever see the space ships on their logo are also guitars?
Lol posted that before I finished watching 😂
Zeppelin, Beatles, Bad Co, Boston, Stones, Aerosmith.

Bostons strongest song
More handclaps!
While their 2nd album isn't as good as the 1st, there are some great tunes there. "A Man I'll Never Be", "It's Easy", and "Feelin' Satisfied" are well worth a listen.
Chod youve kinda forgot CCR too. Keep On Chooglin will remind ya what youve missed.
Try Hollyanne off of Third Stage. Brad Delp at his best. A beautiful song.

Agreed. Also The Spencer Davis Group, of course, with little Stevie Winwood.
I've been trying to suppress Chod with my white privilege but he is too determined to succeed!
